## What is Commercial Pilot Test Prep?

Sporty's Study Buddy prepares you for the FAA Commercial Pilot knowledge test (the "written") with three ways to study: Study Questions, Flashcards and Practice Tests. Questions are organized by knowledge area, with explanations of the right and wrong answers developed by Sporty's team of Master CFIs, based on their experience preparing students for the Commercial Pilot certificate.

• STUDY QUESTIONS BY TOPIC •

Choose whole knowledge areas or individual topics to build your own study session. As soon as you answer, you'll see the correct answer, why it's right, and where to read more. Change your answer anytime, bookmark questions as you go, and jump to any question from the question list. Every study session is shuffled.

• REVIEW WITH FLASHCARDS •

Flashcards show just the question, so you answer from memory before revealing the correct answer and its explanation. Mark each card Know It or Still Learning, then start a new session from the cards you're still learning. On iPhone Duo, study a card with the phone open and close it to check the answer.

• TAKE PRACTICE TESTS •

Each Practice Test draws 100 questions at random from the full question bank, gives you 2.5 hours, and is graded at the FAA's 70% passing score. Afterward, see your score by topic, review every question or only the ones you missed, and turn your misses into a new study session.

• PICK UP WHERE YOU LEFT OFF •

Sessions save as you go. The History tab lets you resume any session in progress and review past results, including your scores by topic.

• EVERY FIGURE, OFFLINE •

The Figures tab includes the complete FAA Airman Knowledge Testing Supplement for Commercial Pilot, with every figure and legend listed by name and page. Swipe through the pages or open any one full screen. Questions show their figures right alongside, and you can study without a connection.

Designed for iPhone, iPhone Duo and iPad, with Dark Mode and support for larger text sizes.

The FAA does not publish its knowledge test questions, so the questions on your test won't necessarily appear in this app. Study Buddy is meant to complement your training, not to replace flight and ground instruction.

### 1/5 — Commercial student

*2017-03-09*

Took my CAX written today I was really excited because I had studied/prepared a lot using this software. I was consistently getting 90/96/95/92/90 on my practice tests ( I took 1 a day for a week straight) along with spending hours studying every question in flash card and study mode. There wasn't a question in the softwares bank I didn't know or couldn't complete the math to find the answer. I was embarrassed when I went to my testing facility got endorsed by my instructor only to walk into the room and find half to 3/4's of the questions on the test were no where in this softwares bank. I barley passed with a 77 out of 100. Embarrassing!!! Especially after all the hard work and studying I put in utilizing this program. I wouldn't waste my money on this software again I'd definitely go with something else.

### 5/5 — Passed first time

*2017-02-05*

The questions and explanations for right and wrong answers.

### 4/5 — Works great but

*2015-12-23*

I used Study buddy for my private and it was great. This one is too, I just wish part 91 tests were split into two or three tests. 90 questions is a lot if you want to memorize via repetition I think 30 questions would be best

### 1/5 — Buggy

*2015-07-10*

This app would be ok if it didn't crash half the time I opened it.

### 3/5 — Wish it saved

*2014-11-16*

The app works awesome for learning the questions and seeing the diagrams inline. I have enjoyed studying with it. However, it doesn't remember anything so you have to keep up with where you are on your own. Don't bother marking questions either because it will forget them as soon as you leave the section.

### 5/5 — Great way to pass test

*2013-09-06*

Let's be honest the FAA knowledge tests are a complete waste of time. There is nothing in the written test that will make me a safer pilot. So the goal is to pass the written and get onto the flight training. I used the sportys app this way: I selected "Learning Mode". I took the quizzes. If I missed a question, I simply continued to the end of that section. I graded the test. And then I retook the test with any missed questions. I repeated that if necessary until I got 100% correct. And it doesn't take very long. I did this the 3 weeks before the test. It prolly took 5-8 hours, but in small batches of time. 4 days before the test I did this again. Made 78%.

### 1/5 — Commercial test prep

*2013-04-25*

This would be a great app if I could see the map figures on my I Pad. They are very blurred. Magnification does not help.

### 4/5 — Good Prep

*2012-02-22*

Layout and interface are good. Ability to select individual test sections is good. Bad - no way to record progress.

### 1/5 — Buggy app

*2011-06-02*

This app has good questions, but each time I grade a test It show answers i have correct as wrong. Not impressed for the money, better spent on dauntless software

### 3/5 — Not Bad

*2011-05-06*

This app is not bad. It basically contains the test battery from the FAA and allows you to review them in test or "study" mode. I would like to see better explanations for the answers including appropriate references to outside reading in order to brush up on topics that you don't do well on (e.g. "see Airplane Flying Handbook Chapter 4" or " see 14 CFR Part 61.3" etc.). I seem to remember that the Gleim products have this feature and it was very helpful.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

An all-new question bank: 822 questions, organized by the FAA's Commercial Pilot Airman Certification Standards.

Study Buddy has also been completely redesigned.

• Study by topic: choose whole knowledge areas or individual topics, shuffled every session. As soon as you answer, see whether you're right, with the explanation and references. Change your answer anytime.
• Practice Test: 100 questions in 2.5 hours, graded at the FAA's 70% passing score. The clock pauses when you leave the app.
• Flashcards: reveal the answer, then mark each card Know It or Still Learning.
• Results by topic: review every question or only the ones you missed, or turn your misses into a new session.
• History: resume any session where you left off, and see past scores by topic.
• Figures: the whole FAA testing supplement, legends first and then the figures, page by page. Swipe through it, open any page full screen, and use it offline.
• Bookmark questions, and jump to any question from the question list.
• iPhone Duo: study a flashcard with the phone open, then close it to see the answer on the outside.

### 1.6 — 2016-06-23

- Optimized formatting for iPhone 6, iPhone 6+ and iPad Pro
- Bug fixes and stability improvements

### 1.5 — 2014-09-14

- FAA test question updates
- iOS 8 compatibility updates

### 1.4 — 2014-02-19

We've added a new way to view figures when taking a test or studying the questions in one of the other modes. Now when you click Show Figure, you'll have access to every figure in the Commercial Test supplement, not just the one required for the question you're viewing. We also increased the quality of the figures to present them exactly as they're delivered from the FAA.

Additionally we added the question text to the figure viewer to make it easier to answer the questions that require a supplemental figure.

Includes interface updates for iOS 7 several bug fixes.

### 1.3 — 2013-11-20

Version 1.3 brings some exciting new written test prep tracking features.

• Written test prep session results are now stored in a new Progress Reports section of the app, allowing you to go back and review each session in detail, including each question, selected answer and explanation.
• You can now pause a written test prep session and resume it later.
• The entire collection of test prep figures/images is now included in the main Test Prep menu, allowing you to print or email them to yourself right from the app.
