Die Stimmerkennung ist wirklich unterirdisch. Ich kriege in Norddeutschland ständig Vögel angezeigt die es hier absolut nicht geben kann. Von Zitronenstelze über Wachtel bis hin zum buschrohrsänger. Auch noch andere Arten sind dabei die es hier nun wirklich nicht gibt. Für solch einen Mist soll ich dann auch noch Abo bezahlen. Sorry das geht gar nicht. ### 4/5 — Ein großartige lehrreich App mit drei pejorativen Vogelnamen *2026-04-05* Ich finde es ist eine super schöne App von der ich sehr viel gelernt habe. Ich finde nur das pejorative beziehungsweise rassistische Vogelnamen in einer App mit wissenschaftlichem Anspruch nichts zu suchen haben! Bei Fulica americana, bei Ixobrychus exilis und bei Saxicola caprata sind die Trivialnamen definitiv rassistisch auch wenn es sicherlich nicht böse gemeint ist. Hoffentlich ändert ihr das zukünftig und bleibt progressiv. Dankeschön für eure wertvolle Vogelapp! ### 3/5 — A Few Things *2026-03-23, version 3.2.3* I really want to love this app, but it has a few small annoyances. I have the Book (2 Edn), but wanted a more portable version. The legend for the Distribution Maps is too small for me WITH my reading glasses on - I needed to refer to the book. For some reason the app lacks the abundance information of the book - everything else is included as far as I can tell. Finally, I purchased the UK specific distribution as an IAP, but have no idea what they mean - there is no guidance or legend. ### 4/5 — Identify Assist update *2025-08-20, version 3.1* Thank you for your response App Developer. In following your advice I found and fixed the problem I described below. I’d subscribed on my iPad Mini 5 and via iCloud it also downloaded onto my iPhone SE2. However only Photo ID downloaded NOT Audio ID. It was the iPhone I was trialling it on so that’s why it didn’t work. Yesterday I tried it on fledgling Goldfinch calls with some background House Sparrow calls and the Audio ID worked correctly (as did the free Merlin app). The advantage of using this app is that mobile data doesn’t need to be on which is useful when there is no signal (which there often isn’t in many rural locations). On the other hand Merlin is free. I’ll keep trialling Audio ID on this app for the remainder of the year I’ve already paid for and have upgraded my review to a cautious 4 stars. It would have been 3 stars but the extra one is for the helpful Developer response to my initial review in the next paragraph. Thank you Collins Bird App! I love this app and have used it successfully over many years, so this review is specifically about the subscription service Identify Assist and specifically the identification of bird sounds in the field. It simply doesn’t work. I tried it with known calls and it failed, whereas the free Merlin app correctly identified them instantly. The tests were on Meadow Pipit and Chiffchaff calls (NOT songs). Sorry Collins but I cannot recommend this feature and have cancelled my subscription (unfortunately just after my free trial period ran out!!). ### 4/5 — nicht alles im Preis inbegriffen *2025-04-14* trotz des hohen Anschaffungspreises muss man leider noch viele In-App-Käufe tätigen, um alles freizuschalten abgesehen davon ist der Svennson natürlich das beste Nachschlagewerk **Developer response:** Vielen Dank für Ihr Feedback. The previous version was much clearer. Disappointed. ### 2/5 — Frechheit! *2023-12-04* Ich nutze die App ebenfalls seit Jahren, war auch mit dem letzten Update im Herbst zufrieden. Seit einigen Tagen werden bei Anwendung nur unscharfe Verbeitungskarten und Plates in der Übersicht gezeigt. Bei Anklicken zB der Rohrdommel stürzt die App ab. Zahlreiche neue Artnamen ohne hinterlegte Bilder etc. erscheinen mit dem Hinweis, dass ich einfach die neue (kostenpflichtige!) Version laden soll. Ohne meine Zustimmung wurde also meine laufende Version geändert- zum Schlechteren! Die Kommentare der anderen Nutzer/innen lassen nicht vermuten, dass die Probleme mit der Bezahlung von 9,99€ behoben sind- und lassen mich ratlos zurück… ### 2/5 — Version 2 ratée *2023-10-18* Pourquoi sortir une version 2 si c’est pour dégrader ce magnifique outil de référence ? - Sur iPhone, en comparant les illustrations avant et après la mise à jour, les illustrations ne peuvent plus être agrandies, qu’à la moitié de celles de la version 1. Donc sur le terrain, avec un mauvais éclairage ou en plein soleil, vous verrez 2 fois moins bien les détails qui sont parfois essentiels pour différencier deux oiseaux. - Dans la liste « statut des oiseaux en France métropolitaine », les descriptions des statuts N3 et N4 semblent avoir été inversées. - Et pour le meilleur de la mise à jour, le nouvel index des espèces. Si l’on fait défiler la liste alphabétique, il faut chercher le merle à la lettre N, la pie à la lettre B, le pinson et le goéland à la lettre A et ainsi de suite pour tous les oiseaux. Car le merle est Noir, la pie est Bavarde, le pinson est des Arbres, le goéland est Argenté etc. - La nouvelle icône représente un oiseau avec du gris foncé et la tête noire. Sur un fond noir, c’est peu lisible (je sais, on peut remettre l’ancienne en passant par les réglages, mais pourquoi cela ?). Loons instead of divers ### 1/5 — A waste of money *2024-02-29, version 2.1.4* I thought this app would be handy as I frequently forget to carry a bird book and it saves the extra weight in my bag. However I have been disappointed by a number of issues. To start with despite having paid for the app, many of the features are only available if you make further in app purchases. Secondly there seems to be no recognition of mistypes which may be something as simple as assuming a birds name consists of 2 words when in reality they are linked as one. Often when you have birding and have cold hands typos occur-some suggestions would help! My final complaint is the most frustrating- missing