## What is ComicScout?

ComicScout helps comic collectors estimate value before they buy, sell, or add a book to their collection. Scan a comic cover, slab label, marketplace screenshot, or eBay listing URL. ComicScout identifies the issue, checks edition and reprint risk, estimates fair-market value, and gives a clear BUY, WATCH, PASS, or ASK verdict.

What ComicScout does:
• Identifies comic books from photos, slab labels, screenshots, and listing links
• Estimates fair-market value using live listings, licensed price-guide data, and available market signals
• Shows by-grade value guidance when available
• Flags reprints, facsimiles, edition traps, restoration risk, and other details that can change value
• Saves scan history and collection items so you can track books over time
• Lets you use a share extension from Safari on comic listings

Free tier: ComicScout includes 1 free scan per rolling 30-day period.

ComicScout Premium: Premium has no monthly scan quota and unlocks the full deal report. A reasonable server-enforced daily fair-use and abuse-prevention limit applies and resets at 00:00 UTC. Premium includes a 14-day free trial for eligible users, then auto-renews at $6.99/week or $59.99/year through Apple. A one-time 20-scan pack is also available for $4.99 and does not grant Premium.

Subscriptions renew automatically unless canceled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. You can manage or cancel subscriptions in your App Store account settings.

ComicScout is independent and is not affiliated with Marvel, DC, CGC, CBCS, eBay, or PriceCharting. Values are estimates, not guarantees.

### 3/5 — Faulty Link Button

*2026-08-09*

The “Paste EBay Listing” feature barely works, since I’ve downloaded it. I’ve only got it to work properly once, the rest of the time I click it to try and paste a new listing and it automatically throws me out and I try again it tells me I’m going to fast and need to try again later. Mind you, I’m only uploading the books I own at the moment and want accurate pricing because it won’t give you the accurate price unless it has sells data behind it which you can only get by using the home features. It’s a cool app just needs to be fixed in certain areas for it run properly.

**Developer response:** Thanks for the detail. I can't reproduce this on my end, so I'd like to chase it properly rather than guess. If you email support with the eBay link you were pasting when it happened, I'll run it myself and get back to you.

One thing worth correcting meanwhile, since it may be costing you results: ComicScout doesn't need sold data to price a book. It uses a graded price guide and live listings too, so you'll get a value on issues with no recent sales. Sold comps raise the confidence score, they aren't required for a number.

The "going too fast" limit was too tight for adding a stack of books in one sitting. That's already raised, and it took effect without an update.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.5.2 — 2026-08-24

Fixes the plan screen showing the wrong billing frequency for the weekly plan.

### 1.5.1 — 2026-08-23

More accurate values for reprints and facsimiles. Reprints are now priced from actual reprint sales at your book's grade, instead of being estimated from the original printing.

Better comparable sales. We're stricter about what counts as a comp — multi-issue lots, trade paperbacks, later printings and wrong-issue listings no longer skew a book's value.

The free trial is now yours to choose. Subscribe straight away, or switch the trial on first — your call, clearly shown before you're charged.

Clearer billing terms on the plan screen, and optional notifications when a book on your watchlist drops in price.

### 1.5 — 2026-08-18

A rebuilt first run, and real market prices behind every number.

• New onboarding. Three quick questions, then watch a full scan run end to end before you decide anything.
• The edition trap. Two copies of the same issue, one worth $40 and one worth $900, and the detail that separates them.
• Real sold comps. The example scan is now priced against live market data instead of sample figures.
• Your account email is visible in Profile. If you signed in with Hide My Email, you can finally see and copy the address your account uses.
• Report a Problem opens your mail app with your account, plan, build and device already filled in.

Plus sharper typography, clearer pricing, and a faster path from scan to verdict.

### 1.4.2 — 2026-08-12

Stability and performance improvements.

### 1.4.1 — 2026-08-11

Fixed: a new subscription now unlocks immediately instead of occasionally leaving you on the paywall after paying.

New: you can enter a referral code during setup — no more hunting for it in Settings.

Plus accuracy work on sold comps and signed slabs.
