### 4/5 — Good but not great

*2026-01-04, version 2.0.1*

VERY happy to find this app after a lifetime of dealing with being colorblind. My only redwood that it can be updated to deal with my mixed red/green color blindness in is display mode.

### 4/5 — Works well, but UI is clunky

*2025-09-02, version 2.0.1*

My son is colorblind for red green and I’m helping him try to understand the world as I see it. The app seems to work really well at differentiating different colors. THANK YOU SO MUCH.

However, I find the user interface and usability of the app very frustrating. To me it’s completely non-intuitive how to change between the different modes. For example, the app started off in the camera mode but it’s now in picture [still] mode and I can’t get it back into camera mode.

Summary: Functionality wise, this is a great app, but suffers from poor usability. (As an IT person I can help you develop and test enhancements, if you wish. Hence 4 stars

### 4/5 — The best one, but:

*2025-06-27, version 2.0.1*

This app is just amazing, it’s the best one out there. It lacks of two main features only: pitch to zoom, and proper i18n. Add italian, please!

### 4/5 — Useful but not quite perfect

*2025-03-31, version 2.0.1*

This is an excellent tool that I have found really helpful. Would be five stars but have found that the absence of a white balance tool/setting means that some colour readings can be off a bit.

### 3/5 — Works pretty well, not always accurate.

*2025-01-18, version 2.0.1*

Unfortunately it gets colors slightly wrong sometimes, I think because of ambient light or reflected light from surfaces that skew the results. I had a shirt and pants and I could not tell if they were grey or blue. The app said they were a shade of blue. I was meeting up with a girl on a date and told her I was wearing blue. When I met her she was a little confused because my outfit was 100% grey. And that’s been confirmed by other people since then. I used the app inside instead of out in the bright sun, maybe thats the problem.

### 2/5 — User unfriendly

*2025-01-04, version 2.0.1*

The tutorial doesn’t highlight the button it’s asking you to press, or help you locate it if you do something that hides it, and it takes five clicks to switch between the different kinds of colour blindness, which is impractical if you are an artist or designer using this as an aid to review the accessibility of your work

### 3/5 — Color Blind Pal Review

*2024-01-12, version 2.0.1*

Loved previous versions helped me a lot with tiny wires and items hard to see. Now with new iPhone the app doesn’t make use of macro camera so it’s VERY hard to use this app now. Would greatly appreciate an update that can use the close up camera too!!!
Thank you

### 2/5 — Marvellous idea but spoilt by magnifier over split screen icon

*2023-09-27, version 2.0.1*

I’m colourblind and was really looking forward to using this app. Unfortunately, on my iPad with the latest update the tutorial freezes at the point it asks me to tap on the magnifier because the magnifier is directly under the split screen icon in both landscape and portrait orientation. This means every time I try to click on the magnifier the result is a split screen and tapping again simply results in returning to full screen. Therefore, I am unable to complete the tutorial so have limited understanding of how to use this app. I am so disappointed.

### 4/5 — Erweitert das Vorstellungsvermögen für Farbsehschwächen

*2023-06-19, version 2.0.1*

### 4/5 — Great app - not perfect yet

*2023-04-04, version 2.0.1*

I hate to throw around a phrase like “life changing” but I’m tempted. Color Blind Pal is a pal indeed, helping me make the least of my deuteranopia. But I really wish it would do just a couple more things. 1) Front facing camera (so I can use it to help with my makeup and outfits); 2) Remember my settings, because it’s super annoying to have to switch modes and adjust the hue range every single time I open it. I thank the developers for this great app, and hope they keep on developing it!

### 5/5 — Incredibly Useful

*2023-03-25, version 2.0.1*

I was struggling wiring some Ethernet cables at home, as I couldn't differentiate the red and green pairs. This app has really helped me find the difference, primarily through the filter feature. The tutorial was also really useful whilst staying pleasantly brief.

### 4/5 — Great start

*2022-12-22, version 2.0.1*

Let’s start by admitting, there are not a lot of apps that cater toward helping those who are colorblind. This app is a great start and could evolve into something better. I’ve personally found it helpful on a multitude of situations! When you can’t tell green from brown it doesn’t matter the exact color shade. I’ve seen a lot of comments, “that lite pink, magenta, peach, lavender, etc. doesn’t accurately reflect.” Those don’t matter to me. I need to know if it’s green or brown, blue or purple, red or brown, orange or red, pink or grey, etc. No need for extra shades and descriptions - let’s just hit the primary colors. This app has helped me with that! Thank you!

