## What is Colibri Social?

Colibri is a next-generation social chat app, built on the AT Protocol (also called ATproto).

You sign in with your existing Atmosphere identity, and your messages, images, and identity stay in your own PDS (Personal Data Server). You own them, and they travel with you across the network instead of being locked inside our servers. Communities work the same way: each one is its own repository on the network, so a community’s data isn’t trapped in any single app either.

Chat with friends, get on voice and video calls, and let your community spread its wings.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 0.5.1 — 2026-08-31

- Better emoji search: Searching the emoji picker now ranks by relevance instead of category order
- Safer, better links: Pasting a link while text is selected now wraps it into a markdown link. A link whose visible text claims one site while pointing at another shows as plain text instead, and opening a link that leaves Colibri asks first and shows the full address. You can turn that confirmation off in Settings > Preferences.
- Lists that nest: Indented list items now render nested, Tab and Shift+Tab move an item in and out a level, and each level numbers on its own.
- Noise, be suppressed!: Noise suppression is now a single switch instead of seven presets, with a separate Voice Gate switch that mutes you between sentences. This concludes the previous experiment.
- Code blocks stay code: Shortcodes like :joy: and pasted emoji stay literal inside code, suggestion popups no longer open there, list markers stop continuing, and Enter adds a line instead of sending while you write a fenced block.

### 0.4.0 — 2026-08-21

- Oh Sheet, Roles!: The member menu now has a single Roles row that opens a dedicated picker with a checkbox per role.
- Clearer Channel Mentions: When a community has two channels with the same name, the mention picker and the channel chips in messages now show the category in front of the name, so you can tell which one you are picking and which one was linked.
- See Who Reacted: Reactions now open a dedicated viewer that lists everyone who reacted, with a tab per emoji. Reach it from "View Reactions" in the message menu, or by long-pressing a reaction on mobile.
- Mentions find accented names: Typing @Jose now finds José, and the mention picker puts whoever spoke most recently at the top.
- Add Captions in Post: You can now edit a message that only contains an image, video or file to add text to it.
- Straight back to sign-in: When your session runs out you now land on the sign-in screen right away, instead of on a screen asking you to press a button first.
- Baby, GIF me one more time: Some GIF links showed a frozen frame or a broken box instead of playing. Previews now understand the sites that publish their animation as a clip!
- Composer Stays With Its Channel: Starting a reply or attaching files in one channel no longer follows you into the next one.
- One toast per message: New message toasts no longer appear two or three times at once after you switch back to the app. Unread ping badges and the ping sound stop double-counting the same message too.

### 0.3.0 — 2026-08-15

- Appearance can follow your system: The experimental Appearance setting now lists System alongside Dark and Light.
- Turn off link previews: Hide the preview card on any link you post, one at a time or all of them, and change your mind later. Moderators can hide previews too, and community owners can switch them off per community or per channel.
- Quick reactions learn your favourites: Your most-used emoji now sit in the message action bar on desktop and in the long-press drawer on touch.
- Settings moved next to your profile: The gear now lives beside your avatar at the bottom of the channel list, and that whole status bar is a bit more compact.
- Right-click a link, get link actions: Right-click or long-press a link to open or copy it, without hunting for the message menu or selecting the text by hand.
- Moderation across AppViews: You can now moderate and manage communities hosted on a different AppView than the one you signed in to. This needs presence sharing on, which is what tells other AppViews yours is allowed to act for you.
- Attachments actually download: Text files, documents and images now save to your device under their original filename instead of opening in a browser tab.
- Jump to latest always finds you: The button now appears whenever you are scrolled away from the newest message, including when a channel opens on an older message from an unread marker or a notification.
- Channels stay pinned to the bottom: Sending a message now reliably scrolls you to it, and the list keeps its place as the chat input grows and the keyboard opens.
- Tidier link previews: Links that only carry a small image now show it as a thumbnail next to the title, and large previews no longer tower over the message.
- Communities open instantly: Switching into a community you have already visited no longer replays the loading screen, and a dropped connection keeps you where you are instead of dumping you on an error screen.
- Scrolling up through history stays put: Older messages now load in directly above the oldest one you have, with no jump and no runaway loading when you reach the top of a channel.
- Smoother channel swipes: Swiping between the channel list, a channel and the member list should be less laggy.
