Imagine my surprise to find after downloading an already extremely outdated app with ‘No Details Provided’ Is my data safe? Is my privacy protected?) and banner ads, that you cannot even sample ONE. SINGLE. WORD. with the audio enabled, without signing up for a 3 day trial. Yes, not even a full week. This app has not been updated in seven years, has banner ads, and you can’t even offer a sample section with a few basic phrases with the audio enabled, to see if it’s even worth purchasing your app. And where is the LIFETIME option? I don’t do the endless subscription model. I like to buy my apps ONCE and actually own them. If this app were regularly updated, and I could test out what the quality of voices used, and perhaps explore how the offline feature works, you might have more luck convincing me of its value. I was so shocked by the way it is set up, that I had to go research whether this is even a Collin’s product (The app is in fact genuine/associated with Collins.) The name Collins used to indicate it was a quality product. I happily used an actual Collin’s English dictionary with my EFL students with no problems- no subscription fee either and it is STILL MINE.👎 ### 2/5 — A terrible dictionary *2025-02-13, version 11.0.10* I am terribly disappointed with this dictionary. It doesn’t deliver. ### 3/5 — Missing Languages *2025-02-08, version 11.0.10* I could only give 3 stars since many languages are not available. I realize it is a large task to cover all languages. The biggest letdown was seeing Arabic, but not finding Hebrew, which may be the oldest language still in use today. I also did not find Hindi or Chinese, very disappointing. ### 2/5 — Collins World Dictionary *2024-05-18, version 11.0.10* Not a comprehensive dictionary when translating from Greek to English. Really limited vocabulary. Disappointing. ### 2/5 — It’s ok but hard to navigate and sounds awful *2023-02-28, version 11.0.10* I tried this for German and found that the pronunciation sounds were of such low quality it was hard to hear anything correctly for more complex words. Sounds like it was ripped from a CD made in 1995. ### 3/5 — basic navigation features don’t work! *2022-01-27, version 11.0.10* not possible to nav back to home/start screen after looking up a word. the back arrow doesn’t work. i have to literally reboot the app in order to look up a new word. running iOS 15.3 on iPhone 13 pro max ### 1/5 — Very poor for Swedish, and buggy *2021-10-07, version 11.0.10* The dictionary for Swedish is tiny, and missing huge amounts of absolutely essential vocab. It’s no better (and is perhaps worse) than one of those tiny pocket dictionaries. I haven’t used it much for other languages, but the size of dictionary appears small (relative to Collins’ dedicated dictionaries) in Polish and German, too. It’s also currently buggy: it often switches from Swedish <=> English into an unwanted combination (eg Turkish <=> English) and then won’t let me switch it back. Collins need to do at least two things for this to be worth a subscription: put their full dictionaries into this product, and make the basic interface work reliably! In the mean time, free apps like Linguee or Babla are much better. ### 1/5 — Portuguese from Brazil? *2021-07-03* Where is Portuguese from Brazil? It’s easier (and free) simply to Google the word you want translated. ### 1/5 — Totally useless *2021-03-08, version 11.0.10* The “Help” instructions simply don’t work. Whatever pair of languages are in the operating windows cannot be changed or deleted. Since they’ve got my money with no way to get it back I have to chalk this up to an undesirable experience. ### 1/5 — Doesn’t work. *2021-02-16* Either it doesn’t work or the instructions are awful. I’m going back to Google. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — A scam *2025-01-13, version 11.0.10* I pay $5.99 for this app helping me with words translation from French to English and it doesn’t work at all. When I write a word for translation it gives a list of words beginning with A what ever the word I am asking for. It’s a perfect scam as I do not find any way to be reimbursed. ### 1/5 — Cancel Subscription *2024-09-21, version 11.0.10* I want to cancel the monthly payment subscription. WHERE? HOW? I've been all over the internet and met with dead ends. App was dounloaded 9-3-2024 ad after a week of frustration using the app, I realized that my other dictionaries better meet my multi-linguistic needs. Do I have a life sentence of paying a $0.99/month charge for this unwanted downloaded app? ### 1/5 — Collins World Dictionary *2023-12-01, version 11.0.10* I am very disappointed with this app as it is so basic. I got it for the French-English dictionary mainly. It is very basic compared to the free online Collins French-English dictionary, which I had thought would be the version used. The definitions are single words only, there are no example sentences, no idiomatic expressions as in the Collins free. I tested it by looking up some common French words: con, conne, conard, conasse - no definitions for these words at all, which is a surprise as they do appear in the Collins free. Then I looked in the About section and see that this is just the Mini Gem French English dictionary. If that is the level you want/need then fine but it is not for me. I can’t get it to look up a Spanish work for the life of me. ### 1/5 — Worst dictionary app *2022-12-08, version 11.0.10* Worst dictionary I have ever used ### 1/5 — Croatian-Thai??? *2022-06-21* The advertised 20 languages are unusable because they only exist in weird pairs. For example, I was looking for a quality Croatian dictionary from a renowned publisher (given that the rest of the Croatian dictionary apps are so poor they don’t even support the alphabet) and was happy to see this one, but they don’t offer Croatian<->English (or German, French, Spanish), only the weirdest combinations like Croatian<->Thai, Croatian<->Norwegian and so on, so I cannot use most of the languages. ### 1/5 — Audio does not work *2022-06-14, version 11.0.10* I usually use wordreference but decided to pay for offline searching and consistent audio. Unfortunately the Collins audio does not work and the help settings are extremely basic, providing no clues.
