### 2/5 — Not enough quiz content

*2018-06-24*

I like where they were going with it, but there’s not much content in the quizzes.

### 1/5 — Applicatoin is not up to date

*2014-02-19*

Applicatoin is not up to date. Latest review of Colreg 2003 ammendments not included. NO WIG-craft lights mentioned, etc. Please update!

### 2/5 — Fit screen

*2014-02-09*

First time I met application that does not fit iPad screen. I guess that something wrong with resolution. The picture is blurred. I had to scroll down and up within one screen in test regime to see possible answers.
So it is not comfortable to use.

### 1/5 — It's not all there...

*2013-10-09*

In the description it clearly says that ALL the rules are listed in the Colregs section, this is not the case.

Only rules 20 to 31 are listed.

I will not delete this app in the hope that the next update completes the Colregs section, including the annexes, which is the only reason I bought it.

Otherwise, the app is great.

### 1/5 — Useless

*2013-06-01*

Dont buy this app, it does not have all rules as per ColRegs.

### 1/5 — Mr

*2013-02-24*

Quite disappointed by this. Another confirmation that inexpensive often means cheap. I don't understand why the tests just repeat the same questions in the same sequence. In a realistic learning environment you would want random questions. i would also like to go to a test in a category where i felt weak rather than slog thru everything i am happy with to get to the areas i am interested in. Maybe I've missed something but I have found this a waste of money. A review of this on the web said it was much better than test cards but I don't agree. Does anyone else think that content providers given access to a mass market without objective editing results in a general lowering of standards?

### 2/5 — Not good

*2013-01-27*

I initially had high hopes for these 3 apps however there are quite a few completely wrong answers in the tests and the tests themselves are repetitive. Once you've done them once you get the same questions again.
So, disappointing for the money.

### 2/5 — COLREGS

*2012-12-13*

I purchased this app (and its sister app "Rules if the Road") to study for a USCG nav rules exam. It wasn't that helpful. The self-test feature works okay, but doesn't allow you to keep track of your progress. Most annoying for me is that one must purchase two separate apps to cover the entire COLREGs, and US Inland Rules are not Included. (Okay, I know it is a UK app.) One is better off simply studying the COLREGS itself.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Does not work well on iPads

*2026-06-28*

Many issues with this app if using Apple phones or tablets.

### 1/5 — Disappointing.

*2025-03-27*

Don’t bother buying this. Waste of money. None of the online quizzes actually work. There’s reviews 5+ years old saying the same thing so they’ve clearly not upgraded anything

### 1/5 — Not the one

*2023-12-29*

Keep looking, not a user friendly interface, not a great learning tool.
Not worth the money, buyer’s remorse.
I got the 3 app bundle and all 3 have the same terrible format.

### 1/5 — Has Errors

*2021-07-10*

I found at least one error in one of the test questions. I don't want to use an app that is going to sabotage me. Test Yourself Q7, the correct answer should be "NOT making way NUC" but "Making way NUC" is listed as the correct answer. Not reliable.

### 1/5 — Shocking

*2021-04-28*

Absolute waste of money! Thought it was worth a go but it’s poorly made and definitely not optimised for I'd. Tests are ok but these are the same as the free online ones available. I read the bad reviews and still purchased the app... Don't make the same mistake

### 1/5 — Not quite there

*2020-04-16*

Low on content with only 55 questions, and at least 3 incorrect answers. One of those App Store purchased I wish I hadn’t made.

### 1/5 — Expensive and limited

*2018-07-22*

Very expensive for the limited information and repetitive tests.

### 1/5 — Doesn't help

*2017-09-03*

Literally hardly any info, just reads the rules and a dodgy test. Very few pictures to show how lights would look at different angles. Wish I'd read the other reviews before buying, my mistake. Would not recommend.

### 1/5 — App is wrong

*2017-02-11*

Take the test and wrong answers provided no right answer want my money back don't waste your time

### 1/5 — Incredibly disappointing, incorrect information

*2015-09-11*

With an exam coming up I downloaded this up predominates for the 'test yourself' function, I have been sorely disappointed to find that I cannot progress past question 5/6 in any of the 3 quizzes due to incorrect data on the app that means all answer options are wrong and therefore you cannot progress forward. I have emailed your app support out of courtesy to inform you of the errors and not even had a reply which has led me to writing this review.
To the app buyers, do t waste your money until the app has had an update/ been fixed.. There are others out there that are similar and function perfectly like 'Buoys & Lights' and 'Marine Education'

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Great - wish I’d found this before

*2019-05-01*

Comprehensive info on navlights and day shapes with a really useful test section. Covers a lot, and has very clear diagrams of how the lights will look, as well as the written official regs. A good purchase.

### 5/5 — Recommended, good app

*2017-11-22*

This was recommended by the instructor at my local sail school. There’s a lot of useful stuff here and it’s well presented. A good way to learn the Colregs and keep them on your ‘phone for when you need to check.

### 5/5 — Sensible application

*2016-04-26*

So far it is the most sensible application on ColRegs (I tried using Rules of the Road and Flash Marine also).
You can skip description text, you can read text. No stupid connections with Game Center, takes a couple of seconds before you can start reading, but that's reasonable.

### 5/5 — Looks brilliant on my iPad

*2012-12-13*

The graphics in this new addition of the app look stunning on the iPad 3 (retina) - I also really appreciate the additional questions and answers in the "test yourself" a section. I used to forget the ColRegs but this app has really helped me stay fresh. thanks guys

### 4/5 — Great learning app.

*2022-03-15*

Nicely done easy to follow and the test is great too. Would be great to see the day cones on the same page as the night lights (and vice verse) The Red colour in the “rules ” hi lights is also impossible to read on a blue background. Maybe keep them black type but put in bold. Thanks. Great learning app.

### 4/5 — Professionally done, with good clear info.

*2014-04-22*

Easy and intuitive to navigate and use, and what's more the graphics are the best I've seen in similar apps. I saw it had good reviews from others and wasn't disappointed when I downloaded. A great app for anyone going out on the water, and anyone learning for exams.

### 3/5 — Has Potential

*2022-03-08*

Has a lot of potential to be a great app. As of this review, the application is rules 1-4, 20-31 of Navigation Rules and Regulations, and a short quiz. You can buy the whole book for $9.50 on Amazon (rules 1-38, Annex’s, and 50 pages of additional information).

The book only has pictures in black and white, so the examples in the book are not very useful. I purchased this app hoping there would be colored pictures

If the developers of this app provide colored examples I would recommend this app to others. Unfortunately, there are NO pictures. If the app ever adds pictures examples of the lights in color, it will be worth it.

### 3/5 — Has potential!

*2013-01-15*

I found this app to be ok but with a little bit of work it has the potential to be really useful. A few of the answers in the test yourself section are too brief and actually a bit wrong. Could also do with shuffling around the questions and giving you a score at the end of it! Hoping for an update soon.....

### 3/5 — Okay, but not much value added compared to Imray

*2012-03-15*

I already owned the Imray app that goes over the same material. I bought this one mostly for the multiple choice quiz that it has. This function was nice to have, but it would have been better if there'd been some analysis of your results and if the quiz had covered a bit more material (sounds, for instance). I would also preferred if the quiz had been broken down into section (night lights, day shapes, etc). For revising, I prefer the Imray app--it just seemed a bit cleaner and easier to negotiate. This is only a couple quid, though, and it was nice to have the quiz, even with its limited functionality.

### 2/5 — Okay - no variety in tests

*2019-03-07*

Tests and questions do not vary which makes the educational side of things quite poor.
