### 3/5 — Stick with the free app

*2026-07-13*

I’ve just upgraded to the pro version of this app and to say I’m underwhelmed would be an understatement. I thought the colour saturation tool would be great, it wasn’t. I thought maybe I could mix and match different brands, I can’t. To be honest I wish I had just saved my money and stayed with the free version.

This app could offer so much more and be so much better. How about a feature where you can mix and match different colour pencil brands or that we can create our own ‘pencil case’ where we log all the different pencils we own and the colour picker selects from those pencils only. Also what about a swatching option (like Microsoft paint or be funky) where we can pick and swatch our colours and then maybe print it out for reference. If your feeling clever how about an option to have a reference photo and your drawing photo and superimpose one on top of the other changing the opaqueness so we can see where we need to improve / change and then pick the relevant colour from there. So much potential, but seriously missed the mark. However saying that the free version was great, just not worth spending the money on the full version.

### 3/5 — Update needed

*2025-11-16, version 4.3.3*

I love this app. It’s an incredible tool. That said, there is no option for the caran dache luminance set of 100 and that is really limiting my current experience. Would give a solid 5/5 otherwise.

### 4/5 — A good start to help choose colours

*2025-07-01*

Please can you remove this picture of the month option? I get notified each month and it’s been the same picture of 3 jelly babies since I first bought this app years ago.

Otherwise this app is great when you don’t know where to start with choosing your colours. You upload an image and drag the target over where you need it.
It could be improved if the image would stay in situ when you switch pencil sets, or when you open and close app. I’ve found one or two colours a bit off but mostly it is a help.

I get notifications to download the photo of the month - and that has been the same photo for well over a year now. Drives me bonkers. Notifications are switched off now.

### 4/5 — Très pratique pour le coloriste et portraitiste

*2023-07-18, version 4.3.3*

### 4/5 — It’s amazing!

*2023-06-06, version 4.3.2*

It’s really nice and easy to use, helps a lot when looking for the correct colors!

I would like to suggest the manager team to add the Caran D’Ache Luminance up to 100, the all had only the 76 version of it! It would help even more!

### 4/5 — Pretty awesome

*2023-03-08, version 4.3.2*

Would really love if some more companies could be added such as crayola or other budget brands

### 5/5 — Awesome!

*2023-02-28, version 4.3.2*

Fantastic tool to help with picking out colors!!! I don’t take the time to write many reviews but I wanted to on this app

### 5/5 — Caran D’Ache Luminance

*2023-02-17, version 4.3.2*

Semplicemente le migliori matite colorate che esistono!

### 2/5 — Can’t use premium on both iPad and iPhone

*2023-02-04, version 4.3.2*

I purchased this app and spent the money to upgrade, but when I open the app on my iPad it only allows me to use the free app and wants me to pay again for the upgrade. I really like the app but don’t want to pay twice!

### 5/5 — Very helpful!

*2023-01-26*

Downloaded as I needed to draw and colour a cardboard box with a limited set of polychromos. It’s harder than it should be to find the right blend of colours for cardboard! Anyway, worked a treat and I think I even learnt something.
It is free and I’ve used it for one photo so far and not had to see any ads yet. No doubt I will but fair enough. Someone put time and effort into making this, can’t expect it to be free.
Really helpful and such a time saving app so when I do get annoyed by the ads or need to access something I can’t then I will probably end up buying it.

### 3/5 — Dommage il n’y a pas les Brutfuner

*2023-01-16, version 4.3.2*

L’application est vraiment super mais il n’y a pas les Brutfuner, j’espère vraiment qu’ils vont les mettre !

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Hue is completely off.

*2025-08-29*

I wanted this app to help me with a particular project on my adult coloring. I need help when it comes to layering to blend to recreate a photo. I wasted my money. And ruined my project. I should have looked at the original phot instead of in the app. I may have been able to fix it. If you have a photo of a colored page that you are looking at, and try to match it up, you put the center thing in it, the moment you move it it completely goes to another color combination. You move it slightly in a small range of area and it gives you a hundred of options of colors. One little area that you are looking at should give you that specific color combination.
But it doesn't. The blended colors often look muddy. The instructions are vague. This was a complete waste of my money.

