## What is Control‎?

The simplest and fastest way to control media playback, volume, and more on your Mac. Control connects directly over your local network, so you never have to install or run a companion app.

【NEW】Control any app, video, or website with Keyboard controls. Re-arrange your keypad and add the commands (and shortcuts!) that are useful to you.

Additionally, Control always supports system-level volume controls and *direct* playback controls for the following apps:
• TV.app
• Music.app
• QuickTime Player
• VLC
• IINA
• mpv
• Spotify
• Safari (experimental)

No subscriptions, no payments, no ads, no tracking. Control is privacy-first and doesn't collect any data. It connects directly across your local network, so your information never even touches the internet.

Need more Control? Send a request anytime. I'd love to make the app as useful as possible.

Note: Control’s connection to your Mac is managed via built-in macOS permissions. Once accepted, Control will work forever with no additional setup. It requires being on the same network and enabling Remote Access. Some VPN clients may interfere, depending on settings.

Powered by AppleScript.

### 5/5 — Safari Web Media control finally here!

*2026-07-31*

I want to give a huge shout-out to the developer. I decided to download this app one day when I asked Gemini for a native iPhone app that could control my Mac while playing media on the web. At the time, there was nothing native to Apple; everything required a third-party download, which I did not like.

Thankfully, Gemini recommended this app and I tried it. Unfortunately, Safari was not supported at the beginning. However, I want to give a big shout-out to the developer for being very responsive to my review and adding a new update to control media playing on Safari rather than just apps on the Mac.

I tested it with a video playing on the web and it worked. I do want to note, though, that it is currently pretty limited. I am only able to use the arrow keys and the spacebar to pause or move forward and back on the video.

I wish there was something like mouse control and volume control, but honestly, this will do. For reference, I am comparing this app to Unified Remote, which I currently use, but that requires a third-party app downloaded on the Mac. Thank you Ryan!

**Developer response:** Thanks for the positive review despite it not working as you'd hoped. I'm just seeing this now, but if you're interested, I'd love to know more about what you were trying to get working in Safari. Feel free to reach out via the support/feedback buttons in app, or at console-orbit1a@icloud.com.

Best,
Ryan

Update 07/26 - Thanks for the details. If you’re ever interested in trying again, I’ve just released an update that features universal keyboard-based controls. So anything in Safari that you could control with a keyboard, you can now control from afar with Control. It works on most websites/videos I’ve tried. Cheers, Ryan.

### 5/5 — If only Safari was Supported!

*2026-07-05*

Found this app via Gemini recommendation. I was looking for an app that can control my Mac's media, but all other remote control apps require a server app to be downloaded on my Mac. This seems to be the only app that only requires an iPhone download and some permissions access, and then you're ready to go. However, the only issue is Safari is experimental and it appeared not to work for me. So, I wasn't really able to use this app too much. Hopefully, in the future, there are better updates.

Response to Ryan:

Hi Ryan, I don't have this app currently since many of the apps can be controlled using my Smart TV remote.

The reason I want to use Safari is to be able to watch media specifically on a web browser. I would like to access movie websites that do not have a dedicated app on my Smart TV.
