What makes it terrible is that it always defaults the last location that you ordered from and it doesn’t prompt you to ask check if that’s the right location. Even though I’m literally a block away from one location it let me lets me default to a different location. I have now ordered my coffee. I have now orders ahead to pick up at to the wrong location three times in a month. This never happens with Peet’s or Starbucks and is a major feature flaw ### 2/5 — No Balance tab *2025-05-28, version 1.12.0* They’ve taken away the ability to see what your balance is for some reason. It’s important to bring this feature back ASAP ### 2/5 — Reload only *2025-03-10, version 1.11.2* Couple of things: reload only ($25), reward program is surprisingly unrewarding, and there’s only one out of five times that my order is actually prepared by the store. ### 2/5 — Half baked *2024-10-23, version 1.7.2* If you buy gift cards at the store or online you can’t load them into the app. App only works if you load money directly onto it. Money loaded on the app can’t be used in the stores. App money for mobile orders only. They should connect both systems. ### 1/5 — Terrible App *2024-10-17, version 1.7.2* Been trying to order from the app for the past 2 days and I keep getting an error message. ### 2/5 — Worst experience ever *2024-10-12, version 1.7.2* I placed an order on the app, but nowhere did it say which location I was placing an order to so when I realized it was a location halfway across town, there was no way to cancel my order and so now I am going to get my coffee halfway across town instead of the one outside my front door. What. The. Heck. ### 2/5 — Amazing Coffee, Terrible App *2024-10-06* The coffee is delicious and the customer service is stellar at my local Compass Coffee. However, they don't accept cash except in exact amounts, which should be illegal, in my opinion. The app leaves much to be desired. Can't see your balance until you're checking out. Can't determine the amount of funds you want to add to your account - the minimum is $25, then increases in increments of $25. Thus you always carry a balance. Can't use the app in the store, just for drive-thru or order ahead. This is so Compass can keep your money in perpetuity. Other coffee places let you use up the balance on your account and then add funds from a credit card to complete the transaction. Not Compass. I may just delete the dang app and go to Starbucks. Worse coffee, much more convenience. First, I'll have to try to contact Compass customer service and get my balance refunded. We'll see how that goes. ### 1/5 — App needs enhanced capability *2024-09-30, version 1.7.2* New App capability finally allows for mobile ordering, and ability to track preparation progress. GREAT first step. Now, can you please enable in-store use of the payment feature so I can order from an employee in the store and pay at their register using preloaded dollars I purchased in my mobile account. Seems like you can add dollars through the app but can only spend them when mobile ordering, not when making a store purchase. You’re celebrating 10 years in business, with dozens of locations, so not like you’re still a little mom-n-pop store. Time to catch up with all the others out there selling coffee who offer this digital wallet full capability? It’s not a difficult nor expensive technology to have scanners at registers that hit a barcode on the mobile app and deduct dollars from our customer account. Please expedite this upgrade to get in line with the times. Also I echo many others frustration that I can’t spend my remaining $6 on a $7 coffee and must add $25 at a time.Sems I’ll never be able to zero out my balance. ### 1/5 — Why take orders when store closed? *2024-09-28, version 1.7.2* Placed order via app. Got to store. Big padlock on door. ### 1/5 — Worst app on the planet *2024-09-13* This horrible app lets me download money onto it from my credit card but makes it virtually impossible to use the downloaded money to actually buy anything! It just takes my money and when I go into the store to retrieve my money they tell me I have to write the company to get my money back because signing in at the store doesn’t work with actually accessing the money I downloaded on the app!!! ### 1/5 — Total scam *2024-09-06* This app is a scam and I am honestly curious how it does not violate Apple’s TOS. The minimum amount you can add to your account is $25. If you have less money left in the app than your order you cannot use it. You cannot add custom amounts. And you cannot spend the money in your app in store. So it just stays locked in your app, totally useless. Maybe it is time for a class action lawsuit this cannot be legal. ### 1/5 — Needs features *2024-08-29, version 1.6.0* 1. Need to be able to remove or update payment methods. App keeps re-loading from an old payment method I can’t remove. 2. App should verify store location before submitting order. 3. Users should be able to store favorite orders for quick re-order. ### 1/5 — Borderline scam… *2024-08-09, version 1.5.0* Can only load money in $25 increments. If you have a balance for less than the cost of your purchase the only way to use it is by adding an additional $25. You can essentially never use your full balance because you typically end up with like $4 remaining, which doesn’t buy much with their increased prices. On top of that, you can only use the money you add by placing mobile orders. There is no way to use it for in-store purchases. Point system isn’t very generous either. Overall a job poorly done. ### 1/5 — Does this app actually work? *2024-08-06, version 1.5.0* Just downloaded the app, tried adding my card and it won’t save the information. I wanted to put in an order and have already put all my card information four times, hit save and it’s just not there. What is going on?? ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Omits basic functionality to force customers into holding gift card balances *2025-11-25* The app covers most of the things that you would expect like ordering ahead of time and rewards points. However, it won’t let you simply pay for your order with a credit card. It forces you to load up a Compass gift card balance in preset amounts, which leaves you perpetually with some remaining balance. There is no good faith reason for this. It is simply anti-customer behavior. I strongly suspect they do so in order to take the sum of those forced balances and use it as savings or investment capital to generate some return. Give us the option but don’t force our hand. I want to pay for my coffee straight up. ### 1/5 — Do not use *2025-10-02, version 1.12.0* App holds your money hostage with no way to spend it all and you can only reload in specific denominations - so they literally designed it to rip you off. I do not recommend ever spending money at Compass Coffee, including on the app. ### 1/5 — Auto-Reload Prevents Use *2024-10-23, version 1.7.2* I want to use the app, but the fact that it’s a $25 reload (or any reload at all) to make a purchase is kind of insane. Especially when I can just use Apple Pay on any other app. I don’t even want to go because it’s so annoying and I can just walk to another shop a block away. ### 1/5 — Not very good for viewing history and refunds *2024-10-23* Not a very good app. I’m currently in dispute with this huge company over a cup of coffee. Money was not refunded to my card after they were unable to complete a purchase. There’s no way for me to check transactions that include wallet balance, and I don’t see anywhere that a refund was added to my account. I don’t want to give them another $25 reload until this can be resolved. ### 1/5 — Can’t add gift cards to app *2024-10-19* It would be really great if I could add value from a gift card to my app to use towards advanced orders and earn rewards. It also frustrates me that I like their coffee. The company has some pretty shady labor practices (busting their employees’ attempt to unionize by diluting the hours of long-time employees). The current workforce is bloated and doesn’t know what they’re doing behind the counter. That’s not on the workers, that’s on Compass. ### 1/5 — Deceptive App from Union Busters *2024-10-17* Downloaded the app after receiving a promotional email, was about to checkout and then noticed that the app required a minimum balance of $25! No option to just pay with credit card. A clear ploy for Compass to keep your money regardless of if you use it but at such a high price point (options are $25, $50, $100) this is a ridiculous.
