Now it takes forever to load and grinds endlessly while doing nothing. Even using a milder tone with a medium volume is terrible. Fantastic app otherwise. ### 1/5 — Never functions right since the update *2022-06-24, version 5.0.5* This app used to be decent but since the most recent update where they changed the user interface, not only does it look terrible but it functions terribly. The app takes forever to load. It can’t keep up with my typing when I’m trying to write a message. It takes forever to toggle between different tabs in the app. I hate it. It makes my job harder. ### 1/5 — The update was a HUGE downgrade *2022-06-06, version 5.0.5* The app was working just fine till they updated it. It became slow, with mismatch between the lock screen notifications and the actual notification status. The update, as usual, like any other update in the tech world, is usually worse than the previous version. Please, please, please please do not update for the sake of update. If a system is working well, I see no reason to change even if it’s been around for 10, 20 or 30 years. Do not update for the sake of updates. For god sake ### 1/5 — Post cortext trauma disorder *2022-05-17* Awful is an understatement, I wasted so much time calling cortext support folks, resetting my phone multiple times, deleting and downloading cortext app atleast 20 times since their update, staring at cortext screen waiting for message to open, clicking on send button multiple times with no success.. Context has added more work and stress than improving my efficiency at work. And worst part is that it continues to consume 40-50% of battery despite their multiple updates. I’d not use this even if it is free in current form Even getting paranoid to the point that I believe there may have been some cozy exchange of benefits from cortext with my employer that my employer is not ending this subscription. ### 1/5 — Newest update got rid of post-nominal *2022-05-17, version 5.0.5* In a very large hospital, lack of post-nominal makes it incredibly difficult to find who I’m looking for. People with similar names could be a nurse, a physician, an NP or PA, a dietician, a PT, an OT, or a custodian. Titles aren’t necessarily how people choose to be addressed, but they are so important in identifying one another. I can see a LOT of communication errors with this update. ### 1/5 — 5.0 update is horrible *2022-05-03, version 5.0.2* This update is absolute garbage. It freezes and crashes continuously. The response time is awful. What were they thinking pushing this out? Unfortunately I’m sure they have many signed contracts already with businesses that allow them to get away with this, but better believe I’ll make noise with my huge academic institution about how bad it is. ### 1/5 — It gets worse daily:((( *2022-05-02, version 5.0.2* It’s going to have an effect on patient outcomes…then maybe they will fix it>:( ### 1/5 — Unusable *2022-04-28, version 5.0.2* Terrible terrible update to 5.0x version. Unusable. Slow. Unreliable. Can be a liability for patient care at institutions that rely on this platform for P2P secure communication. Curious if there are other decent competitor platforms. ### 1/5 — Terrible terrible *2022-04-24* I am a physician and receive many cortexts every hour. When it beeps and I open the app, it takes another 3-5 seconds to load the message. This needs to be fixed. Also, with recent updates, the app has slowed down and seems to take additional couple seconds everytime you open the app to pull in directories. Cortext has to fix this as physicians already started using another app as we are fed up with poor performance of this app but still need to use this as nurses dont have another option. ### 1/5 — Update disappointments *2022-04-16, version 5.0.2* Frequently fails to load Chimes unreliable sometimes No longer able to forward texts to other doctors ### 2/5 — DONT UPDATE ITS A TRAP *2022-04-15, version 5.0.2* Since most recent update several weeks ago, the app is essentially unusable. It takes a long time to load and hangs almost every time it is opened. ### 1/5 — Only medical app not better than Android version *2022-04-13, version 5.0.2* Issues: 1. Randomly auto logs me off which means I will miss messages unless I notice myself 2. No override silent for routine messages (this is a feature you can enable in Android, not sure if it is iOS limiting it) 3. Sends me notifications that I have unread messages when I do not. 4. Overall very easy to miss messages and lose connection The UI improvement recently was much needed and smooth. But it is window dressing from an app that does not