Surprisingly fun and interesting to progress. Was skeptical at first as developer was from China since most Chinese games are those dudes trying to imagine themselves as emperor with a bunch of women. In conclusion, you should try this game out and it’s really fun! ### 5/5 — Wasting of time *2023-07-13* I thought this’s an idle game so it would progress without much of attention. This is true at the early game but it became worse over time. This game requests user (not even player because it’s not playable) to keep tapping over time to get unique items and ingredients to level. The money from idle will no longer be the only requirement to level up. You will find spending so much time on tapping once awhile to build the restaurant and menu is a such painful experience. The previous versions still allow users to keep watching ads for diamonds to exchange items. Every ads (lesser than a minute) gets 10 diamonds. However, the latest version no longer work in this way. Only in exchange with money but require cool-down time in between ads. To level up to first level with prize of 100 diamonds requires 600 times of ads watching!!! This is madness. And this is only for the first level! Regret spent so much time on this game. ### 5/5 — Review *2023-07-13* It’s been awhile since i am actually hooked up with a game! This game is very innovative and fun. However, there are some suggestions for this game which i hoped can be further important and enhanced. I noticed that the employees uniform cannot be changed when i clicked on it, it prompted me to shop. But I can’t seems to buy those uniform too. Also, i would suggest if accounts can be created so our game data can be saved due to changing of phone… I don’t want to restart the game all over again. Furthermore, i hope the business can be further expanded to few more branches or adding of tables to attend to more variety of customers and also allowing us to connect with our friends through the linked account. ### 5/5 — Great Game! *2023-07-13* Fun game to play with good progress. But after the update, there are Chinese words in the storage area even though english language was chosen. And you can’t see the level of the ingredient which is quite confusing. The customers should be going to the cashiering area too, so the tables can be cleared faster. Also, the calculations of the profit doesn’t reflect accurately when we accept it. But overall, still a nice game to play! ### 5/5 — Best hotpot game *2023-07-13* This engaging game is great for killing time. There’s always something happening so your fingers won’t get idle. The illustrations are detailed and well-drawn. The layout is optimised for mobile and very intuitive. The game features an impressive ingredients menu of almost 500 items. Along the way there are interesting dialogues, endearing conversation highlights and surprise requests that add new dimensions to the game. You don’t need to pay to play this game and there are no annoying ad popups. However, as you advance through the levels, items do get exponentially more expensive and you can choose to watch ads in return for gems that are exchangeable for in-game dollars. The game gets repetitive after a while, there is no storyline or greater purpose other than to keep expanding your restaurant and unlock new dishes and employees. However, the game’s overall attention-to-detail still makes it a pleasure to play and kill time. My only gripe is that the restaurant processes are pretty much fully automated by the staff — EXCEPT the dishwashing that isn’t taken care of by any employee so the activity chain gets choked up if you forgot to wash the dishes manually. ### 5/5 — Broken without free gold *2023-07-08* Was enjoying this game. It is very grindy for those who enjoy that kind of thing unless you spend money on gold. Gold is hard to come by in the game but a lot is need for up grading equipment and food. Up until recently you could get about 11 gold a day doing the 3 daily challenges and watching 8 ads for free gold. For completing the 3 daily challenges you would also get a free spin on “the deal wheel” which offers various prize including more gold. Recently the ads have stopped resetting everyday so I cannot get the 8 free gold the ads provide. Also one of the daily challenges is typically to watch ads for gold so this challenge cannot be completed. So now I’m left with only 2 gold a day and no free spin on deal wheel. Typically items are relatively inexpensive to upgrade early on. However to upgrade to higher levels even spending 10 gold to do so get expensive when you only get 2 gold a day. When I got 11 gold a day it took a long time to save up enough to get items upgraded so you could advance the game. Now it take way to long. I have contacted customer care and they have told me have no control over if ads are available to me. The ads are controlled by a third party. But ads still pop up between games which is normal but ads won’t reset for free gold. And one daily challenge is usually to watch ads so can’t complete that for free spin. It would not surprise me