### 4/5 — Great App but …

*2023-01-21, version 3.6.22*

We enjoy reading the Columbus Dispatch on our iPads, using the app. It’s easy to zoom in and out, navigate to sections or pages, or open articles in text view to email. Plus, you can access other editions (the Sarasota Herald-Tribune carries Carolyn Hax’s daily column!).

My only complaint is that every time I click on the app, it asks if I want to download the most recent edition. Very annoying! All our other news apps default automatically to the latest news. Please fix this!

### 4/5 — Connect with Apple or Google account

*2023-01-09, version 3.6.22*

The app is easy to use once you get with the program and link to one of the above. Since doing, I have never had an access problem. But I had continuous problems trying to logon using a password.

### 4/5 — Still a paper

*2023-01-07, version 3.6.22*

I miss having the paper but for the price I still enjoy the news electronically. I also don’t miss writing checks, carrying cash, or pay phones. It has taken some time to adjust to and find the settings that I like to use. Being fairly technical and inquisitive helps. Now if I can just train myself not to touch the next section button.

### 4/5 — Good for the most part

*2022-12-14, version 3.6.22*

Being kind of old fashioned, I didn't think I would like this, but I'm finding it easier to read from the tablet than having the big paper spread out on my small table.
Scrolling freezes up more than I like, and the one time I went to the USA Today version, I could not figure out how to get back to the Dispatch without shutting the whole thing down and starting over.

### 4/5 — Good, not perfect

*2022-09-30, version 3.6.22*

The app gives me the ability to read the paper. I can expand the text to a comfortable size. I can also read on the road and read the editions they no longer print. Sometimes I fight with the interface, but not too much.

### 4/5 — Hic-cups

*2022-06-30, version 4.33.13*

Had a frozen blank page yesterday on IPad and couldn’t get past it. Also had a new e-mail from Dispatch about signing in. Went to App icon and tried to open that way. Didn’t work. Eventually went back to regular sign in (after getting it on phone and computer) and got to read paper on IPad

### 4/5 — Please change arrows

*2022-05-16, version 4.33.13*

Arrows on right side of page are too close together. One advances the page and the other goes all the way to the beginning or end. Too easy to touch the wrong one while reading. Content and layout great.

### 4/5 — Answers for jumble

*2022-04-24, version 4.33.13*

Don’t like the answers being given until the next day. If I’m unsure or if there are two possibilities I often can’t remember the words the next day. I liked the way they were when you can check immediately. I really enjoy the jumble but DO NOT LIKE WAITING UNTIL THE NEXT DAY.

### 4/5 — The newest updates have really improved stability.

*2022-04-12, version 4.33.13*

My previous review, below, needs to be updated.

The new updates have left the app is good condition, stable, and working well. There is still the occasional problem need re-authentication, but they are now rare.

Easily 4 or 5 stars now.

We have subscribed to the Dispatch since moving to Columbus in 1983, both print, and when it became available, online. We have had occasional difficulties with the e-edition app, but nothing like for the past month, when nothing works. We have called repeatedly, to no avail. Our account is filled with funds, we are getting the print edition, and we can login through a browser and get a poor version of the paper with no ability to email articles or print articles (or crosswords!) It just doesn’t work, and no one at the Dispatch or service company has any ability to answer or fix it. We simply get a message that says to call them about our account, which we have done. Oh, and we also get a message every couple weeks that has our correct home address in Columbus except that it has our country as Mexico, where we have never been. Repeated calls have apparently fixed that, but not the app access! A terrible waste of our time.

### 4/5 — One complaint about e-paper

*2021-11-09, version 4.33.13*

Well structured for easily navigating the paper. Only wish I could select and print to crossword puzzle without having to email it to myself, then printing from my desktop computer. Extra time and effort. Used to be able to do so, but programming must have changed weeks ago to prohibit such. Like to print the puzzle to work with. Otherwise, 5 stars.

### 5/5 — A must-read daily for Ohioans

*2021-09-24, version 4.33.13*

The Dispatch, being the newspaper in Ohio’s capital, is an honest source of local, state, and national news and opinion. Anyone who votes must rely on information that is reliable and diverse in dealing with complicated issues. The Dispatch is indispensable in being a well-informed citizen.

