There are however some serious omissions. Thank God for other Apps like Reverse Context. I expected better from Collins, given the price point of this App it is very disappointing ### 4/5 — Why I need to pay twice for ipad and iphone *2019-10-17, version 2.8* I bought this app few year ago via ipad and just now when i download the app on my iphone. A suggestion: please add the option to write a word instead of just typing. However, since the last update, opening the app causes any audio currently being played to stop. This is very frustrating and causes me to use other apps instead. I contacted their support over half a year ago and there have been no updates or fixes since then. ### 4/5 — Essential app *2016-12-25* Good use of words in everyday phrases. Verb tables are invaluable. ### 2/5 — Not scholarly *2016-12-06, version 2.7* This dictionary has the advantage of providing verb conjugations, which is helpful for me, who only have a reading knowledge of German. That, however, is not really worth forking over $25. This dictionary fails to provide the kind of diversity of definitions available on a lot of free applications and on free websites. I use Linguee's application in tandem with this application, but Linguee does not provide conjugations or less common noun inflections. You can download multiple language dictionaries through the Linguee app, so I use it for French and Italian as well. For online access, LEO.org and Linguee's website are the most helpful if your goal is to decipher German academic prose. ### 4/5 — My go to app for German *2016-10-09* I do come across words that aren't in this dictionary, but the majority are there and the verb conjugation is great ### 4/5 — First-rate! *2016-08-14* Very pleased with this dictionary. I really like the multiple examples of the word's usages under many entries. It is also exhaustive enough for me (in case I cross paths with an old or rare word that isn't in here, I have a free dic with a huge number of entries but no usage examples). The verb conjugations are very comprehensive and useful, and the whole design is clean and satisfactory. It looks like the developer rushed to release the product without any quality control. The pronunciation is terrible; it sounds like computerized sounds rather than a human speaking. Most words are chopped or spoken robotically too fast, and a very large percentage of the words are spelled rather than spoken. For example, when playing the word “ich”, the app spells “i, c, h” instead of speaking/pronouncing the word. I started creating a list with these instances but stopped because they were too many. The French dictionary was much better, but I do not recomend the German version. I’ll try getting a refund. ### 1/5 — necer failed to annoy users *2016-09-16, version 2.7* It creates chaotic scene in each update. Last version let you choose the language (even if you only ordered German-English, the menu still pop-up and let you choose "German-English dictionary", and it took 9months+ to fix it). Rip Off. ### 1/5 — Missing key words and phrases *2016-02-19, version 2.6* The gaps ought to be covered. ### 1/5 — Don't Buy German Dictionary *2015-09-06* Perhaps I don't know how to use the dictionary, but in German, knowing the gender of a noun is absolutely essential to everything else. But, eg look up "haus" and it gives NO gender. The same for many other words. How can Collins say they understand about languages when they miss out this fundamental information?? Apologies to Collins if I am not using the dictionary correctly, but I cannot see this gender information. So don't buy this expensive, useless dictionary. ### 1/5 — Good product, turned bad. *2014-11-21, version 2.4.2* It saddens me to write badly about this dictionary. It was good, it׳s now nearly useless. No browsing. No fuzzy search. No wild card search. None of the features that used to be so good. Please restore these immediately. Without them this product is useless. ### 1/5 — Completely broken *2013-10-20, version 2.4.1* The new iOS7 update makes all three of my Collins dictionaries crash immediately on launch. As another reviewer noted 6 years ago, it is sometimes difficult to move from verbs back to the main dictionary. Frustrating - and it doesn’t seem to be very smart. I installed this new app recently because the one I purchased in 2013 froze on my new iPhone. In hindsight I'm very happy with this purchase. The app runs smoothly (using latest OS on a 6s Plus) and is very slick. It includes everything one needs when learning a new word in German: meaning, conjugation, whether the verb is used with akkusativ or Dativ, as well as examples.
