## What is Conscious?

Conscious Spend helps you understand the real-world impact of companies. Search any brand to see an overall grade along with detailed breakdowns across Environmental Impact, Human Impact, and Transparency. Each profile includes green flags and red flags, parent company ownership, company certifications, and recent news so you can stay informed on what's happening right now. You can also explore the sources behind every score, giving you full transparency into how each grade is determined.

Conscious Spend also helps you turn your values into action with Boycotts. Explore organized campaigns around causes like Palestine, Sudan, ICE divestment, and corporate ethics, and see every company involved in one place. Each listing is attributed to the advocacy organization that named it, along with its stated reason and cited sources, so you always know where the information comes from. Discover the everyday brands tied to parent companies on a list, join the boycotts that matter to you, and keep track of them all in My Boycotts. You can also react alongside the community to see how others feel about a brand, and share campaigns to spread the word.

### 1/5 — Paywall

*2026-08-02*

It’s a great idea, but this app is inaccessible to those who want to shop ethically but are unable to afford the $40 annual subscription. This impact of the app could be much higher with a lower subscription fee or if the cost of research/development was offset with ads from companies above a B tier rating.

### 1/5 — Asking to rate before you use the app

*2026-07-26*

It’s not free. Asking the consumer to rate before using the app once, is so unethical considering you have to pay to use the app. This is the world we live in.

### 3/5 — Nice idea, needs work

*2026-07-26*

I like the idea of this app as it is often difficult to make ethical choices. However most of the brands I tried were not available (many were UK based companies, including major banks, energy providers, etc).

The app itself needs work to accommodate accessibility features I have turned on such as ensuring larger text is not cut off (e.g. it needs to word wrap if it goes past a single line, e.g. on the feedback page I couldn’t read a question because it was cut off)

### 2/5 — Ironically Un-Ethical

*2026-07-24*

I love the concept behind the app, but locking it’s features behind a paywall is very disappointing. Shopping ethically should be made as easy and accessible as possible in order to maximize the amount of people participating, and therefore maximizing the potential impact this app could make. Charging to access the services just comes across as a scummy buisness trying to make money off people who want to do the right thing.

### 1/5 — Paywalling information

*2026-07-21*

Just another company look to make a quick buck off of you. If these people truly cared about making the world a better place, they wouldn’t paywall so much info. The problem is they pose their app on social media as a bastion of truth, and a tool to help you be conscious - but it’s not a tool for collective social justice - it’s just another product. At least if I subscribed to a journalist, I’m getting information that’s not publicly and FREELY available.

### 5/5 — Spend intentionally!

*2026-07-21*

This brings a light to unethical companies! Let’s learn and grow together.

### 1/5 — Subscription just to compare brands?

*2026-07-21*

A $60AUD a year charge just to be able to look at more than two brands is already a bit much, but then that charge is also paywalling the ability to find a better replacement for these brands? Seriously???

### 5/5 — Much needed software

*2026-07-18*

If we refuse to fund the monopolies they can’t win 🕺

### 5/5 — Love

*2026-07-16*

Everyone needs to download this! Together we all will make the world a safe and beautiful place for all!

### 2/5 — Why make it so expensive?

*2026-07-14*

If you’re making an ethical spending app, wouldn’t you want as many people using it as possible to stay away from these evil companies? Why add a paid wall that keeps people from divesting? You have great research, but if you truly cared about ethics rather than making a couple bucks, you’d make it free.

**Developer response:** Appreciate this, and it’s feedback we hear a lot, so we’re actively exploring other options right now. One thing worth clearing up though: the core of the app is free. Overall grades, Pillars and our boycott feature are there without paying, so anyone can see which companies to walk away from at no cost. That’s the part that actually drives divesting, and it’s open to everyone.

The subscription funds the research & infrastructure that keeps us running. It also helps us stay independent! That funding is exactly what lets us answer to users instead of the companies we rate.
