## What is Continuum?

Miss a day. Nothing resets.

Continuum is the habit tracker for consistency, not perfection: one number per habit, the share of days you actually showed up over the last 66. It's free. There's nothing to sign up for and nothing to buy.

THE NUMBER
Streaks are brittle. One bad Tuesday and six weeks read 0, which is usually the day people quit. I built this app around streaks for a year, freezes included, and it was the wrong number to put in front of anyone who was mostly doing fine — the person who misses one Tuesday in six weeks is exactly the one a reset loses. Here a missed day is a dip: a point or two once a habit is a couple of months old, more while it's new. Show up tomorrow and it climbs back.

The count starts on your first day. A habit you began last week isn't scored against the weeks before it existed.

GETTING MORE CONSISTENT
Every number has a triangle beside it: how far it moved this week. The stats screen draws your last 12 weeks as bars, one per week, so you can see whether you're getting better — which matters more than whether you're perfect, because almost nobody is.

NEVER MISS TWICE
It's James Clear's rule. Missing once is normal; the trick is not letting one miss turn into two. With reminders on, a missed day gets one quiet nudge the next evening. Mark it and the card says you're back on it.

66 DAYS, MOST OF THEM
In a UCL study (Lally et al., 2010), daily habits took a median of 66 days to become automatic — 18 for some people, 254 for others — and one missed day didn't materially slow it down. A 2024 review of 20 studies says to plan on two to five months. So a habit here is formed after 66 days with at least 80% of them done. The 80% is my line for "most days"; neither paper sets one.

THE GRID
Every habit gets a 66-day grid, one square per day. Your number is exactly the filled squares over the squares so far.

MARKING DONE
Press and hold. Haptics build under your thumb and release when the day registers (hard to do by accident). Forgot yesterday? Tap once, then hold.

WIDGETS
Home screen and lock screen, percentage included. On the home screen, mark a habit done without opening the app.

THE REST
A year heatmap per habit. Share cards. iCloud sync across your devices. Dark, monospaced, deliberately plain.

There's no social feed, and nothing resets.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 3.8.1 — 2026-10-13

The old icon is back. It's the one with the missing square in the second row, which I swapped out for 3.8 thinking the bottom corner read cleaner, and then missed within a week.

Settings has a Send Feedback row now. Two weeks after your first habit, the app also asks once how it's going. I read every reply. Honestly, I don't know what most of you think of Continuum — that's the gap this closes.

The app now sends a few anonymous signals too: whether setup got finished, and whether you come back. A random ID. Never your habits (the privacy policy lists every signal). Turn it off in Settings → Share Anonymous Usage.

### 3.8 — 2026-10-06

Continuum runs on one number now. Your consistency — the share of the last 66 days you showed up — sits on every card as a small readout. The triangle beside it is this week's move. The home screen pools every habit into one figure.

I built this app around streaks for a year, freezes included. That was the wrong number. A streak turns one bad day into zero; consistency turns it into a dip. Freezes are gone. So is the 8pm "streak ends at midnight" alert, replaced by a single nudge on the evening after a miss. Never miss twice.

Color follows the grid. A habit starts coral red and turns blue as its 66 days fill — a week-old habit at 100% is still coral, because blue takes time as well as showing up.

A habit is formed after 66 days with at least 80% of them done. Sixty-six is the median it took people in a UCL study for a daily habit to become automatic, and one missed day didn't materially slow it down. The 80% is my line; the study doesn't set one. Already there? It's formed the next time you mark it done.

New habits don't start near zero any more: the number counts from your first day, so 20 days out of 20 reads 100% (it used to read 30%).

The stats screen shows your last 12 weeks as bars. Watch them climb.

### 3.7 — 2026-09-26

Miss a day and your streak survives now. One missed day a week is forgiven; two in a row still breaks it, so the number still means something. Old streaks that a single miss broke are back.

Forgot yesterday? Tap a habit once, then hold.

Completed habits catch the light as you tilt your phone. Small things, mostly: the border traces itself while you hold, the grid ripples when a day lands, and your last habit of the day plays a low chord that took me far too long to tune. The greeting header is gone (less to read, more grid).

The completion sound is softer too. The old two-tone beep sounded glitchy — I should have caught that sooner.

### 3.6 — 2026-09-24

Small release. Continuum now asks what you think of it after a week, rather than waiting for a 21-day streak almost nobody reaches.

### 3.5 — 2026-09-22

Reminders now know your streak. A 40-day streak no longer gets told to start at day one, and checking a habit off from the widget silences that day's reminders.

Milestones celebrate inside the habit card instead of taking over the screen.

iCloud sync now merges day by day, so completing Monday on your phone and Tuesday on your iPad keeps both.

The widget shows your streak correctly again.

Holding to complete has real texture now — the card builds under your thumb.