### 5/5 — Enjoy the Dispatch...

*2021-09-05, version 4.33.13*

I used to get my news via a paper edition and read electronically. But in March I moved to Columbus, and converted to e-only news via this Columbus Dispatch app. I use a six year old iPad, and was worried it would not handle the app, but it works great. I like the navigation, the layout and the ability to enlarge pictures or text for a faster read. It also works well on my laptop and I can read it on my phone - though a bit more challenging due to the screen size. All in all a very good app.

### 5/5 — App Much Better

*2021-07-11, version 4.33.13*

The app is much more user friendly since they re-formatted it. Easier to read and find what you are looking for.

### 4/5 — Every Morning

*2021-06-25, version 4.33.13*

I like the e-edition of the dispatch. Provides me the convenience of electronic access but a familiar analog format. Even there I get a format that looks analogue but as I select articles the format changes to expand the article and make it easy to read. This is a 4.5 star rating. The Dispatch continues to tweak here and there to improve stability and if you select an article via a cont…page you don’t see the full article, just the part that was put on another e-page. Not a big deal but needs correct. I start my day as I have for many years, opening up the paper on my tablet though instead of reaching for the paper on the front porch. I will say that with the digital subscription I also get access to the mobile application and get breaking news throughout the day. Good value!

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Pushed I liked it by accident.

*2022-07-24, version 4.33.13*

Hate that the “how to use the app” instructions are on the splash screen with the option to never see the splash screen again but those same instructions are nowhere to be found in the app. Additionally, the app seems to consume a lot of battery and offline access to the content seems a bit unstable. Some other buggy stuff. In the end, the app is adequate, but not up to what I expect of an organization this big.

### 1/5 — New format is the Very Bad

*2021-02-13, version 4.32.60*

This new format is absolutely terrible. It is not user friendly. It is not just a step back , it is ten steps back. It appears to me who developed this current format had no idea of what they were doing. The previous format was much better than this new one. I have been getting the on Dispatch on line for over 5 years. If this format isn’t fixed soon, I will mostly like cancel my subscription.

### 1/5 — Another App ‘Upgraded’

*2021-01-24, version 4.32.59*

As typical with American companies, they ‘upgrade’ their app and make it much much worse. I’m sick of this but at the same time no longer surprised.

It’s now almost impossible to change the page. Everywhere you put your finger the article or ad you just touched takes over the screen.

This went from an ok app to a completely horrible impossible to use aggravating app.

### 2/5 — The e-edition app doesn't have the conveniences of the former paper format

*2022-04-18, version 4.33.13*

The e-edition requires the two readers in our household to download the e-app onto two iPads. Our subscription is in my wife's name.

For some reason, I must revert to the older Dispatch app when referring to earlier editions, and I also lose the convenience of the e-edition format.

Later, the old app will ask me if I'd like to try the 'new' e-edition?!?!

I'm using this review to answer that query from you. As your app is the one which froze up forcing me to use the old app to read your fine work, I'd like to know what is going on with the new e-edition app that we cannot use this app in the same manner we used the old real paper edition.

### 2/5 — A big step backward for the Dispatch

*2021-02-10, version 4.32.59*

The prior Dispatch app was time tested and worked for everyone.
The new "improved" app is a disaster. It appears to have been introduced for no reason other than that some administrative wonk wanted a new one. Essentially every change is for the worse. I've literally found nothing that enhances reading or makes navigating the paper easier. Every facet of reading the daily paper is now less convenient and works more poorly. I gave it two stars only because, with increased effort and maddening frustration and with decreased enjoyment, it is, at least, still possible to get from page 1 to the end. This app should make the Dispatch organization hang its collective head in shape -- so stupid!

### 2/5 — Review of the Dispatch

*2021-01-31, version 4.32.59*

Old news is better than no news. Would wish if it would have more late developing news , like the last couple OSU football games. Didn’t have any of the main stats til 2 days later. That seemed to happened after they moved the printing from Columbus to Indianapolis. Plus, not a big fan of the new format! But other than that, 2 thumbs up.

