This app is for use in Miami-Dade County. CombatCOVID is the Official COVID-19 notification and information app of the County Government of Miami-Dade County, Florida, a diverse community of over a million and a half people. Unlike other apps, CombatCOVID has never used GPS or location notification in its architecture. The app user’s privacy and identity are protected. No names, emails addresses, locations or personally identifying information is required. There is never any location or identity information acquired by CombatCOVID. The CombatCOVID app uses Bluetooth signals to determine if you are near another user. All users who have been in close proximity to a COVID-19 positive person will be notified by a push notification recommending they get tested immediately, without revealing anyone’s personal identity. Suggested locations for testing are also provided. Your device’s phone number is encrypted and never shared with anyone, including local health officials. All data and Information about the device being in close proximity with another device is ONLY stored on the device. Access to the data indicating the device’s user may have tested positive is only shared IF/WHEN the user chooses to share it. This is a message I constantly get. App does not work, but good concept ### 5/5 — Needs better marketing *2020-12-21* Just downloaded after hearing about it on NPR radio. I was hoping the State of Florida would make use of Apple’s COVID product, but they have not. Hope this app will be downloaded by more people in Miami-Dade. It should be mentioned at event local news broadcast. ### 2/5 — Why Require Phone Number? *2020-12-01, version 1.0.7* If the app is supposed to be completely anonymous why do you require the phone number and to verify it? Doesn’t sound anonymous to me. ### 1/5 — No option to run in background *2020-11-03, version 1.0.6* Since I’ve updated to ios 14.1, there is no option to run in the background. I do not have the Tap for battery saver bar displayed. ### 1/5 — This app is a joke *2020-10-25, version 1.0.5* Why would they pay millions for an app that you have to have open at all times? Apple an Android have offered this and it runs in background at all times and never stops. They don’t even have to make an app for it, they just need to get Florida health department to request that it be activated and setup a verification system for people who want to report that they are positive. ### 1/5 — Useless *2020-10-13, version 1.0.5* Why only this Miami COVid app requires the user to keep the app on? All other apps work in background Who wrote the app? Goofy ? 😂 ### 1/5 — Useless App *2020-10-09, version 1.0.5* This app is absolutely useless unless it uses the Apple Google API. It will not run in the background and you have to activate it. The point of the Apple Google API is to make it a seamless experience in your phone. This was not well thought out and completely useless. ### 4/5 — Could be better *2020-10-03* I get the privacy concerns, but let’s be real. If I am in my car and in Bluetooth range of another driver and we exchange tokens, there is no path for transmission. Yet I could get an alert. Location services needs to be incorporated, so if I see the alert was from an exchange on the palmetto expressway I can ignore it. Second, this needs to work in the background. Maybe there is a technical reason it can’t, but the easier it is to just run it without thinking the better. If it gets disabled and I forget to turn it on, might as well not have it! Same if I’m somewhere using other apps. Might as well not have it. But this is a much needed tool that everyone can use for their safety. Worried about “them” tracking you? Better cancel sunpass! Delete your Facebook! Flush your smart phone down the toilet! And get over yourself, you are NOT important enough to be tracked! Nobody cares about your boring activities! Or mine. ### 1/5 — Good intentions but not practical *2020-10-03* I’ve tried to use this app and have told friends and family about it. Truth is you’ll forget to open it when you’re out and about. Because it doesn’t use apple covid api you need to have the app open all the time for it to register people you’ve been with (they need to have it open too). I don’t get why they didn’t use apples api so that it can do what it needs to do in the background. I also don’t feel the county is doing enough to raise awareness of the app. It should be required to be posted with every “no mask no entry sign”.
