## What is Cordwise?

Cordwise is the offline companion for anyone who heats with wood. Whether you buy firewood, sell it, or cut your own, Cordwise helps you get a fair deal, burn the best wood, and stay ahead of winter - all without an account, ads, or an internet connection.

DID YOU GET A FULL CORD - OR GET SHORTED?
The most common firewood scam is selling a "cord" that's really a face cord (as little as a third of a full cord) or a loosely thrown pile. Stack your delivery, punch in the length, height, and depth, and Cordwise instantly tells you how many real cords you received, names the size, and flags whether the measure is fair or short. Enter the price and it shows your true cost per cord - the only honest way to compare sellers.

KNOW YOUR WOOD
Browse 41 common North American firewood species ranked by heat output, with the figures that matter: million BTU per cord, green and seasoned weight, coaling quality, smoke, sparks, splitting ease, and seasoning time. Compare any two woods side by side, and see what a cord of each is worth in gallons of heating oil, propane, therms of natural gas, kilowatt-hours, or bags of pellets.

SEASON IT RIGHT
Burning wet wood wastes heat and builds dangerous creosote. Estimate how long your wood needs to dry from its species, split size, and how it's stacked, and get a "ready by" month. Reading a moisture meter? Cordwise interprets the number and tells you if it's ready to burn.

PLAN YOUR HEAT
Size a wood stove to your space, climate, and insulation, estimate how many cords you'll burn in a season, and compare the cost of heating with wood against oil, gas, propane, electricity, and pellets to find your cheapest source of heat.

LEARN THE CRAFT
Clear, illustrated guides cover what counts as a cord, how to measure a delivery, seasoning, splitting and stacking, choosing the right wood, creosote and chimney safety, stove sizing, and buying smart - plus a plain-English glossary.

KEEP A LOG
Save each delivery with the seller, species, price, and measurement to build a running record of what you've bought and whether you got your money's worth.

PRIVATE BY DESIGN
Cordwise works entirely on your device. No account, no sign-up, no network connection, no tracking, and no in-app purchases - buy it once and own it.

Heat and weight figures are typical seasoned values compiled from public references including the USDA Forest Service and university-extension publications, and vary with region and moisture. Cordwise provides general information and planning estimates only; always follow your stove and chimney manufacturer's instructions, have your chimney inspected and swept regularly, and comply with local codes.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 2.1 — 2026-08-08

Version 2.1 adds Winter Runway command center with deterministic demand scenarios, reserve policies, seasonal readiness windows, purchase-gap and first-30-day risk analysis, monthly runway charts, delivery economics, maintenance gating, recommendations, and an offline share brief

This release also refreshes the native iPhone and iPad experience, accessibility, privacy boundaries, and App Store screenshots. There are no accounts, subscriptions, advertising, tracking, or developer-operated services.

### 2.0.1 — 2026-06-24

This update sharpens the interface: the iPad layout now uses a centered, comfortable reading width instead of stretching edge to edge, so every screen reads as a clean column. iPhone is unchanged; still fully on-device.

### 2.0 — 2026-06-21

Cordwise 2.0 — a pro upgrade for wood heat, still 100% offline.

• Burn Planner: firebox size + species + air setting → estimated burn hours, peak BTU/hr, and an overnight-capable verdict.
• Fire Log: record your real fires with a flame rating, day streaks, and your most-burned species.
• Top-Down Startup Coach: an interactive checklist for a cleaner, faster-drafting fire.
• Heating-Degree-Day estimator: seasonal cords, cost, and oil-equivalent for your region.
• Regional drying climate: an arid / temperate / humid refinement of seasoning time.
• Best-Value ranking: compare two priced woods by cost per delivered BTU.

No account, no network — everything stays on your device.

### 1.2 — 2026-06-15

Version 1.1 — Build 3

• Season Summary — the Inventory tab now shows a full heating-season recap (Oct–Apr) for any year in your delivery log: total cords bought, total spent, average price per cord, and side-by-side savings estimates versus heating oil, propane, natural gas, electricity, and pellets at your local prices. See exactly what wood heat actually saved you this winter.

• Pile export — share your full inventory as a CSV from the Inventory toolbar, with name, species, date stacked, total cords, burned, remaining, and note for every pile.

• Firebox fit calculator — new card on the Plan tab: enter your firebox's interior depth and width and get the ideal log length range and target split-width range for your stove, based on manufacturer clearance guidelines.

Previous 1.1 improvements:
• Wood Inventory — track every pile you have on hand, log what you burn, and see a "weeks remaining" projection based on your home and climate settings
• Chimney log — record sweeps, inspections, and stove service; a status badge shows at a glance whether your annual NFPA 211 inspection is current or overdue
• Delivery export — share your full delivery log as a CSV from the log toolbar, ready to open in Numbers, Excel, or any spreadsheet app
• Plan tab settings are now shared with the Inventory tab, so you only enter your home size and climate once