work. Hopefully my place of work moves away from Cortext to another platform. ### 1/5 — Should allow dictation, buggy and slow *2022-04-06* The update has been a downgrade. Three salient flaws. One, I should be able to use dictation. It’s not up to Cortext whether I am HIPAA compliant, it’s up to me. I can dictate in every other app, it makes no sense to close it down in this one. Stupid. Second, please remove the passcode requirement that was added in the update. Not needed and annoying. Finally, since the update if you are composing a message that is multiple lines, and you delete a selected block of text at the end, only the first line of the text will show and there is no way to scroll down to see the rest of the text. To re-create the problem, write a multi line text message, select a word at the end, and delete. You will see the issue. Communication with the synchronization server(s) has also been much slower since the update. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Not working at all *2024-04-30* Not sure if the app is still functioning. Can’t even login or log out. It just keep saying “connecting” ### 1/5 — Deleted messages come back from the dead *2024-04-16* I like to erase my messages and conversations after a few days. Every week or so, every message I've had since I first got the app (July 2024) will come back and freeze the app. I have to restart and manually erase thousands of messages. Then it'll run for a week and boom, every deleted message comes back. It used to be slightly slower than texting, and now it’s slightly slower than a fossilized snail. When we ask for fixes we are told to turn Wi-Fi on and off, or to reboot and re-download… which is as effective as shouting into a void. ### 1/5 — Absolutely terrible *2023-05-26, version 5.0.8* Cortext gets more unreliable with every (infrequent) update. The app constantly freezes, crashes regularly (sometimes requiring deletion and reinstallation to function again), and worst of all cannot be relied upon to push notifications when texts are received. If you are looking at Cortext as a secure texting solution for your enterprise, do yourself a favour and go elsewhere. Our staff are lobbying for its replacement because it is so unreliable. ### 1/5 — Not even opening *2023-05-01* It used to work well (as expected from a app with a simple function). Then it took forever to barely open and on top of that if worked slowly. Now it doesn’t open at all. Now it barely functions and seems to freeze all the time. Probably adds 30 minutes to every shift waiting for it to sync. ### 1/5 — Worse functionality since Spring 2022 *2022-12-05, version 5.0.7* Ever since a recent update was pushed in Spring 2022 Cortext has frequently failed to push notifications for medical communications. This has delayed patient care and resulted in a number of near misses. With cortex all that changed I know who want to communicate , how serious the patients condition is and have all my communication documented in the cortex text system. No more getting up to find a phone during meetings. Every interaction done quickly , improves patient care. Everyone should try it. Thanx. If you are not using cortext you are wasting time that could be spent on patient care. Keep up the good work. ### 4/5 — Lack of customer support *2022-11-09* Long time (previously satisfied) cortext user dealing with unacceptable glitches following latest update (5.0.7). Attempted to contact customer support and only ended up wasting time chasing rabbit trails. Multiple coworkers frustrated with new update interfering with work productivity throughout our organization. Cortext team please fix: 1) User friendly ability to contact your company for support. 2)Glitchy previous update 5.0.7. UPDATE: First person I went to for assistance with Cortext at my place of employment told me that deleting app and reinstalling had not fixed issues for them so I didn’t try. I contacted IS/IT for help with Cortext app. The IS/IT employee suggested DELETING APP & REINSTALLING. THAT FIXED SLOWNESS & GLITCHY ISSUES. So I’m changing from 1 start to 4…..still would suggest Cortext company try to improve customer support. ### 4/5 — Need AppleWatch app *2018-02-15, version 4.2.2.4220025* Getting alerts on my AppleWatch is nice, but I really need to be able to read them there. MOST other messaging apps have a watch app, in can read and reply right from my watch never take my phone out. They need to fix the bugs, however, and make sure texts always come through in a timely manner. It is also ridiculous that there is no medical dictionary, auto correct makes some embarrassing spelling errors.