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Péssimo

*2026-07-14, version 2.0.1*

Mostrei uma calça preta e dizia laranja, mostrei uma blusa azul marinho e dizia púrpura

### 1/5 — Gave it a try

*2025-10-06, version 2.0.1*

To my knowledge, I am a red green colorblind. I Downloaded the app to see what it might provide.. At first I was impressed when it immediately identified my brown slacks. However, upon looking at items on my table, I was startled to find out that a piece of white paper was identified orange hue or yellow hue, which could’ve been reflection. What I didn’t notice was that unless something was a Strong, full saturated color it had difficulty distinguishing and giving it a color name. Since I am already confused by some colors I do not find that the app is beneficial and at this point have removed it from my phone. It’s a fascinating app. Give it a try yourself. You may find it would rate higher.

### 1/5 — Used to work

*2025-08-25, version 2.0.1*

Used to use this app all the time, now the camera just doesn’t work.

### 1/5 — Does not work

*2025-03-16, version 2.0.1*

Literally everything is faint orange I’d rate it negative 5

### 1/5 — Meh

*2024-05-03, version 2.0.1*

The other ones seem fine to me but as someone with tritanopia I can tell the colours on there are too vibrant but I'm not really sure if I'm blue blind or blue weak so just proceed with caution if your downloading this

### 1/5 — i’ve been bullied

*2024-02-06, version 2.0.1*

the app has ruined my life. 20 minutes ago i could see color. now i’m blind. thanks…

### 1/5 — Doesn’t work for red deficiency

*2023-08-24, version 2.0.1*

Doesn’t work. source: I’m color blind

### 1/5 — Not even close!

*2022-08-24, version 2.0.1*

Stupid app had me going out not matching at all…. I could’ve guessed better than what it said

### 1/5 — Robert

*2021-12-23, version 2.0.1*

That app is worthless. It says navy is dull brown, purple is dull grey and brown is dull grey.

### 1/5 — The reviews MUST be fake

*2021-05-24, version 2.0.1*

I cannot imagine a more ineffective app. It actively alters the display as I try to view an object and seems to randomly assign color names. Maybe it fails to turn off the world’s worst automatic white balance? Whatever the problem is, it is not corrected by uninstalling and reinstalling, checking settings, turning off any and all filters or accessibility features, etc. Worse than rubbish

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Colorblind here

*2026-06-08, version 2.0.1*

Thanks to this app i can identify red, brown and green thank you color blind pal

### 5/5 — A valuable app!

*2026-01-30, version 2.0.1*

I’m a color-blind artist. I don’t know how many times I’ve had to ask my wife to check a color for me. I had a couple other color-checkers and they would help me figure out some colors. With this app, it is so simple to land a cross hair on a color and you get an immediate general read on it. Plus a color gamut at the bottom places the color along the range. Today, I put 100+ artists’ pastels away into their color categories in under an hour. Previously I would need someone else to do that or help me. I only wish I had found it when it was first launched a few years back. Great!

### 5/5 — Superb :)

*2025-12-23, version 2.0.1*

Precise, no nonesense. This tool is highly praised. Thank you so much to the person or people who put this App together. God bless!

### 5/5 — Works for color blind people

*2025-04-16, version 2.0.1*

I’m color blind, very impressed with how accurate and easy to this app is!

### 5/5 — Extrem hilfreich, erleichtert mir so vieles.

*2025-03-16, version 2.0.1*

### 5/5 — Amazing app, great for sorting colors when colorblind

*2024-06-20, version 2.0.1*

I got a giant bucket of perler beads to sort, but unbeknownst to me, I couldn’t really see the difference between a lot of the colors.

But with the help of this app, and the various tools (especially the shift), I can find the difference between them. Now, I can sort the colors with ease.

Thank you.

### 5/5 — it helped me<3

*2024-01-05, version 2.0.1*

i’m colorblind. thank you for helping me to see color better

### 5/5 — Exactly what I needed

*2023-08-17, version 2.0.1*

There is absolutely nothing complicated about this app, and that is a good thing. Most apps like it I’ve tried are filled with unnecessary fluff. For anyone who has any type of color blindness: get this app. It is a life savior for people like us.

### 5/5 — Awesome!

*2023-05-06, version 2.0.1*

Finally an app easy and straight forward! Thanks a lot! This app saved me!

### 5/5 — Awesome app. One addition would be great!

*2023-03-30, version 2.0.1*

Thank you Vincent for creating this app. I just downloaded, went through the tutorial (perfect, straightforward). The whole app is impressive and well thought out. One thing i thought of to enhance the app and truly make it work for us… how about adding a customization function that utilizes the Ishihara test or something similar, and then let us customize the settings so that it’s close to perfect for that one user? Make sure you copyright it too and maybe OS companies will pay you to use it as part of the accessibility option.