birds! This has been an issue on multiple occasions-today it was Common Redpoll that I found was not included-or Lesser Redpoll-these are in even my slimline basic bird guide! I have also found some birds are listed without pictures E.g Ross’ Goose-there is a generic silhouette of a swallow-this is really infuriating when I am expecting it to be useful in the field. Overall I am not sure how a big name such as Collins is getting away with producing such a bad app! ### 1/5 — Résolution des images de pire en pire *2023-11-22* Évidemment que l'application est bien, je l'utilise depuis des années, mais la résolution des images est de plus en plus faible, au fur et à mesure des mises à jour. Désormais lorsque l'on zoome sur n'importe quel oiseau, il est impossible de l'avoir en grand sans qu'il ne soit à moitié flou tellement la résolution est faible. Le problème existe surtout sur iPhone en mode portrait. Je l'ai déjà signalé par mail il y a au moins six mois. Alors procurez-vous un iPhone, constatez que la résolution est vraiment riquiqui en mode portrait, et réglez le problème. Everything I do produces a prompt to buy more. Please restore what I purchased. ### 1/5 — Horrible V3 update *2023-09-18, version 2.0.6* The developpera have turned a great app to an usable app. The update to V3 is a nightmare - paid for V2, paid for the V3 update but now I’m back to using the book as this update is unusable. ### 1/5 — Text search *2023-08-15, version 2.0.5* Only purchased the old version 4 months ago and now had to pay an extra £7.99 The text search doesn’t work correctly eg search for owl and all instances of owl within the text appear eg Wild fOWL Try Barn Owl and BARNacle Goose appears!! ### 1/5 — Search feature not working *2023-08-13, version 2.0.4* After paying an extortionate sum to get the latest update, the search feature does not work. After the search result returns, I can’t click through to a species description. Update: asked for and got a refund only to find that the update also totally screwed the 2nd edition. Previously it was great. Now the search is terrible, e.g. searching for “owl” returns first a Swan ?!? and other water fowl. Can’t click through from search result. Previously the species comparison was excellent, now it is hidden and when you tap “show similar” the comparison no longer includes the species of interest. I used the previous version of the 2nd edition constantly in the field, it was very helpful. PLEASE CAN I HAVE IT BACK! ### 1/5 — Update has stopped app functioning *2023-08-08, version 2.0.3* Updatjng to the new Collins edition on an iPhone 12 Pro with the latest iOS, has meant the app no longer works correctly. Incontournable, ergonomique, précise et très pratique. Pour tous les amoureux de nos amis les oiseaux, foncez. Pour une quarantaine d’euros, vous aurez l’application, les cartes supplémentaires et l’identification à partir d’enregistrements audios ou de photos. Sans parler de la bibliothèque de vidéos… Un immense merci à cette formidable équipe qui nous permet de mieux connaître nos compagnons ailés ! ### 5/5 — Tolle und praktisch App *2026-06-23* Finde die App gut und nutze sie ausgiebig. Hilfreich wären noch Infos, was die einzelnen Arten essen. Aber eine App kann nie perfekt sein. Praktisch finde ich, dass man die Artnamen in unterschiedlichen Sprachen aktivieren kann. Hilfreich im Ausland. Noch hilfreicher wäre da die Möglichkeit den lateinischen Namen, und die Namen in anderer Sprache kopieren zu können. Um unkompliziert in Foren oder im Internet nach Informationen zu suchen. Z.B. auf Xeno ### 5/5 — Excellent *2025-08-03, version 3.1* I honestly don’t know what some people expect. This guide has an amazing amount of detailed information about every bird you’re likely to see in the whole of Europe, and it’s easy to navigate through. Highly recommended. ### 5/5 — Wie das Buch, jedoch mit weiteren Features *2025-05-01* Eine hervorragende App, äußerst kompakt im Feld und mit dem Mehrwert der Vogelstimmen im Vergleich zum Buch. Mittlerweile gab es, seit ich sie nutze, viele Aktualisierungen, Bearbeitungen und Fehlerbehebungen, so dass die App mittlerweile auch stabil läuft. Einziger Kritikpunkt wäre noch, dass Neuerungen bei der Taxonomie bei einigen Arten noch nicht übernommen wurden (Bsp.: Aquila pomarina - mittlerweile meist als Clanga pomarina bezeichnet). **Developer response:** Wir hoffen, dass Ihre Abstürze jetzt behoben sind. Despite having to pay a bit extra for videos and extra distribution/present/breeding it makes it much more useful as the data is far more recent and one doesn’t need to go fishing for it through the BTO and other place. If just starting out birding and wanting to find your feet, this might be a bit pricy however I would highly recommend as one of the apps to have For birders. ### 5/5 — Application de référence *2025-02-23* Application de référence qui vaut son prix. Best for Europe *2024-05-20, version 2.1.8* Of the 26 birding apps I have this is one of the best. It’s the most comprehensive and easy to use guide for Europe. The overview lets me home in on the bird group. Then it gets progressively more detailed. The species descriptions are good for field identification, the selection of audio recordings is excellent, the comparison with similar species handy and the range maps very informative. The illustrations are excellent with sufficient coverage of plumage by sex, age and morphs although thorough treatment is beyond the purpose of this field guide. The app works equally well on my iPhone and iPad. Thank you for such an excellent guide. ### 5/5 — Le top est de retour *2024-04-15* Le guide de référence. Appli un temps plombée par une MAJ foireuse, je constate qu’après de nombreux mois d’errance, l’appli a retrouvé son fonctionnement initial. Une qualité au niveau du guide papier. Bref une référence.
