## What is ColonyIQ?

ColonyIQ is the most comprehensive beekeeping management app built specifically for queen breeders, serious hobbyists, and commercial operations. Whether you're running a small apiary or managing hundreds of colonies across multiple locations, ColonyIQ gives you the tools to track, analyze, and improve every aspect of your operation from egg to laying queen.

Colony and Queen Management
Keep detailed records for every colony and queen in your operation. Log inspections with hive health scores, varroa mite counts, brood pattern ratings, temperament, honey stores, and more. Attach photos directly to colonies, queens, inspections, and calendar events so you always know exactly which hive is which even when you're suited up in the field. Track each queen's lineage, genetics, emergence date, instrumental insemination records, and performance history. Replace queens and automatically maintain bidirectional links between colonies and their queens.

Queen Rearing Calendar
ColonyIQ's built-in queen rearing timeline calculator automatically generates a step-by-step schedule from your graft date including capping dates, emergence, mating flights, and the first day queens can be instrumentally inseminated, accurately set to Day 7-10, the real-world window used by professional II breeders. Set custom reminders for key milestones and never miss a critical rearing step again.

Instrumental Insemination Tracking
Designed by beekeepers for II breeders, ColonyIQ tracks every insemination event with donor drone batch data, date, semen source, techniques used, and outcomes. BLUP genetic scoring lets you quantify performance traits across generations and identify your best breeding stock. The pedigree viewer visualizes multi-generation lineage at a glance.

Mite Management and Treatment Records
Log alcohol wash and sugar roll mite counts with colony-level trending over time. Record every treatment including oxalic acid vaporization, ApiLife VAR, MAQS, Apistan, and any custom method with dosage, application dates, and efficacy notes. The beekeeping calendar includes pre-built treatment regiment templates with automatic follow-up reminders.

NFC Smart Tags
Tap any NFC sticker to instantly open the colony, queen, or apiary record it's linked to with no searching and no scrolling. Write new tags directly from within the app, reassign them in seconds, and manage your entire tag inventory from the NFC Manager dashboard. NFC scanning works even when the app is fully closed on both iOS and Android.

Apiaries and Locations
Organize your colonies by apiary with custom location names, GPS coordinates, and notes. Move colonies between locations and maintain a full movement history. Attach photos to apiary locations for easy identification in the field.

Harvests and Production Tracking
Record honey, wax, pollen, and propolis harvests with weights, grades, and notes. Track production per colony over time to identify your most productive genetics.

Beekeeping Calendar and Reminders
A full-featured beekeeping calendar lets you schedule inspections, treatments, queen rearing cycles, drone production batches, swarm prevention checks, and custom events. Set reminder notifications so nothing falls through the cracks during your busiest season.

Vaccination and Biocontrol Records
Track American Foulbrood vaccination events, Oxalic Acid Extended Release treatments using the Randy Oliver and Aluen Cap method, and any other biocontrol treatments with complete records for each colony.

Offline Ready
ColonyIQ is designed to work in remote apiaries with no cell service. Records sync automatically when you return to connectivity so you never lose data from a day in the field.

Free and Pro Plans
Get started free with core colony and queen tracking. Upgrade to ColonyIQ Pro for unlimited colonies, advanced genetics scoring, NFC tag support, full calendar features, and priority support. Subscribe directly through the app or at colonyiq.app.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.0.7 — 2026-08-04

Bug Fixes & Improvements

NFC Tags
Fixed an issue where the Scan Tag button on the home screen returned "Unknown Tag" even when the tag was properly assigned. Tags now correctly open the linked hive, queen, or apiary record every time.

Keyboard & Form Navigation
Fixed keyboard overlap issues across 16 add and edit screens on all iPhone models
Added quick Save and Cancel pill buttons at the top of every form so you can save or back out without scrolling
Improved keyboard dismiss behavior throughout the app

Colony Management
Added Colony Duplication — tap Duplicate on any colony to pre-fill a new colony form with the same details, saving time when setting up similar hives
Fixed an issue where the Replace Queen button was opening the calendar instead of the queen setup screen

Data & Export
Added Export My Data in Settings — export all your colonies, queens, or apiaries as an Excel file directly to your browser

Queen & Insemination Records
Fixed unknown queen appearing in insemination records
Fixed drone colony not appearing in batch dropdown

General
Performance and stability improvements throughout

### 1.0.6 — 2026-05-30

What's New in Version 1.0.5

This update focuses on reliability, usability, and polish based on direct feedback from our beta testers. Every screen in the app has been reviewed and improved.

Keyboard Fixes Across the Entire App
On iPhone 17 Pro Max and other large-screen devices, the on-screen keyboard was covering save buttons on many screens, making it impossible to submit data without dismissing the keyboard first. This has been fixed on all 16 add and edit screens including mite counts, inspections, treatments, apiaries, colonies, queens, insemination records, harvests, vaccinations, drone batches, and more. The save button now stays visible while typing on every screen on every device.

NFC Scanning Now Works From Anywhere
Previously, scanning an NFC tag only worked if the app was already open. Now, scanning a tag from a completely closed app correctly opens ColonyIQ and navigates directly to the linked colony, queen, or apiary record. The Scan Tag button on the home screen is now fully active and ready to use with a single tap.

Settings Save Fixed for New Accounts
Some users were unable to save their profile settings including display name, operation name, phone, and website after first creating an account. This has been corrected and settings now save reliably for all users.

Queen Rearing Calendar Timing Corrected
The first instrumental insemination milestone on the queen rearing timeline has been updated from Day 21 to Day 7, which accurately reflects the real-world window when queens become sexually mature and ready for II. The typical range is Day 7 through Day 10 with Day 6 being the earliest possible.

Android Display Fixes
Several text labels on the home screen grid were breaking mid-word on Android devices, showing text like Inspecti ons and Treatme nts. This has been corrected so all tile labels display cleanly on every screen size. The Beekeeping Calendar header was also wrapping incorrectly on Android and now displays on a single line.

NFC Manager Section Labels Fixed
The NFC Manager dashboard was incorrectly displaying the section heading as COLONYS. This has been corrected to COLONIES.

General Stability and Polish
Various under-the-hood improvements have been made to improve app startup time, reduce unnecessary network calls, and ensure data loads faster on the Grow Tracker and Community Garden screens. Profile and settings data now loads more reliably across all supported devices.

Thank you to our beta testers for your detailed feedback. Keep it coming.