### 3/5 — Could Be Better

*2022-08-27, version 3.6.22*

Love the convenience of being able to read the newspaper on my iPad, but the app could be much better, especially since it is similar, if not identical to, the reader apps used by other Gannett papers across the country. It is quirky at best. It loads the latest edition of the paper inconsistently or sometimes not at all. Navigation within the edition is not particularly smooth or easy, and the buttons are placed in a way that makes it too easy to send the reader to a page or section that is far from the intended destination. It is also very difficult to navigate to associated suburban papers. Overall, the app reflects the same mediocrity that characterizes this and other Gannett publications. Three stars may be generous.

### 3/5 — Too much filler, not enough news.

*2022-07-12, version 4.33.13*

Lots of ads, lots of repeating news, lots of old news. Lots of spelling/ context errors. Where are the editors who are supposed to catch and fix them? I understand that they need to make a profit but printing something on Monday that was news the previous Thursday is not news. Anything over 24 hours old is not news.

### 3/5 — Functional

*2021-06-24, version 4.33.13*

The app does allow me to effectively read the newspaper on my iPad. In the reader mode (that shows a page view on the left and the selected article on the right) there are some odd artifacts in the article. It doesn’t format the article well, which can lead to some confusion at times. Also, it always imbeds any photo or graphic at the end of the article and can treat the caption oddly. Keep improving!

### 4/5 — Dispatch Daily Newspaper

*2023-03-25*

This app is a little clunky in that it updates but asks if you want to update. The news has mostly been on television yesterday or the day before. With the USA Today syndicate, there is news from other parts of the state which is not on television. They also have personal interest stories and ads. The free press keeps politicians honest by always being there and always asking questions.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Easier to maneuver to article. Full display of article

*2023-02-11, version 3.6.22*

is a huge plus. Font and display easier to read Excellent coverage of here and now local news woven with national and international news when appropriate, and with “what can we do about it” articles.

### 5/5 — Love the new Format

*2023-02-03, version 3.6.22*

So easy to read the paper faster, with more clarity. The articles that I want to read I can expand to fit the whole page on my IPad.

### 5/5 — Columbus Dispatch app is reliable

*2023-01-15, version 3.6.22*

I read the Dispatch on the app daily and have never had an issue with a download or navigation through the ‘paper’ - no matter how early I access it. I appreciate being able to read in the format of the printed page which is my chosen option in the app.

### 5/5 — Enjoy the Dispatch

*2023-01-07, version 3.6.22*

I have been reading the Dispatch for over 50 years. I especially have enjoyed the E-Edition as it removes the paper from the equation plus I do not need my cheater glasses to read. Thank you Dispatch for all the great years of service.

### 5/5 — New reading options

*2022-08-26, version 3.6.22*

The app is now much more IPhone friendly. Being able to click on an article and read the entire text in a phone friendly font is a big much needed feature.

### 5/5 — Looks exactly like the print edition.

*2022-07-11, version 4.33.13*

I’m a traditionalist who still likes the look and organization of a print newspaper. To save money - and trees - I only receive the print edition on Sunday. But the rest of the week I can still feel like I’m reading the actual paper.

### 5/5 — Provides a good read

*2022-07-05, version 4.33.13*

Didn’t think I would like this way of reading the paper but I really think it’s good. Seems like I read more articles. Easy to navigate and the price is great.

### 5/5 — Effective

*2022-06-22, version 4.33.13*

This app allows the reader to scan and examine the articles easily. It is way better than the previous ones used by the Dispatch.

### 5/5 — Easy access

*2022-05-17, version 4.33.13*

The Dispatch app is easy to navigate. One feature I really like is having access to ALL the newspapers in the Networks portfolio.
It is very interesting to see what is happening in other cities.

### 5/5 — Columbus Dispatch

*2022-02-28, version 4.33.13*

My husband and I really enjoy receiving the news paper on my phone instead of home delivery which we haven’t had in a long time. We can look back at other issues as needed and enjoy reading the paper instead of having it cause us to get the dark print on our hands.
