Would be great if I could actually save all the info instead of immediately taking screenshots and organizing / tracking them outside the app. Thank you. ### 3/5 — Paint Colours *2026-05-28, version 14.7.3* The device and App work well but when I scan a wall painted with Dulux Natural Calico it comes up a Dulux colour ‘Jodhpurs’ and nowhere in the list of many colours does it say Natural Calico 🙄 the actual colour the wall is painted. Jodhpurs is an Australian Dulux colour ### 3/5 — Missing Paint finish in saved colors *2025-09-29* The app does not save paint finish in the saved colors folder ### 3/5 — App was working great until recent update *2024-01-25* Prior to installing a new update this week this app was great, functional, and did everything I needed to. Now when I’m scanning a color, the force closes the app and it’s useless. ### 2/5 — Numbers do not change when I’m advanced mode. *2022-07-05* As of newest update. The numbers do not change in comparison mode under advanced mode. If another color is selected the numbers won’t change until you go back to basic and then back to advanced. Maybe there is a way to do this that I don’t know about to have an accurate but it doesn’t seem to be working the way I thought it would. ### 3/5 — Account creation now required to see history *2020-09-13* The Sept 2020 app update prevents access to the history of previously scanned colors or comparing colors until an account is created. The previous app version allowed access to both without an account. Removing access to force account creation is annoying behavior for an app that is supporting a piece of hardware that was purchased from the company. The app should be facilitating use of the color muse, not obstructing use and collecting email addresses. Also, after creating an account, the display of previously scanned colors only shows 4 or 5 on the screen at one time and the hex RGB codes (e.g. #B2A334) are not displayed. The previous app showed 24 colors on the screen with the RGB codes. The new app does allow adding notes to the scanned colors and downloading a spreadsheet with all the color info including the RGB codes, which are nice features. Displaying additional color info with the scans would be a useful improvement. The 3 star review is for the Sept 2020 app, the Color Muse tool rates 5 stars - it’s small, quick, and reasonably accurate. **Developer response:** Hello dh868! Many of the Color Muse features are unavailable without an account. After creating an account you will gain access to compare, saved folders, and previous scan history! If you have any trouble after creating an account please email customerservice@variableinc.com ### 3/5 — Cool little unit *2020-09-08* I like the compare function a lot. I like how it breaks the two comparison colors down to lab, lch, rgb, & cmyk. And fails *2019-11-28, version 7.3.13* I bought this for the usual application: find suitable paint at the paint store to match my walls. But every part of the wall i tested came back with a different result?! And where i previously tried to color-match by eye (and failed visibly) the app reported that only a super-human would spot a difference. I beg to differ. Will be returning the gadget with disappointment. ### 4/5 — Super helpful! Need PMS colors, too!! *2019-05-21, version 7.3.13* I work in interior design, and so I need to pull a paint color from something random a lot. A LOT. This lil tool + app is a lifesaver! One request: it would be incredibly helpful to pull the PMS (Pantone Matching System) colors from a scan. It would make working with graphic designers much easier!! ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Disappointingly Inaccurate *2026-05-20* I just painted a job that has 4 different Ben Moore colors and decided my first test of accuracy would be on this project. . Only 1 out of 5 did it have the correct color at the top of the list. The second color was in the suggestions but further down. The other 3 did not even show up. Two of them that did not even show up are the very popular colors White Dove and Silver half dollar. The other one was Ballet White. Sometimes it showed and other times it didn’t. ### 1/5 — Does Not Work *2026-03-19* Could not connect device after numerous attempts. Support avenue does not work from app. Junk ### 1/5 — Compare colour is not good enough *2026-03-17, version 14.3.24* What’s the point in a feature where you can’t use it properly? you go scan lots of colours, save them into your library then when you want to scan and find that colour from your library THATS NOT AN OPTION you can click on that colour and add to the compare, but if I already know what’s the colour why would I compare again?! if the library is built it need to search trough that not single colours ### 1/5 — New update broke the app *2025-09-02* New updates don’t allow for loading catalog colors into the compare application, and searching for similar colors to color scanned or searched for now gives 0 results. Worked perfectly fine before the recent updates. I purchased new and they sold me used. It charges with a micro usb cable like it’s 2004. Is complete outdated junk that doesn’t work and shouldn’t be on the market anymore. ### 1/5 — New software broke my muse *2023-06-30* I was happy with my color muse but hadn’t used it in a few months so my iPhone archived the app. When I went to use it, it downloaded an update I guess and it won’t connect. ### 1/5 — The app won’t let me log in *2022-07-05* I only use this app 3-4 times a year and I have never had a problem before but I just tried to log in and it won’t let me. When I click the “continue without logging in” option a different error message comes up. ### 1/5 — Absurd. *2021-01-16* New version of app is terrible. Way too many steps to get going. 1st step: Select create account or login. 2nd step: use your email and password to sign in and click submit. 3rd step: select your region (North America) 4th step: select package (paint and coatings) 5th step: shows you a tutorial that you have to skip 6th step: click on “connect device” 7th step: click on your listed device 8th step: click on “calibrate device” Only then, can you start scanning. This is absurd. Preposterous. What other app do you use that requires this many steps to get going? I have scanned one color and am trying to match it in another brand. I don’t have the option to do that. We played with it some, but we had already repainted our house, so it was more of a gimmick. We recently bought a new house and this little thing has come in very handy. I have tested it against paint samples and it has matched every one of them. I used it on the walls that have been painted for 2 years and it provided me with the correct paint color we used so we could patch holes. It is also handy to keep the color palette on so we have the colors at hand whenever we are out and about. ### 5/5 — good for searching paints *2017-09-21, version 7.2.12* was able to search paints quickly. tested with some paint cards i have and the right colors came up. useful tool ### 4/5 — Easier compare would be nice *2023-06-21* I bought the Pantone subscriotion. My usage will be in printing, where colors are specified by pantone number. It woukd be great if i could simply type in the target pantone number, do a scan, and get a delta E. Having to scan a color fan doubles the work and makes it necessary to carry a fan around with me.
