Not very useful when a full ROM set can be over 1000 files. Seems odd to have to do this import anyway - why not just use an app folder that’s scanned on launch like so many other apps do? ### 4/5 — Great when it works - would like to see PS1 *2025-06-21, version 1.7.1* I downloaded it hoping to play some of the classic games I have collecting dust in storage and don’t want to dig out. Installed on my Mac and Apple TV, then on the Mac dragged a couple ROM files to the emulator of choice. It went well and I played a few games but the next time I went to load it I got “Download Failed” alongside checking my internet connection. My internet connection was fine so no idea why this happened. I’m troubleshooting again now and some games work while others don’t. Seems pretty random which will load and which won’t. ### 4/5 — A lot of potential *2025-06-06, version 1.7.1* The iCloud experience is seamless. The synchronization between devices is lightning fast. I feel like this is definitely the strongest point of the emulator that the developers should continue to advertise and lean into. For right now, the features are a little bit more sparse, even for me, who’s not a power user. You don’t have to go through any of the weird setup hoops of most emulators, the sound and visuals are spot on, and the interface is excellent. The only problem is importing ROMS. If you try to import more than one or two roms at a time, the app crashes. It can be super tedious to have to navigate to your ROMs folder over and over just to add a single ROM. Auf dem Mac funktioniert es :( ### 1/5 — Doesn’t load roms *2025-01-01, version 1.0* It simply didn’t work, sticking with delta which is free and just works ## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated) ### 5/5 — Importing is a nightmare,please do an update!!! *2026-07-12, version 1.7.1* I’ve been using the simulator for about a few days now when it works it works excellent, but the only problem is importing ROMs into the directory for some reason, even if the Rams are in my own folders on my iPad, it still tries to grab files off of the iCloud server, which makes zero sense because the roms are already saved on my iPad so there is zero reason for it to try to use iCloud also furthermore when I upload more than 10 runs the program can’t seem to handle it and it crashes every time so I have to do one wrong amount of time it runs excellent but importing arms is an absolute nightmare and it’s kind of embarrassing because I’m on an iPad mini with an M1 processor so the specs to add any S games or SNES schemes this is unacceptable behaviour and it should be fixed ### 5/5 — Excellent *2026-01-03, version 1.7.1* Uses iCloud to be free from storing games on iPad . After a few moments the cover art appeared on first the Mac, then the Apple TV. However it is a bit uneven when the roms appear. Many of the SNES ones still have not, even though the Mac says they have been uploaded to the cloud. It keeps the ROMs in iCloud, so you just start up the app on Apple TV, and all your ROMs are there. Too many emulators on the store have build cookie nonsense into them. Truly appreciate this app just doing what it sets out to do. Responsive and friendly development team. Hopes for the future: - More cores - Shaders and scaling options - Save State management - Sort consoles by name or year released (time travel session anyone?) - Custom artwork support (e.g. Homebrew and new games) - Rename games - Gameboy and Gameboy Colour to their own device list - Gameboy (monochrome), support for original colour options - Favourites, ratings and game filters - Search feature - Apple TV controller feels laggy ### 5/5 — Very Promising *2025-03-18* If you’re looking for a solid, all-in-one emulator for your Apple devices, Consoles is an excellent choice. While some alternatives might be more robust in specific areas, Consoles stands out with a feature set that makes it incredibly convenient and versatile. One of its biggest strengths is cloud integration—being able to store my backed-up games in iCloud and access them seamlessly across my iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple TV is a game-changer. Beyond that, I love seeing how much the app improves with each update. I want to see the Master System make a return to consoles, but it’s clear that the developers are committed to refining and expanding its capabilities, making it an even better experience over time. If you’re after a well-designed, multi-console emulator that fits seamlessly into the Apple ecosystem, Consoles is absolutely worth checking out. ### 5/5 — Huge potential here, responsive developers *2025-02-21, version 1.6.1* Even though this is a young product on a young platform, I’m giving it 5 stars because of where I think it’s headed, and knowing that the developers are committed to constant iteration, updates, and features. I feel like retro gaming is a fantastic use case and killer app for AVP, and no one other than Consoles has jumped on it yet. Yes, I suppose you can run RetroArch as a “compatible” iPad app, but it’s nothing like seeing native visionOS app development, and the team behind Consoles seems committed to advancing the AVP version specifically in addition to adding new features and compatible systems. Consoles currently has a very sparse UI, but in a way that’s good; super easy to just launch it and jump into your favorite ROMs. I’m excited to see them continue to iterate on this app and the features they can bring to the visionOS version specifically. Maybe immersive environments, or the ability to place retro TVs and game consoles around your actual living room. (Personal wish list: Odyssey2 support!) ### 5/5 — Fingers crossed the developer keeps iterating *2025-02-05, version 1.5.0* This has made Atari retro gaming on my Vision Pro and AppleTV so much easier than messing with RetroArch, which can be overwhelming. To the developer: keep iterating on this! Sometimes it's having trouble registering the fire button on my Xbox One controller. Also, adding Odyssey2/Vidoopac support would be a dream come true!