if this issue was unique to me but the game is not playable in this condition. ### 5/5 — Rip off *2023-07-08* Rip off This game was fun when I first started playing but now I see it’s just a rip off. They make it to where you have to purchase gems in order to pass a round. They stop the customers from coming when you have lots of time left to get the stars you need to pass the level. I also purchased the 300 gem pack and never received them but was charged for them. I will be deleting this game. ### 5/5 — Fun for a while *2023-07-08* I used to really enjoy this game but there are so many bugs. I reached level 178 and have all upgrades, and I will play a round perfectly and still not get close to the number of coins required to pass the level. The game glitches a lot and sometimes I will serve a dish and not get coins for it. It is a fun concept, but it is not fun to be stuck on an impossible level. ### 5/5 — Awesome game to play but it has it's glitches and bugs *2023-07-08* I play on my Mac Book Pro and i CANNOT purchase coins or diamonds once i've purchased them in the past. I keep getting a message saing "In-app already purchased." Maybe make it eaiser to play on Mac and easier to connect your saved game. Also itd be easier to pass levels on Mac if we had a bit more time. Its still fun though! ### 5/5 — Unfair *2023-07-08* This game is fun to play however, they make it impossible to pass levels due to in game purchasing that has to be done. I have experienced many levels where I have had 56 seconds left to complete task and customers stop coming. But the. When you fail you have to use jewels to add 30 seconds or 3 more customers. This is unfair to the customer to MAKE us purchase when we are able to complete levels without of giving the amount of customers before the time runs out. I can’t stand what I feel like is a scam!! Do better!! ### 5/5 — Really Want To Keep Playing But Can't *2023-07-08* I was really enjoying this game until Level 51 (in only the third restaurant out of many), which is impossible for me to complete because I have only been able to afford one upgrade for the bakery. I'm not even close to being able to afford the next upgrade somehow even though I have gotten 3 stars on every level of the first 2 restaurants. I've read in other reviews that there is a glitch where you don't get the amount of money you should and that must be happening to me. I wish I could keep playing because it was very fun. ### 5/5 — Great fun ... at first *2023-07-08* It was a lot of fun to play for a while. However, I'm at the key levels at Chinese Noodles, and most of them are impossible to pass. My restaurant is fully upgraded (I played quite a while to earn enough coins to pay for every single available upgrade), and I've played these levels several times through. Even with all the upgrades and perfect rounds, I don't earn enough for the 3 stars necessary to get the key on most of these levels. That means I can't advance to the next restaurant, so the "reward" that makes people keep playing games is completely out of reach. I guess I'm off to find a different game. ### 5/5 — New "Update" is Terrible *2023-07-08* After playing for nearly 400 levels, I will be forced to give up. Where the extra games for level upgrades used to yield 3 bonus extras, now there is only one. So far, I've only been offered a coin - no speed or "no burned food" upgrades have been available. It also costs 50 hearts to buy an extra round, instead of 10. I haven't seen a level in ages that can be beaten without max upgrades, either. Now I'm forced to habitually buy upgrades to finish levels or quit. It's been a good run, but it's over unless I can finish a level in a couple days. ### 5/5 — At an impossible level... *2023-07-08* I absolutely love this game. Pretty proud of myself for only spending $5 and I am at level 230! However, I need 3 starts on level 218 and it is absolutely impossible to beat. I have ever powerup on and have upgraded many of the items so I get more money for each, but no matter how fast I play or how well, I can not get 3 stars on level 218. Quite frustrating, as this is the only thing holding me back from the next restuarant. Overall though, I do highly enjoy this game and it really passes time! ### 5/5 — i thing ... *2023-07-07* have fun today ### 5/5 — Comfort Food *2023-07-02* I started playing this game because I really like food, and I like clicker games, and this felt like something unique I hadn’t encountered for. It absolutely was. It was MUCH shorter than I was expecting, and now I regret rushing through it because I thought there would be more coming. But out of all of the mobile games I’ve played, this has by far had the most emotional story, as well as very compelling twists and character arcs. I did not expect to become as invested in these characters stories as I did, and I started spending real-life days planning on how to get their full story and make them all the food they liked. The last few stories I completely were completely heart wrenching in good ways. I cried like a baby. Also, as someone