### 5/5 — Indispensable tool

*2026-07-20, version 1.14.2*

I have used this app for years to help guide my kids to appropriate media. There is too much available to manage it on my own. Common sense makes it so much easier!

### 5/5 — Awesome app

*2026-07-19, version 1.14.2*

Super useful to hear reviews before I take my kid to a movie.

### 5/5 — A great resource for parents

*2026-07-03*

We turn to Common Sense Media frequently as a trusted guide for the vast media wilderness. With the app and website we help to our kids make intentional choices of well-told tales, and terrific
non-fiction, that expands their views of the world. Some truly delightful characters, books, movies and podcasts came into our lives because of Common Sense Media and their thoughtful reviews and recommendations.

### 3/5 — Over rated

*2026-06-29, version 1.14.2*

This app while being considered good has a problem with kids maturing and exaggerates about language, drugs, sexual talk, and violence. Kids see stuff like this all the time in school so I feel it is exaggerated. It is also expensive and does not offer enough content for people without a subscription

### 5/5 — Amazing

*2026-06-29, version 1.14.2*

Helps me learn apporite ages for kids

### 5/5 — Definitely 5 stars!

*2026-06-28*

I have used this app for years! Love it for the in-between years when your kids are too old or young for certain things. It’s also hard to keep up on the latest movies & shows so I like it for quick reference. I feel like it’s a donation to a worthy cause.

### 5/5 — Great Resource

*2026-06-22, version 1.14.0*

This app is so helpful in determining appropriate media for your child. I’ve never had any issues with the app itself

### 5/5 — Love this resource

*2026-06-19, version 1.14.0*

Must have app for media recommendations. The reviews add a very balanced view that helps you adjust the recommendation to your child and their unique personality!

### 5/5 — So convenient

*2026-06-12, version 1.13.0*

This app makes it so easy to plan family movie night with my kids

### 5/5 — A stress reliever

*2026-06-04, version 1.13.0*

I feel so empowered by this app. It helps me feel like I’m a knowledgeable, and engaged parent while still trying to juggle all the things of life. Thank you so much for all that you do! This app is a blessing

### 5/5 — I use Common Sense Media every time!

*2026-05-23, version 1.13.0*

As a homeschool mom I go to Common Sense Media app to look up books or movies every time I need a wholesome review for my 9 yr old daughter. It’s my safety net!

### 3/5 — Great app but glitchy

*2026-05-16*

This is a really good app for movie reviews but if the developers see this I can’t sign into my account because of something it always says something went wrong even when I make a new account

### 5/5 — Life saver

*2026-03-23, version 1.12.0*

Love being able to know exactly what to expect from movies and tv shows as far as sex, violence and whether it’s any good.

### 5/5 — Best thing invented

*2026-03-21*

Every parent should have this App

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Should be free

*2026-08-21*

This is a great app for parental and self discretion however, the fact that you only have a limited amount of searches before the app requires a subscription is a complete disappointment. Discretionary data should be available to all viewers for free. Common Sense should be able to supplement funds from ads and sponsors to be able to create a FREE app to aid viewers with an unpaid option that acts as a guide to help us decide for ourselves what is morally right and wrong to watch based on our own moral compass

### 1/5 — liberal

*2026-06-16, version 1.14.0*

Pretty sure they intentionally don't tell you if there is anything LGBTQ in books and movies cuz apparently they decided that we as parents don't have the right to protect our children from that kind of thing.

### 1/5 — Common Sense

*2026-06-15, version 1.14.0*

App is often non-functional. When it’s working it’s great. But list of issues with tech

### 1/5 — A paywall for this kind of app is crazy

*2026-06-01, version 1.13.0*

A paywall for this kind of app is crazy

### 1/5 — Pay Up

*2026-03-10, version 1.11.0*

This is basically a paid app. Unusable without a subscription. The app is nice from what I could tell. Just use IMDB for free…

### 1/5 — Horrible App & Subscription Issues

*2026-03-09, version 1.11.0*

I paid for an annual subscription and the app never recognized the purchase so would never let me have the perks as if I had fhe paid for subscription and I still had to pay for the subscription as I paid for the annual subscription. Just horrible….

### 1/5 — Scam

*2026-01-31, version 1.10.16*

Worked a few weeks now locked out, paid for year

### 1/5 — Logging in

*2025-11-18, version 1.10.14*

Common Sense Media is great, the app continuously requires us to log in changing passwords.

### 1/5 — Have paid for app, but won’t let me use it

*2025-09-27*

Have repeatedly paid for the annual subscription but can’t actually use the app. Great at taking money from me, not great at letting me use the app.

### 1/5 — 3 Reviews

*2025-08-16*

This website use to be completely free. Now it’s three free reviews…a month!

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Great resource for parents

*2026-08-28, version 1.15.0*

We’ve been using common sense for years and it’s a great resource on knowing what’s age appropriate for our kids. Happy to subscribe

### 5/5 — Essential tool for all parents

*2026-08-27, version 1.15.0*

Great tool with details needed to determine what content aligns w your values.

### 5/5 — Informed decision

*2026-08-13*

Takes those awkward moments away from parents and kids or teens. You can check any movie and just know what is coming , what to expect. That’s what I like. I get to decide what we watch . We will watch rated R movies if there is little sex and mostly violence . That’s our decision and I get to make that informed decision because of common sense !

### 5/5 — Worth it

*2026-08-09, version 1.15.0*

With all the options for getting opinions on things I have always found Common Sense to give a balanced and reasonable overview. I subscribe to it because I feel this type of content should be supported.

### 5/5 — The best

*2026-08-09, version 1.15.0*

The best - nothing else to say.

### 5/5 — My go to place

*2026-08-07, version 1.15.0*

I use this quite a bit to check out a show or movie for what kind of language it uses. A great resource.

### 5/5 — Great resource

*2026-08-07, version 1.15.0*

I love this resource, especially as a homeschool mom/teacher, they used to have free memberships for homeschool teachers. I’m not sure if they still do.

### 5/5 — I LOVE U COMMON SENCE😭

*2026-08-07, version 1.15.0*

Love common sense so much brrooo🤍🩵🩷 I love how u can do movies an books.. it helps

### 5/5 — Perfect information

*2026-08-04, version 1.15.0*

Reliable information so I can make an informed judgment calls on what is safe for my kids, without being too snow flaky or too religious. Just unbiased information.

### 5/5 — My go-to app for book parental ratings

*2026-07-27*

I love that the age ratings are based on content, not just reading ability level. ( After all, porn has an average reading level of 6th grade.)

I also love that it’s done by a group of competent human beings; it’s not AI or crowdsourced from students. It makes it more comparable to the ESRB and MPA game and movie ratings.

Add to that the fact that it’s a nonprofit and this is my first choice of parental ratings and content information!
