## What is Corpán?

PURE LEARNING. Respectful, elegant, ad-free language study from a small independent team.

Corpán is the continuous evolution of language learning.

OUR PRINCIPLES

• Private. No accounts, no tracking, no data collection. Your study stays on your device.
• Offline. Your sentence library works without a network. Audio works offline too if you have offline voices installed. Travel, fly, study off-grid.
• Quiet. No ads. No nagging notifications.
• Curated. Every sentence is hand-picked. Phrases real people actually say, weighted A1–B2 for daily life, travel, and work.
• Yours. Set your native language and study from your perspective, not "from English."

MANY WAYS TO STUDY, ALL IN ONE APP

• Phrase book. Tap any sentence to hear it spoken in clear native voices. Filter by topic and CEFR level.
• Audiobooks. Read full books in your target language with sentence-by-sentence narration and instant translation. Free and premium titles.
• Pronunciation Coach. Get pronunciation feedback from offline speech-to-text models running entirely on your device.
• World Radio. Tune in to live stations from anywhere on the planet — true native streaming, lock-screen controls, background playback.
• Games. Recognize Chinese characters with Hanzipan. Run, jump, and learn in 3D with Hover Runner.
• And new experiences ship all the time — delivered through Packs, our modular system for adding games, books, readers, and learning modes without bloating the core app.

Learn many languages at once, or focus on just one. Switch your primary language any time. Currently practiced in over 50 languages:

Arabic, Bengali, Bulgarian, Cantonese (Traditional, Hong Kong), Catalan, Chinese (Simplified), Chinese (Traditional), Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Gujarati, Hebrew, Hindi, Hungarian, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Kannada, Korean, Lithuanian, Malay, Marathi, Nepali, Norwegian, Persian, Polish, Portuguese (Brazil), Portuguese (Portugal), Punjabi (Gurmukhi), Punjabi (Shahmukhi), Romanian, Russian, Serbian, Slovak, Slovenian, Spanish, Swahili, Swedish, Tamil, Telugu, Thai, Turkish, Ukrainian, Urdu, and Vietnamese.

The interface, onboarding, and settings are fully localized in every supported language.

BUILD WITH US

Corpán is open at the edges. Our Packs SDK lets creators build their own language-learning experiences — powered by the same curated corpus, native TTS, and native streaming — and ship them inside Corpán. Join the small team building the language-learning app we always wanted.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 0.19.2 — 2026-06-23

Corpán is getting more alive from the very first tap.

This update adds a new first-run experience that lets you choose how you want to begin: read, study, make music, play language games, or let Corpán surprise you. Then the app brings your choice to life with a smoother animated launch, real content, and a faster path into the good stuff.

Reading now starts with less setup. New users can land directly in a narrated book preview, with language support ready in the background so you can start listening, reading, and exploring right away.

Phrase Flip is now a first-class part of the app, with its own artwork and a proper home alongside your installed experiences. It is still quick, simple phrase practice, but now it feels like it belongs.

Home is cleaner and more useful too. Pack updates are shown where you actually need them, with one-tap updating instead of hiding behind settings.

Corpán Plus is clearer and friendlier, with better free-trial messaging, better code redemption, and fewer confusing subscription moments.

We also fixed catalog loading, offline subscriber access, first-launch routing, duplicate pack cards, and several rough edges in the onboarding and paywall flow.

Corpán is still the same idea: languages through books, games, music, phrase practice, and curiosity. No ads. No login. Built to make learning feel like something you want to come back to.

On-device language tutors

Meet Tutomaton: a patient tutor for every language you're learning, running entirely on your device. Ask anything, practice freely, work through a sentence, or just chat. Type or speak — it can talk back — and it even draws on the phrases you've already been learning in Corpán. Your conversations stay private and work offline. A one-time model download gets you set up (it's large, so Wi-Fi is best).

A new home

Home is now one calm place for everything. A "For you" suggestion offers something worth doing next — tap to start, or ask for another. Tell it what you like, skip what you don't, and your recommendations adjust over time. Below that: what you've used recently, a short row to browse, your phrase packs, and your full library with one-tap updates. Settings is simpler too — a single pane, with Corpán Plus and your downloads in clear reach.

Voices that fit your language

Voice setup now leads with the right voice for your language and dialect — a Portugal voice for European Portuguese, a Taiwan voice for Traditional Chinese, a UK voice for British English — with a button to hear it instantly. A clear guide shows exactly how to switch on your device's best built-in voices, and voices you install now appear on their own.

A gentler start

Onboarding is shorter and steadier: choose your languages and topics, set up voices, tell us what you're here for, then take a quick guided tour of what's inside before you dive in.

Throughout

- A quick-settings panel on Phrase Flip to adjust speed, languages, levels, and active packs on the fly
- The app's interface speaks around 50 languages
- An in-app notice when a new version is available
- Corpán Plus: subscribe, manage, or restore in one place
- More reliable downloads for large content, including the tutor models
- Many stability and reliability fixes across iPhone and iPad

Pure learning. No ads. Your data stays on your device.

### 0.15.8 — 2026-05-21

Corpán 0.13.1 - the Parlometron release.

Parlometron arrives, formerly the Pronunciation Coach. A full rebrand and a new multiplayer mode: pass-the-phone pronunciation duels in any of Corpán's 51 languages, scored on-device by Whisper. No servers, no accounts. Solo practice is still there for the quieter days.

A new Large q8 model option ships with Parlometron - our own 8-bit quantization of Whisper Large v3, about 1.6 GB, delivered from our CDN. Noticeably faster than the default Large on most iPhones, at the same accuracy.

