I sometimes set it on my dash and it reminds me of my grandpa's old floating compass in his truck - except with a lot more info. Love the elevation aspect as well. However this is a good little app if you calibrate and pay attention. ### 4/5 — Good L.E.tool. *2012-06-14, version 3.3.8* The combination of compass and reasonably recent satellite mapping is a great tool for our line of work. Great for coordinating perimeters and getting a quick overhead peep at a location you have to deal with. Also very good for rural work and search and rescue. Very good tool to help make sure you make it home at the end of shift. The only downside is the overlay writing which could better stand out and contrast against the background than it is and makes it a little hard to read sometimes. ### 4/5 — Great for directions *2012-05-12, version 3.3.8* This app makes it so easy to explain to people where things are. Calibration does not change anything. This is completely worthless and potentially dangerous if you have to rely on it. **Developer response:** this is the most reliable and precise compass ever among all compasses on the app store. the calibration does work, if you use a proper calibration. have a look at the app manual and at the app videos - when hardware sensor fails like in your case - you should use stars or landmarks for gyro calibration. ### 1/5 — Update Contains Subscription *2021-08-10, version 3.10.5* Updates to a subscription model NOT SHOWN IN THE UPDATE NOTES. BEWARE. **Developer response:** Dear Karen, with all due respect, the app at the time of the update did contain even more functionality that it was before and it still being added with free updates without a need to use a subscription. However, if beyond the provided functionality you would like to use more maps, you have to use a subscription because it is a licensed content that we pay for ourselves. ### 1/5 — Dumb prompt *2015-05-31, version 3.7.9* The prompts that solicit your review are stupid. I bought this app ... and it is my choice whether or not I want to review it. While I was on a jeep trail and needed to get coordinates, I was interrupted by a request to review the app. Why? Prompts were NOT part of the feature list. At least give the option to NEVER ask again if I don't want to review. Since this isn't an option, here is my review. Other than this developer shoving stuff in your face, it's a great app and something I use frequently. ### 1/5 — Will not work on iphone 4 *2014-04-10, version 3.7* First off i used this app alot. But with new update will not work on iphone 4 which is BS. Tried on three differant phones would not work on any of them kept having to restart phone after opening the app. Absolutly dissappionted with new update, if no update in month to fix problem will delete app for good. And I would hate to do that cause i love the app. Want to give this update 0 stars but i won't let me. ### 1/5 — Please use a shorter name *2011-06-09, version 3.3* I know it may seem petty, but abbreviated icon names are a pet peeve. Because the icon name "Commander Compass" is too long, on the home screen, it is automatically abbreviated as "Comma...pass," which looks sloppy. Please use a shorter icon name, at which time I can give the app a higher rating. ### 1/5 — Barely functional *2010-11-13, version 0* Does not hold azimuth bounces around. When asked to name a coordinate will not pull up keyboard. When I came to app store to review it offered me the lite version which I mistook as an upgrade even though I have the full version, and I bought it. Tired of getting burned by crap apps. But hey at least the lite version will give me a keyboard. ### 2/5 — Used to love it - what happened to elevation display? Deleting it. *2023-09-18* All of a sudden, the app no longer shows elevation above sea level. That was an important feature for me, so now it’s not much better than others RFP pass apps I already have. Deleting it. ### 2/5 — Can’t change background color after update *2022-11-13, version 3.15* Wish I had not updated. Background color is stuck on white and can’t change it. I see the instructions say a single finger vertical swipe changes it but that doesn’t work. I can change the other elements by horizontal or diagonal swipe but the background can’t be changed. This used to be a good solid app but this last update stinks. **Developer response:** it does work on local tests. it should be more like a long slide gesture than a short swipe. if it doesn't work - please email support via the support form. ### 2/5 — Iraq *2017-09-07, version 3.9.3* Hello. I love this program, but in fact need to add Arabic language and updates of maps map of Iraq is not exclusively entertained and updated as soon as possible Thanks ### 2/5 — Problems with my iPad case *2012-02-02, version 3.3.6* Due to the magnetic closer on my leather case for the iPad, I have to calibrate every time the app is opened. Even then, I MUST take my iPad out of the case for anything to be close. This isn't really their fault as the iPad is just too sensitive to ANYTHING being close to it. I live in the middle of nowhere in Alabama and I use this great app all the time on my property and my relatives’ and friends’ properties. There are no roads in the woods! Anyone who has updated, are you having any problems? I am so pleased with the app and value it so much, I don’t update until someone lets me know the update doesn’t add bugs. Keep the WiFi ON, with aero plane mode ON. I use it mostly for hunting and it is great for that.
