There’s no bloat (*cough* Organic Maps *cough*) and the UI is a dream; it’s the perfect balance between simplicity and practicality. The alternative options are worse. I tried half a dozen other OSM apps and they’ve got nothing on CoMaps. Sie ist super leicht und dennoch komplett. Die CarPlay Integration ist für mich auch einer sehr wichtigen Punkt, da ich auf meinem Motorrad Display navigieren kann. Und diese App zeigt mir alles an was ich zur Navigation brauche. Keine Kosten über Mobilfunk :o) Da kann ich nun alle anderen Navi-Apps problemlos löschen, sei es Karten oder Google Maps, „werde ich auch“! A drawing on the map is fine if I just needed to check train stops but useless for anything else. ### 1/5 — Nur ein Streit-Clone. Äußerst bedauerlich *2025-10-18, version 2025.10.16* Update: Die Antwort der Entwickler wirkt reichlich unglaubwürdig. Die erwähnte „Kayak-Geschichte“ ist nun wirklich seit Monaten schon „Schnee von gestern“ und wer wirklich mal sehen will, ob sich Organic Maps oder das hier besser entwickeln, soll einfach mal die jeweiligen Versions-Notizen vergleichen. Bei Organic Maps tut sich viel mehr, die Karten sind aktueller usw. Ich habe hier nach wie vor den äußerst unangenehmen Eindruck, dass mit der CoMaps-App hauptsächlich das Ego der neuen Truppe gepflegt werden soll. Sonst nichts. Kindergarten! Alte Rezension: Anscheinend möchten die CoMaps-Entwickler lieber ihr eigenes Süppchen kochen, statt ihre Energie in das ursprüngliche Projekt Organic Maps einzubringen. Das ist sehr bedauerlich, zumal CoMaps keinesfalls besser und von der Kartendarstellung viel hässlicher ist. Ich lösche deshalb CoMaps wieder und bleibe beim Original. Eine OpenStreetMap-App ist auch genug. Vertragt Euch endlich wieder, ist doch kindisch so etwas! ### 1/5 — Keine Routen für Bus oder Bahn *2025-09-15, version 2025.08.31* Die Routenplanung unterstützt nur Auto, Fahrrad, Fuß und U-Bahn. Nur gibt es in meiner Stadt keine U-Bahn. Helfen würden mir Routen für Bus oder Bahn. Da diese nicht angeboten werden, ist die App für mich leider nahezu komplett nutzlos. ### 1/5 — Won’t search *2025-07-15, version 2025.06.30* It doesn’t seem to provide a location given a complete street address ### 2/5 — Great app *2026-08-30* Great app I love the ability to not use google or apple but I just can’t for the life of me use a map that looks like it is from 1984. The view presented on my car system is terrible. Why would I want my car icon in the centre of my screen with a top down view it is such a bad design. The icon should be at the bottom with a forward perspective view. I don’t always have a destination and use it as a view of what is around me. Fix this and you will have the best mapping/navigation for cars. ### 2/5 — Choix des voix complètement HS *2026-07-21* Les cartes sont détaillées et l’esprit communautaire joue à plein. La navigation par contre c’est… compliqué. Tout d’abord la voix robotique impossible à changer (la sélection effectuée dans l’OS n’est jamais prise en compte), le choix de la langue et de la voix associée est bugé à mort. C’est pas possible que quelqu’un l’ai testé. En l’état on se retrouve avec des instructions qui picotent les oreilles et nous propulse 20 ans en arrière ! En l’état la navigation est pour moi rédhibitoire : je refuse de me taper 500km avec cette voix horrible et sans les instructions la navigation juste avec la carte n’est pas optimale. Je vais garder pour voir comment ça évolue mais en attendant pour la navigation auto/moto je reste sur Waze. À suivre donc… ### 2/5 — まだまだ、使いにくいですね *2026-07-19* やはり、yahooナビ等と比べると全てに於いて追いついてなく日本語の使用が少ないのと次に移行するのにはどうするの？