I will take both pads to an authorized Apple tech. Perhaps my treasured writings will be mine again. But really, folks, Cool Writer is da bomb! Nobody in California ### 4/5 — Crashing in iOS13 *2019-09-27* App will open and can access list of docs but when trying to open a doc it crashes. Also unable to use iOS13 Shortcut with app as only a very fleeting glimpse of authorisation ‘screen’ before an overlay of several colours appears ?? ### 4/5 — Finally an app with line Numbers....love this.... *2018-02-11, version 5.6* I really enjoy the option to have these line numbers, it helps me to keep track of my editing. THAT IS AWESOME. YOU CANNOT FIND THIS OPTION IN ANY APP, AT LEAST I COULD‘NT FIND ANY. The search option for words is very helpful to. I also enjoying the paper variety. The only reason I do not give 5 stars is that the multitasking for the latest iOS version is not working or available yet. It has a pretty UI and linked easily and quickly with my Dropbox account. Well done and keep up the good work. ### 5/5 — More than excellent, very useful, easy filing system *2015-06-17* This is an excellent program and I have referred it onto many of my friends. High quality lecture note taker with rtf files for bold, underline and fonts.. + convert to PDF for emails. This is my main program for course notes and lecture dictation. ### 2/5 — Not thrilled *2015-05-29, version 5.2* I was looking for an application where I could talk and it can type, just because it's quicker for me and I like that feature on the Apple products, but anytime you click the speaker and start talking, the application shuts down completely and God for bid you have any work you wrote, it's all down the drain. I started noticing that many apps closed down whenever you try to use the microphone and it's really annoying because what's the point of spending three dollars on something when you can't even use it. That was the whole purpose of buying this app, or they at least should have given you the option of trialing it. ### 5/5 — Love this editor! *2015-04-05, version 5.2* This is a great editor! I use it on my iPad 2 with a Zagg keyboard case and it's great! I really like that it can be as simple or as feature rich as I want it. That's great for writing original works like long fiction pieces. Backing up to DropBox or iCloud and being able to share over popular methods is super useful, too. In an iOS environment, your options can be very limited if your app can't access these kinds of functions. I'd like to see the ability to add terms to the built in dictionary and an undo function. Search and replace, and automatic substitutions would be nice, but I can live without them when writing a draft and re-edit in a bigger work processor later if need be. This app was amazing but with new iOS update the app opens for like 10 seconds then crashes,!!! I paid for the full version and loved it for years now there’s no update and the app won’t open with all my info!!!!! I didn't, and I lost 30 pages of my book. All irreplaceable. I emailed them about it, asking if there was anything I could do, and was completely ignored. I'm deleting it, and I'll buy a program now. Unusable. ### 1/5 — If its cloud storage worked it might be OK *2014-10-04* This simply does not work with Dropbox or iCloud on either of my two iPod 4g's. I have tried installing / uninstalling, unlinking and re-linking both Dropbox & iCloud, have reset and hard reset the iPods. I have emailed the author, and got a rapid reply, but nothing helpful. I paid full price. The only way to transfer a file from one device to another is by email. I have given up trying and have deleted it. Another VERY annoying bug is the App appears to cause the prompt for me to input the Apple ID password very frequently. This has happened on both iPods twice. I can only correct the problem by deleting the iCloud account, then re-linking the device. The bug appears soon after installing the App. Deleting the App does not correct the problem. I have to go to Settings>iCloud>Delete Account to correct the sitiuation. ## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated) ### 5/5 — Love it! *2018-08-28, version 5.6* I had this app for a longtime. I love this app and I have so many devices that this app is used on. My 5 kids even use this app on their devices. I tried other writing apps, but none came to close to this. This is the best writing app. I absolutely love it. ### 5/5 — Boo Hoo *2018-01-14, version 5.2* I've used Cool Writer quite happily for almost as long as I've had my iPad Mini. Evidently a recent update no longer supports my "vintage" iPad even though I do have the latest iOS version. I'm really bummed to lose a favorite app, but I don't plan to buy a new iPad just for one of my many apps. Bye bye. ### 5/5 — Best Text Editor for iOS *2017-11-10, version 5.5* Update: iOS 11 version made my text garbled, but I fixed by resetting the line height. Hope it helps anyone not to panic about data loss. CoolWriter is currently the best text editor for iOS, and I've been through a lot. Great alternative to the quite limited built-in Notes app. I love all the customization options and the fact I can save to my phone or run a web server with a click and host to any computer to transfer files without iTunes or Dropbox. Special sync software isn't always available but a simple web browser usually is, making this a great way to grab your files. Custom toolbars, fonts, margins, colors, and line height make it easy to read and write. A lot of apps lack the ability to set global typographic settings like this; the closest I found was WriteRoom but that seems to have been abandoned. There are a few bugs with CoolWriter regarding autocorrect when deleting, but I contacted the developer who was friendly and quick to reply. He noted he was aware of the issues and was working on them. I use this app daily and while other reviewers are right that it lacks UX polish in places, it's hard to be beat for on the go note taking on iPhone. ### 5/5 — PLEASE UPDATE! *2017-11-01, version 5.5* I Love this app one of my favs. I Literally get lost for hours in it writing! Most of my work involves research so something that gives a reliable and effective results day in and day out is worth its weight in gold! But what am I saying? Having used this app for over two years and yes there has been the odd issue, quickly resolved very efficient! Perhaps it's time for the next step? Would be useful if I could transfer my research data into a table, after all, expanding the platform would make an inclusive tool and invite more users to use this handy, reliable, useful and COOL app. Thanks guy's you're doing a great job! ### 5/5 — Best way I've found to sync w/Scrivener *2015-07-15, version 5.2* I use this with Scrivener on my Mac and it's the best so far - and the fourth way I have tried to accomplish an easy workflow. I don't mind that it doesn't sync the synopses. I don't even care about a fancy special background. All I wanted was italics and Palatino 14 and my chapter order to stay logical, without too much hassle when I wanted to sync. It cost me $0.99 to do unlimited RTF editing via Dropbox, but what it has saved me in terms of italicizing headaches, font fixing, title fixing (lookin' at you SimpleNote), re-stacking (IndexCard users feeling me here), or a 16-part syncing process to get around any of the previous issues was worth that $1. Whatever I do on my iPad now automatically syncs, and when I do something on my Mac, just 2 clicks and I'm ready to work on any of my files remotely via Sync w/ External Folder to Dropbox.