Steadier on-device speech:

* Model swaps no longer crash the app. A memory-headroom gate inspects free RAM before loading and refuses cleanly when a load would exceed safe limits.
* The iPhone microphone indicator no longer stays on after you leave a pronunciation session. The audio engine is fully torn down when the pack closes.
* Back-to-back recordings work reliably, and TTS volume between mic tries is back to full.

Main-screen polish:

* The language stack now picks its vertical placement to fit your text size and stack count without ever clipping the last row under the nav bar.
* Onboarding's language picker scrolls cleanly on small devices when the coming-soon list runs long.

Privacy. Anonymous, opt-out usage analytics arrive in Settings, "Send anonymous usage data". Country-only geolocation, ephemeral session IDs, no persistent identifiers. Off in one tap. Privacy Promise on encorpora.io updated to match.

Pure learning.

### 0.12.6 — 2026-05-15

A substantial expansion of the library, a meaningful upgrade to the Pronunciation Coach, and a more honest Privacy Promise.

New series in this release:
- Food of the World, starting with Soul Food of the Southern United States, and Persian Food
- Vehicles, with The Story of the Motorcycle and The Story of the Train
- Musical Instruments of the World, opening with The Oud
- AI This Week — a recurring weekly dialog between two narrators about what's actually shipping in AI, fact-checked and rendered in over thirty languages

New chapters in existing series:
- Little Escapes adds Gardening and Sailing — short, calm essays about lifelong amateur hobbies
- Pirate Biographies adds Hayreddin Barbarossa, alongside an additional voice and new languages for Zheng Yi Sao
- Tolstoy's What Men Live By, translated into many languages with full audio

The Pronunciation Coach now offers seven model tiers — from a quick Tiny model that runs almost instantly, up to a Full-Weight Large Turbo that holds its own across all 51 languages. Each tier is described in plain language so you can choose between speed, size, and accuracy for your device and target language. Scoring is more honest, too: punctuation no longer drags down your acoustic score, numerals are excluded from the per-word probabilities they were quietly poisoning, and the heard-text display reflects what was actually transcribed instead of a sanitized version.

The Earthgate audiobook reader scrolls more gently — the active word lands a touch closer to the middle of the screen, with a little more room to read forward. The transport bar at the bottom stays stable on first play (previously the chapter row would collapse on books without chapters and shrink the controls).

Settings now has an anonymous-analytics toggle. Session-scoped usage data is collected by default so we can decide which packs and languages to invest in next: no accounts, no device identifiers, no IP storage, no third-party trackers. One tap to switch it off, and you don't need an account to do it. The full Privacy Promise has been rewritten to spell out exactly what's collected, why, and how to opt out.

The voice library has expanded with new narrators, including August (a new English baritone) and Sadachbia, alongside the dual-voice pairing that carries the AI This Week dialog.

### 0.12.5 — 2026-05-07

This is the biggest Corpán release yet. New languages, a brand-new pack category, a totally rebuilt radio engine, and the first proper on-device speech model the app has ever shipped. Quietly, the foundation got a lot stronger too.

Pronunciation Coach has landed — Corpán's first on-device speech model. Speak a phrase, get an honest score, watch your pronunciation tighten over time. Four model tiers from Small (216 MB) to Advanced (1.6 GB) all run entirely on your iPhone or iPad — nothing leaves the device. WhisperKit + Apple's Neural Engine. Offline by default, memory-aware on smaller devices, and the model chooser is refreshingly honest about what each tier can and can't do.

Thirteen new languages — Nepali, European Portuguese, Croatian, Serbian (Cyrillic + Latin), Ukrainian, Bulgarian, Romanian, Catalan, Cantonese (Traditional + Jyutping), Czech, Lithuanian, Slovak, Slovenian — bring the bundled corpus to 51 languages. Every phrase translated, romanized where it matters, wired into native TTS voices, and end-to-end localized in the app's own UI.

World Radio went native. AVPlayer running outside the WebView, Control Center transport, lock-screen artwork, ICY metadata, and background-resilient playback that survives phone calls and podcast interrupts. Tap a station, lock your phone, walk to the kitchen — it just keeps playing.

Switching between Pronunciation Coach models is rock solid now. The new STT plugin chains loads through a single serializer, drops previous models cleanly via autoreleasepool, and runs dual decoding in series instead of in parallel — peak memory halved, no wall-clock cost. CoreML compute fallback covers older iPads that can't compile turbo on GPU. Atomic install with rollback means a failed download never corrupts a working install.

True randomness for the first time. The previous build used a nanosecond modulo as a PRNG; rapid taps clustered and you'd see the same five phrases on repeat. Now backed by SQLite's ORDER BY RANDOM(). Tap fast and you get an actually shuffled deck.

Onboarding polished end-to-end. RTL-aware arrows, autonyms rendered in their own scripts on the primary-language picker, a deduped welcome cloud, a header background that flows cleanly under the nav, decoupled typography that doesn't blow up under the system text-size setting, and tip cards redesigned with proper logical margins for RTL languages.

A first-run Discover Packs panel surfaces curated content right after onboarding — Earthgate Reader, Stargate Reader, Hover Runner, Hanzipan — one tap each. The catalog system now supports per-platform gating, per-OS gating, and version windows, so you only see packs that actually run on your device and your version.

Slimmed corpus, heavier curation. The bundle dropped from ~27k phrases to ~10k — A1 through B2 weighted, half the download size, more language coverage. The phrases that remained are the ones you actually need.

Modal stack hardened. Dialogs and launched readers render above app chrome — no more peek-through bugs in the install-progress dialog or the inline reader.

51 languages. On-device speech scoring. Native radio with full lock-screen love. Honest random. New books, new packs, polished from edge to edge.

Pure Learning, sharpened.
