As was mine. Then I read a review for a different compass app and it said “just make sure your phone case doesn’t have a magnet.” Duh. Sometimes 180° off, sometimes roughly 90° off. The only fix Apple has for it is to wave it in a figure 8 or perhaps shut it down and reopen it. Come on Apple. Turn “Use True North” on and the compass freezes or stops working. Turn it back off and it immediately works again. That completely defeats the purpose of having a True North option in the first place. What’s even more frustrating is that App Store reviews show people have been reporting this exact problem for years, yet Apple still hasn’t fixed it. A compass that can’t reliably switch between magnetic north and true north isn’t much of a compass. If you’re hiking, camping, navigating, or trying to do something as simple as aim solar panels accurately, this bug makes the feature essentially useless. Apple should either fix it or remove the option instead of leaving users to discover it doesn’t work. ### 1/5 — Doesn’t work with iPhone 17 *2026-07-24, version 1.9* The compass doesn’t work for iPhone 17.
