So for me useless. Bummed. ### 1/5 — Frequent Problems *2014-12-23, version 1.3.3* The Core Synth is a good idea, a cheap and simple subtractive synthesizer for your ipad. Unfortunately the app crashed frequently and rarely produced sound. The biggest problem was the lack of sound really. ### 2/5 — Good (when it occasionally works) *2014-03-21, version 1.3.3* Core synth is generally great sounding but there is 2 very big issues. The first being that there is often an annoying clicking noise when you play a note. The second being that after a short while of playing it won't play any notes and you are left with just this annoying clicking sound aforementioned, which is a shame since ordinarily this would be a good synth app. ### 1/5 — Useless *2014-01-15, version 1.3.3* You can't save patches, there are no presets, very few controls, no midi. A useless toy really. ### 3/5 — Support MIDI please *2013-11-08, version 1.3.3* Perfectly passable simple mono synth app, but not practical for live or even a home studio really without midi. ### 3/5 — Not quite cooked as a learning app or a synth *2013-10-15, version 1.3.3* I was looking for a synth similar to the Octave Kat that served as my first synth so I could teach my 4 year old sound design. (That's not as crazy as it may sound). Unfortunately this little app lacks a few things I would want... Detuning on both osc's would have been nice, the fine tuning was hard to control (never could dial in a value less than 4 and that was a pain), you can't seem to map anything but an LFO to the mod wheel (my first thought is to use the mod wheel to alter the filter), no noise!?! That's a crying shame, the best part of learning synthesis is making spooky wind and thunder sounds... Heh. The graphics are a bit meh, seems like it could have been a bit more vintage looking, but that's me being picky. The bottom line is that it generally it sounds weak and less than impressive. ### 1/5 — no Sound? *2013-04-26, version 1.3.2* Can't get any sound from this despite adjusting sliders and knobs. It DID work at first, but bummed out within two minutes playing. ### 1/5 — What? *2012-12-29, version 1.3.1* With the last update my app got reset to the free module, despite previously paying for it. Now i have adds that run across the controls and I can't save any presets. I lost a bunch that i had previously saved. It may not be the cure for insomnia but it's a close second. Three stars because it's competently designed and executed - in other words, it worked. ### 4/5 — Nice! The interface is OKish, but there’s no sound on my iPad Pro. Not an inducement to “upgrade” even for only £1.99. I don't like the keys becoming coloured when pressed. I recommend the moog model 15 for 30 dollars if you want to get into some synthesis that you can actually see. I get that it's a free app and all but come on with the add blocking that much of the screen is that really necessary? There are plenty of free apps that don't over spam with ads. And I am not rating this one star. Negative one would be more accurate. ### 1/5 — Very boring sound. Poor controls. *2016-07-17, version 1.3.3* Don't buy it. The sound is so dull. The controls are poor. The envelopes are far too restrictive. The filter is rubbish. Even putting aside the ad that covers part of the upper control, this is just a very poor synth. ### 1/5 — Terrible Ads *2016-07-02, version 1.3.3* I would consider buying the pro version except I can't actually get a feel for the free version as there is a constant, incessant and irrelevant ad coving everything above the pitch wheel. Also doesn't support MIDI. ## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated) ### 5/5 — Retro... *2019-08-31, version 1.5.1* Simple retro style mono synth, that has always worked ok. One of my first apps. Worth a couple of pounds for the full version. There are more complex synths available, some more, some less in price, but this is a nice emulation of a basic (they were all pretty basic back then) mid 70’s synth. ### 5/5 — Like my old Yamaha CS 30 *2014-09-08, version 1.3.3* This thing really reminds me of the old CS series synths by Yamaha before they did the dx7. It is a great app with a really good sound and I definitely recommend the full version upgrade. It could also use a polyphony option, but that isn't really necessary.