who is not Japanese and has never lived in Japan, getting a little insight into Showa era cuisine & culture was very enlightening. It was interesting to see the transitioning between “old” and “modern”, and how staying connected to tradition can be a source of healing. I feel like I’m able to appreciate a little bit more of the Japanese identity because of this. Even though I’ve finished the story, I do plan to keep playing the game. Now that the sadness from some of their stories is passing, I know that I will be able to spend some time making virtual food and feeling comforted by the familiarity of it. I want to thank everyone on the development team for making this game. ### 5/5 — Actually Super Fun! But, Please add more upgrades *2023-07-02* This game is so fun! Usually I get bored easily and lose interest but interacting with the customers makes it intriguing. All of the food you cook for your customers is cooked with love and meaning. You’ll learn more about what I mean once you interact with your customers, especially Slick :( and most importantly, the main character: Grandma!!! such a beautiful ending, it rubs my heart strings just thinking about it. The concept of this game is so simple, yet I’ve never seen a game like this before. Other games, if there is dialogue, feels so forced. This game honestly just feels so real and many of the customers are relatable. I finished the game within 5 hours, in terms of the storyline, so I wish the game would be updated with new upgrades (such as more counter top space) or have more customers added. It’s pretty easy to finish, but even if there isn’t any added, I’ll still play because this game is so cute and I haven’t unlocked all of the menu items yet. ### 5/5 — Wonderful storytelling *2023-07-02* I played this game for a few weeks, constantly making dishes and upgrading my diner for the customers. Along the way, I grew very fond of the characters who had stories. The lady with the red dress who wished to become a better mother, the gangster dude who left, the schoolgirl who wished to grow up into a nice lady. Viewing all of their tanabata wishes was truly something enjoyable. All the characters were interesting to read. At first, I thought the doctor character was just another person who enjoyed eating, but at the end, I read the reason why and it surprised me a fair amount. Most of all, I enjoyed the storyline between the grandma and her husband. It was like any other elderly couple I’ve seen; always bickering. However, for some reason, seeing that they have always loved and cared for each other made me tear up, actually. The simple art style and gameplay was an easy way to relax. I also enjoyed the music paired with the game, it was calm and relaxing. I’m excited to play the next one! ### 5/5 — Poignant Story Hidden Inside a Cookingfood *2023-07-02* I’ve played a bunch of cooking games where you tap the screen to make food and serve the customer. This game is really a poignant story taking place in Japan some years after World War II. You play the role of an elderly woman who has to take care of the family diner after your husband is no longer able to due to an accident. Don’t let her looks fool you, this lady is feisty, sharp, and doesn’t bite her tongue. What you get is a storyline unfolding through dialogue with your customers and your husband. This is less of a game and more of an interactive story where you have to level up dishes to have the story unfold. The best thing about this game is that it is absolutely free. You don’t have to buy anything nor is it one of those cash grab games where you do have to buy stupid coins or diamonds or whatever to move along at a good pace. Playing this game to the end was highly rewarding and really shows how video games can tell a narrative in ways other media cannot. As a book lover, I appreciate how games can add to storytelling. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 3/5 — Best app for ND meal planning *2023-05-31* If you have ADHD and struggle with meal planning, or if you just have trouble with meal planning in general, I highly recommend this app. I’ve used other fitness apps mealplanners and whatnot but this is the best one. Features that work well: the search feature can help you narrow down recipes, you can add recipes directly to an online grocery cart that you can then check out (I use Walmart but I think there are other stores as well), and you can adjust the portions depending on how many people you are serving. Downside: check your final orders because sometimes if a little of an ingredient was required for a few recipes you will end up with a pound of fresh ginger and cilantro. Speaking from experience. Requested upgrade: if tasty would offer a weekly meal planning tab in addition to the digital recipe saving option, this would be a perfect app. Then I could just access the recipes I needed for the week instead of trying to remember what I was planning on making for the week ### 3/5 — Yeahh9648441 *2023-05-30* I have played lots of cooking games. Overall I like this game a lot **Developer