### 1/5 — LPLXGCTRL1

*2024-07-13, version 2.0.0*

The description of this App makes it sound like you can connect via bluetooth to a colorsplash light itself. But the light is controlled by the Halco LPL-XG-CTRL1 hardware device typically mounted in a wall box. That is what the phone bluetooth connects to. I don’t think HALCO makes these anymore after being acquired by Hayward and now hooked up to Omni system via P-Color (Pentair) light config. But you can still get the XG controller from various pool suppliers as of mid-year 2024

### 1/5 — Please update this app!

*2024-06-18, version 2.0.0*

This app is not intuitive at all. It doesn’t have an on/off button. Developers please review with someone who uses the app and make some simple updates to make this useful.

### 1/5 — Stand by does not work

*2024-06-07, version 2.0.0*

So basically you can change colors but not turn on or off the pool lights , the stand by button does not work so I have to physically have to go out and turn the lights on and off .. please fix this issue ASAP

### 1/5 — Standby switch on app does not work

*2024-05-28, version 2.0.0*

After the app didn’t upgrade I have not been able to turn my pool light off. The standby switch does not work. So my light has been consistently burning now for several weeks.

### 1/5 — Help me Turn Off Lights…..

*2024-05-26, version 2.0.0*

Updated app on my iPhone 15 does not allow me to shut off the lights. There is a “standby” slider button, but it won’t slide. Try pressing it in many different ways, but won’t turn off…anybody know why?

### 1/5 — Simply the worst app I’ve ever used

*2024-05-24, version 2.0.0*

Constantly needs to reconnect even when right next to the unit. App always complains on startup that it needs Bluetooth enabled (it is). The pool light is LED color but so neutered by the limitations imposed by the manufacturer to only specific colors they allow. I hope everyone involved with this app and the over priced LED finds a new profession in life because this clearly isn’t their calling.

### 1/5 — Doesn’t work

*2024-05-10, version 2.0.0*

The app won’t connect even directly over the light.
The light itself works fine , I’m just worried about breaking my light switch from having to turn it off & on 8 to 11 times just to get a solid color. I wish the app would work so I wouldn’t have to worry about that.

### 1/5 — Buy a different light

*2024-05-06, version 2.0.0*

The app is designed by a three year old. Doesn’t function at all. I would love to turn my light on standby (off) however the toggle in the app does not respond. The latest update offered no new functions only interface but it doesn’t work. Garbage.

### 1/5 — Ken

*2024-04-30, version 2.0.0*

I cannot turn the pool light off using this app! Please revert back to the old format!

### 1/5 — No guidelines or support

*2023-12-03, version 1.0.1*

The iPhone and iPad app has no information at all on how to connect to Bluetooth nor does it have any troubleshooting guide. So far it won’t connect. Obvious steps such as internet connectivity have been checked.

I have had no specific help from Hayward support center other than to review many videos that do not address the topic. People talented in computer engineering may have a decent chance to troubleshoot.

So, in my opinion there is no use to the app. I’m glad it was free since all that is wasted is time even though it is a limited resource as well. If I had been more aware, it would have been a better notion to choose a more straightforward product.

### 1/5 — Junk

*2023-05-09, version 1.0.1*

My pool lights turn on randomly at all times of the day/night. For what we paid, there should be a wifi function and longer Bluetooth range. I would not recommend this to anyone.

### 1/5 — Bad software

*2022-10-04, version 1.0.1*

As I work for Amazon, I can tell you with my XG controller that software is very limited. First, the BT technology is short ranged. Can't even turn the lights on with the app from iPhone inside a house. Second, zero Alexa integration and no timer function in this app means you absolutely cannot program your pool lights to come on and off. J&J should update this software to add an Alexa skill or have a timer function, to increase range of BT. Pain to turn on and off lights manually every day. I don't recommend this light

### 1/5 — Needs major improvement

*2022-08-20, version 1.0.1*

I’m currently trying to either find a way to increase the Bluetooth range, or Find a wireless option. The Bluetooth range on this is so weak that the only way I can get my phone to pick up the controller is to walk to the other end of my house. See the box has to be mounted out by the pool equipment, and you have to get practically next to the box to finally pick it up the signal. Unacceptable, useless.
Lately our color splash light keeps turning itself on by itself. This morning at 3:30 AM it decided to do a disco light show. We had to get out of bed and get close to the box just to turn it off. From my research apparently my three-year-old color box might be bad already.
As far as this app goes it is not intuitive that you need to hit the standby light to turn the light on or off.