の解りやすさが無いので他のナビに移行したくなるそんな気持ちになってしまう使いにくさが有ります、ルートの検索も1つしか出て来ないのも良く無いです、私の使い方がまだ未だなのかも知れませんがこの状態ですとこのナビに移り難いかも知れませんね ### 2/5 — iPad windowing *2026-05-17* Can you please support multiple windows on iPad ### 2/5 — peux faire beaucoup mieux ! *2026-04-03* Pour un GPS basique, gratuit, ça fait le travail mais avec de gros défauts. En l'utilisant j'ai l'impression de revenir aux anciens premiers GPS grand public du début des années 2000. Je m'explique : Certes la voix de navigation donne les bonnes indications, mais le panneau d'affichage dans l'appli qui affiche les indications par écrit est trop basique. -> les ronds points s'affichent sans donner l'indication de la sortie par une flèche. Il y'a juste un cercle avec 4 traits et c'est tout, il faut se référer à ce qui est indiqué sur la carte. -> sur autoroute ou voie rapide, ça indique le nom de la route sur laquelle on roule, mais pas la sortie qu'il faut prendre (par écrit), c'est trop vague. Donc on ne peut pas utiliser ce GPS en coupant le son. Et si on a mis le son mais qu'on a loupé l'indication orale on ne sait pas quelle voie prendre car ce n'est pas assez précis. Ces points sont vraiment à améliorer, parce que ça rend ce GPS quasi inutilisable à l'heure actuelle. Sinon les cartes, pour du collaboratif c'est très correct. Dommage que tout soit gâché par un logiciel de navigation incomplet et pensé comme ce qui se faisait il y'a 25 ans... Je réessaierais quand tout cela sera corrigé, car je veux bien laisser une chance au produit mais il faut que ça respecte certains critères d'utilisation actuels. ### 2/5 — Wanted to work, but… *2026-02-20* Seems to work ok with a downloaded map. But I can’t actually get the app to create a track of my hike. No help or information on how to get it to work. Got a gpx file to import but couldn’t turn off the displayed data line. Had to delete the file. Instructions are lacking for the app. ## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated) ### 5/5 — einfach und gut *2026-08-30* erstaunlich unscheinbar, erstaunlich gut. Die App ist nicht überladen und konzentriert sich auf das wesentliche. Am Ende steht immer wieder ein Aha Effekt und die Einsicht, dass weniger sehr oft mehr ist . Ich nutze diese App gerne auch unter Linux und Android. ### 5/5 — The best! *2026-08-13* The best open source maps app ### 5/5 — OSM at its best *2026-08-01* Großartige OpenSource-Kartenapp (auch) zur Offline-Nutzung von OpenStreetMaps. Frei von Überwachung und Reklamemüll. Gerade Fuß- und Fahrradwege sind hier besser als bei autozentrierten kommerziellen Anbietern. Wer Karten und die zugehörigen Informationen benötigt und auf Satellitenbilder verzichten kann, wird hier fündig. Daß es notwendig wurde, mit CoMaps einen neuen Fork zu starten, ist bedauerlich aber nachvollziehbar. Hoffentlich belebt dies auch dauerhaft die Weiterentwicklung des Projektes! Was ich an Featurewünschen aktuell noch hätte, wäre eine zuschaltbare Schummerung und eine vernünftige Tachofunktion für den Einsatz am Fahrrad. I’ve used it extensively while hiking, and occasionally while driving to save my phone’s battery. Lots of apps use open source data, but they render it in a closed source app. Not CoMaps. Here, the spirit of open source is followed through, from data to distribution. It makes you download the map data for a region ahead of time, so it doesn’t use your mobile data while you use the app later, as far as I know. Something really nice that I’ve noticed is that while in navigation mode, it’s very light on battery consumption. Other maps apps usually burn through battery quite fast while in navigation mode. ### 5/5 — Amazing App *2026-07-05* This app is amazing it’s foss and works fully offline. I love how data I submit to correct places on the map will remain available in an open source project. The only features that are missing are CarPlay and live traffic data.
