## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — terrible

*2026-07-10*

WHY CANT I DELETE IT

### 1/5 — Can’t remove

*2026-06-09*

I downloaded it thinking it could help but once I saw you cannot have a free trial and it is paid, I tried deleting the app but it cannot! It does not even show that option! I found a different app that works well and at least with that one it was a one time payment.

### 1/5 — Buggy app

*2026-05-22*

Though the concept is good, the execution is poor. It’s incredibly buggy and difficult to deactivate the blockers and additional features are very crude.

### 1/5 — Horrible app

*2026-04-22*

I got this and it does not block well and I paid for it and tried to get a refund and I’ve had no luck don’t waist your time with this it said it was free and still made me pay

### 1/5 — Why do I need to pay?

*2026-04-05*

It’s stupid how they advertise it’s free then make you pay a subscription at the end of the quiz.

**Developer response:** Thanks for your feedback.

This isn’t a free app, and that’s intentional. We require a subscription because we’ve found that putting real commitment behind the decision significantly increases the chances of actually quitting.

The goal isn’t just to provide information—it’s to help people follow through and stay consistent, which is why the full program is behind a paywall.

We understand that won’t be for everyone, but for many users, having skin in the game makes a real difference.

### 1/5 — Do not pay for this

*2026-01-20*

Worst app I’ve ever paid for. Does not offer anything special, and freezes every time I open. I would like a refund.

**Developer response:** Sorry about the experience — the app definitely shouldn’t be freezing. We recently released version 2.0 with stability improvements, so updating may resolve the issue. Since purchases on iOS are handled by Apple, refund requests can be submitted through your Apple purchase history.

### 1/5 — Not Free

*2025-12-27*

Acts like it’s free with “premium.” In reality, once you finish taking the test, right before it gives any results or anything, you are forced to make payments or quit. I’m not against a service like this being a paid sub, but then advertise it as such? Instead, you tricked me into thinking it was free. Uninstalled immediately.

**Developer response:** Sorry for the confusion. The onboarding helps tailor the app to your goals, and the subscription supports the tools and ongoing development behind the app. We appreciate the feedback and will work on making the pricing clearer earlier in the experience.

### 1/5 — Just a timer app, don’t pay

*2025-09-12*

It’s hard to justify paying ¥1,500 for a timer app when its only real feature is some goofy visuals. The payment request feels misleading: the app presents itself as offering multiple tools to help stop addiction, but once you try to proceed, it asks for money — and in reality, all it does is record how long we’ve gone without the behavior we’re trying to avoid.
It preys on people’s vulnerabilities, and the creator should be ashamed for charging such a high price with a dishonest app description and payment setup.

**Developer response:** Thank you for your feedback. We understand your concern, the app is still very new, and we’re actively working on adding the deeper tools and resources we promised. A big update is coming soon with more educational content, analytics, exercises, and challenges designed to truly support people in breaking habits.

### 2/5 — Block doesn’t work

*2026-04-08*

It gives you a cool down when you want to unblock something and when the time expires it. More often than not just resets and you don’t have access to what you unblocked.

### 2/5 — This is not *the* cold turkey app

*2026-04-05*

I knew from the questions it was asking that this felt like many of the … not quite scam but…dodgy apps that I’ve been advertised about curing adhd etc. it went through the same kinds of (v personal) questions, then gives a date for when I’d quit, which already seems sketchy. When I saw that it spelled the word “discreet” wrong I was convinced…looked it up and yeah the one here is not the one I’m looking for.

Maybe this one is good I have no idea, but others should recognize that this one in the App Store isn’t the original.

**Developer response:** Thanks for your feedback.

We’re not affiliated with any other app you may be referring to. “Cold turkey” is a general term for quitting a habit immediately, which is exactly what our app is designed to support.

The questions you mention are part of building a personalized plan, including estimating a quit timeline based on your inputs. We understand this can feel unusual, but it’s meant to guide—not guarantee—your progress.

We’ll also fix the spelling issue you pointed out.

If you’re open to it, we’d encourage you to try the app before judging—it’s built to genuinely help people quit habits and build better routines.

## Most praised reviews (4 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Nice

*2026-08-05*

Nice

### 5/5 — Great start

*2026-08-03*

Needed this app to jump start my recovery it’s a tough journey but knowing I have support helps a lot

### 5/5 — Great app if you don’t expect the world from it

*2025-12-07*

I love this app as a segment of my recovery journey. It seems to me to be built on three primary features: check-ins, journaling, and of course, Turkey.

I absolutely love that this app basically doesn’t care if you do or don’t check in. Sure, it keeps track of stats and such, but I’ve never been bugged, pressured, or judged if I miss a check-in. It’s just picks up from there and lets you keep rolling on.

The journal feature is always available. Again, I’ve never been bugged, pressured, or judged if I don’t journal, but the option to journal is always there if I need it or want it. It’s really helped to write down my thoughts at different times.

Turkey is my favorite. He (or she) reflects the stage I’m in on my journey. During my longest streak, Turkey went from being drug out and run down to happy and reading a book instead of the negative habits that marked the beginning of my journey. The illustrations of Turkey act as a mirror to my own behavior and a window into how my behavior affects myself and others. I love seeing Turkey on my Home Screen and on the app.

Lastly, it’s informed, but not clinical! Language typically considered crass is not a taboo here, it’s just normal. And being able to use common vernacular in circumstances has helped normalize or weaken the taboo of my behavior, which has helped me face it head on.

I use this app in conjunction with community, personal connection, exercise, the support of my wife, and Brainbuddy, on top of about 8 years of on-and-off recovery work. The simplicity of using Cold Turkey and Brainbuddy for daily check-ins and brain rewiring has made my latest attempt a recovery and sobriety more successful than ever.

This app won’t kure your addiction, but it is a great asset to add to a recovery framework. I pay for both this app and Brainbuddy, and using them simultaneously in combination with my existing framework has been ridiculously helpful. Hope you all love it, too.

### 4/5 — Block apps while blockers on

*2026-06-25*

While using this app I realized I could use it to block other problematic apps but I have to wait an hour to block more apps.