response:** thank you for being so thorough and thoughtful in your response! ### 5/5 — Food Disappearing Quickly But Coins Not Adding Up. *2023-07-20* Ok so I love this game and my literal only complaint is that I will spend DAYS with my door blocked accumulating food. And I mean I’ve gone a full week several times not opening my door. And when I feel the food has accumulated enough, I will open the door. But go back into the game within the same hour and all or most of the food be gone but not having received the money I should’ve received for the amount of food that is no longer there. I’ve done this a lot of times and this last time (kept door closed 3 days. 25 counters all with thousands or tens of thousands of servings each. There was 2 or 3 that only had a couple hundred. Before I opened the door I added up all the servings on each counter and it came out to be exactly 113, 692 total). I screen recorded me checking each counter with how many servings each had. This was at 2:04pm EST. At 2:47pm EST I went back into the restaurant to see over half my counters empty but roughly only 150k increase in my earnings. I know different foods cost different prices but there’s no way that adds up the way it should. I have the screen recordings for both when I checked before opening the door, including the date and time as well as when I went back to check 43 minutes later also including date and time. Idk if it’s a bug or what but it happens often and I think it needs to be fixed. ### 5/5 — Oddly fun but time consuming *2023-07-20* I have been playing for years and, despite the fact that I hit the max level years ago, I’m still enjoying adding friends, communicating with them and making food. I do find the tasks have been really hard to finish without using money. They are doable—if you play constantly, which I don’t. I play about 5 times a week, which is quite a bit and rarely get to the second appliance. I’d love to be able to click a button and clear all my tables which would be a huge timesaver. I’d also like to be able to finish tasks more often (maybe fewer items to cook?) Or make it easier to get the appliance in the first place. I have a lot of friends but my gifts are often full so it takes days to finish the appliance. I figure I need about 5 to get to the second appliance. Thanks for highlighting the items, too. Maybe you could have tabs for stoves, grills and ovens so it’s a little easier to find them? I do enjoy this game but find myself having to take breaks because it is so time-consuming. It’s not like those other dash games out there, which can get quite crazy. Even the frenzy that occurs occasionally just adds that extra dash of adrenaline to the otherwise easy going pace. More importantly, play it for the storylines. Every customer attached to the diner has a story, and every story touches your heart. I literally cried by the last, even though I sort of guessed it was coming. One of the best games ever. The gameplay is really simple, there’s no need to pay for tokens or anything of that sort, and it has a really wholesome theme going on. Even after I’d completed the game, I still find myself going back to make food for the diners. I genuinely miss the conversations with the customers and although the endings are great, I wish there was an update of some sort to be able to continue interacting with them and hearing their stories. It’s a beautiful game that encourages you to progress slowly, conversations with patrons open up, relationships are forged, familial bonds are being reflected on, and in the end, food becomes a way to trigger remembrance and reflection and to dispense care and kindle closeness. A beautiful game that’s not just about serving the customers as fast as possible or reaping the highest score, the motivation here lies in working towards unraveling the narrative - a bittersweet and tender story. But this one is so good! Honestly, the ending just made me cry. I hope the developer keeps making more games like this. The storyline is really heartwarming. I kept playing because I was really curious about all of the characters’ stories and also Grandma’s story. Really tugs at your heartstrings. A huge step up from the developer’s previous games like Showa’s Candy shop, which kind of got boring after a while. Love it! Only bad thing I can say is.. I wish the game didn’t have to end! It was too good! But I suppose it has to have an ending to the storyline and characters somehow. - energy replenishes quite fast, doesn’t take long at all. Which is fantastic! - money is easy to earn so upgrades are quite easy to get once you’ve unlocked a number of recipes it makes money come in faster - simple but not at all boring - the unlocking of recipes and levelling them up gives you motivation to keep playing because you need to unlock certain recipes to unlock parts of different character’s stories. - ads aren’t annoyingly popping up all the time - does not require you to pay or buy anything to make the game playable or easy - each storyline was intriguing and heartwarming - graphics are so cute!