### 1/5 — Not accurate color

*2025-08-12, version 4.3.3*

The hue is way off. Bummer

### 1/5 — Colors way off

*2024-06-30, version 4.3.3*

I purchased the pro expecting the best. I tried using the prismacolor mixing that was suggested but the colors were no where near what they were supposed to be. I tried contacting the owner for help. I received no response and found navigation in the app not very user friendly. App was a great idea but unfortunately a waste of money. Wish I could get a refund.

### 1/5 — Restore purchase

*2023-12-16, version 4.3.3*

Bought a new iPad
Will not let me restore purchase to use on new iPad

### 1/5 — Not accurate. Wasted money

*2023-07-20, version 4.3.3*

Skin colors turned out muddy and I absolutely ruined a sketch that I spent hours working on. There’s no support for the app at all. No response from the developers for help. Heartbreaking.

### 1/5 — Am I doing something wrong?

*2023-02-02*

The monthly download picture never changes - always 3 jelly babies. Thinking of abandoning this app 😞

### 1/5 — Comment

*2022-12-30, version 4.3.2*

Note that you when you download it, it won’t reveal all the colors needed/it’s not usable until you click to agree to see ads.

### 1/5 — 🪢

🦭🦭🦭🦭🦭🦭🦭🦭🦭🦭🦭🦭🦭🦭🦭🦭🦭🦭🦭🦭🦭🦭🦭🦭🦭🦭🦭🦭🦭🦭

### 1/5 — rip off, think twice

*2022-08-08*

the app uses the thumbnails and tricks you into thinking that you can do a lot more than what it actually does. this is mere picker of 1 pixel range. the grid is useless, the ratio blend is auto and pointless, it does not give you any rgb or hex values. i just lost $12 because i trusted the developer, beware!

### 1/5 — Not accurate at all

*2022-01-24*

I’ve used this app so many times and wasted so many resources and time due to the colours not being accurate to the pictures. Materials cost money which is being wasted because of this app.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Absolutely Amazing!!!!

*2026-01-31, version 4.3.3*

10 stars!

### 5/5 — Plus de marques

*2025-09-03, version 4.3.3*

C’est super ingénieux comme application. Ce serait bien d’avantages de marques, même les moyens gamme

### 5/5 — Used for nearly all of my art pieces

*2025-06-13*

I use this app for every colored pencil project now. It (unintentionally) taught me to use the grisaille method when using a reference. There’s a detailing scale that distorts the image to easily see the contrast of your highlights/shadows, to slowly build up color.
My only complaints are: the color reference is for high-end brands; Luminance only exceeds 76; Polychromos flesh tone names are outdated; Prismacolor (Lavender&Lilac) are still a color reference despite being discontinued.
However, this is actually pretty irrelevant if you’re familiar with a set of budget pencils. If you have a swatch chart handy, it can easily be used for any set - I absolutely love it.
It was worth it for me to pay the one time fee of $5 to unlock everything for the things I do with it nearly everyday.

### 5/5 — This is the goat

*2025-03-18, version 4.3.3*

I’ve used this for years it’s so epic

### 5/5 — Love it!

*2024-06-12*

Very easy and intuitive and I received an immediate response from the developer when I needed more guidance. I own several brands of colored pencils but have the 120 Polychromos set, Prismacolor 72, the Luminance and Pablo 40 sets. Being able to choose the size and brand of the sets you have is wonderful because you don’t face being told to use colors you don’t own. Until Bonny Snowden mentioned this kind of app in one of her Vlogs, I had no idea something of this kind even existed. I’m so glad it does. I purchased the upgrade to access the 3rd color and feel it was well worth the $.

### 5/5 — Wonderful

*2024-03-05*

This is a very useful app that has helped me achieve realism for the first time in many years of practice. It sees colors I can’t on my own.

I wonder if the creator would consider, though, adding the rest of the Caran d’Ache Luminance line now that there’s a 100-set(?).

Thank you so much!

### 5/5 — Great app

*2023-07-23, version 4.3.3*

I love this app. Wish I could find the same thing for pastel pencils

### 5/5 — Color picker

*2023-06-18*

Easy app works great for colored pencil but you can use it for watercolor oil I found the app on you tube and it works great or anything you want to match your color palette to your reference

### 5/5 — Excelente

*2023-06-04, version 4.3.2*

Muito bom!

### 5/5 — THEHEHE BEst

*2023-03-06, version 4.3.2*