### 1/5 — Does NOT connect

*2022-03-22, version 1.0.1*

Very disappointed. App does not connect at all. Also, there is NO troubleshooting or ANY help of any kind AT ALL. I guess we’ll swallow whatever color the bulb picks for now.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Trash

*2026-04-22, version 2.0.0*

As the other reviews have pointed out - this app is useless. Save your money, and go with something that actually connects, and works.

### 1/5 — Standby is unwatchable

*2026-01-06, version 2.0.0*

Useless app. Previous version much better. This version doesn’t allow you to toggle standby which means I have to go outside to the actual light controller and physically turn the lights on and off. Defeats the object. Utter trash app

### 1/5 — Does not pair

*2025-12-26, version 2.0.0*

I was concerned about being able to adjust colors, but I never even got that far. The device won’t be found through their app. I can see why it has such bad reviews.

### 1/5 — App does not work

*2025-12-23, version 2.0.0*

Just as others have stated, the app does not recognize the bulb. Says no device connected even though the light bulb is on. For the price of this lightbulb, one would expect this to work. So lame🤦🏻‍♀️

### 1/5 — worst

*2025-07-08, version 2.0.0*

Worst app ever. How is it supposed to work? How does it turn off except to go to box and shut it off manually. A simple off button would make sense

### 1/5 — Newer program stinks big time.

*2025-07-04, version 2.0.0*

ColorSplash on and off. Before you updated the program I was able to shut off the lights but with the newer program I can’t turn the lights from my phone. Then I have to go outside and turn the lights off in the dark. Why would you do this to the program???

### 1/5 — Why????

*2025-04-20, version 2.0.0*

Why is there only 12 color options, am I missing something? This is not what I expected!

### 1/5 — App doesn’t work

*2024-12-09, version 2.0.0*

Can’t connect to light bulb. Says it uses bluetooth, but device doesn’t appear in app or in phone settings.

### 1/5 — Do not waste your money

*2024-12-03, version 2.0.0*

No way to turn the light on or off via the app. Standby button does not work. Save your time and money and purchase something else.

### 1/5 — Standby no longer works in this version

*2024-08-21, version 2.0.0*

I can not activate standby anymore. The green button is not functioning. I deleted the app and reloaded with no luck. Wish I could go back to the previous app version. Maybe they can put a new button instead of the non-functional one. Pain to have to turn off the system physically.

## Most praised reviews (8 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Works well - need HomeKit support

*2021-09-09, version 1.0.1*

My J&J ColorSplash controller is driving a set of Pentair pool and landscaping lights. This works well despite both vendors claiming incompatibilities for each other’s products. I chose the J&J controller to get the Bluetooth functionality that the Pentair controller is lacking. The app works well and I can connect fine over the distance of ca 40ft.

My ask of J&J would be to enable HomeKit functionality so that the controller can be a seedless part of home automation and can be voice activated. Thanks for the consideration.

### 5/5 — Such an easy and fun upgrade!

*2019-06-20, version 1.0.1*

Such an easy unit! I love it, be cautious about setting up this controller if you feel that it will be too far away from the house or have obstructions. It is Bluetooth.

### 4/5 — ColorSplash XG Controller

*2018-08-24, version 1.0.1*

Having problems with connecting to my iPhone X. We’ve had over 6 months. I changed phones now having problems connecting. I will see what y tube has to other than that I love it. My pool is beautiful at night.

### 2/5 — Bluetooth issue

*2024-05-22*

The Stand by button doesn’t do anything so my lights stay on unless I physically go and turn them off.

Color change works but what good is that if can’t turn them on and off with my phone.

I have deleted and reinstalled the app and still doesn’t work!!!

Does anyone have suggestions?

### 2/5 — Update?!?

*2022-03-01, version 1.0.1*

Is this app ever going to be updated?

Need to be able to schedule light on and off

### 2/5 — Poor design and poor technology choice

*2021-08-18, version 1.0.1*

The use Bluetooth is simply dumb! The range is too low for what we need it for and you have to reconnect every time you open the app.

A wifi connection would make the most sense and would give range and consistency needed for a good experience.

I hope they listen to customers and reimagine this.

### 2/5 — App Functions

*2021-05-23, version 1.0.1*

We purchased these lights for Bluetooth capability to be able to turn the pool lights on/off with our phones. Now that the lights are installed, we do not see where they can be turned on/off “from the palm of our hands”. Are we missing something? It doesn’t seem right that the APP would not provide basic functionality (on/off). Who would care to Bluetooth to change the color, but have to walk out to the control to turn power on/off? What are we missing here?
This app does appear to provide the functionality that was promised. Who wants to be able to change the color of their lights, but not be able to turn them on/off - this is basic functionality that should be included.

### 2/5 — Bluetooth won’t connect

*2021-04-13, version 1.0.1*

Finding it impossible to connect my app my phone to the controller. We will not recognize the controller.
