### 2/5 — Very conflicting info to Think Dirty app

*2020-07-10, version 3.1.1*

Loads of products that have a green tick on here are an 8 on Think Dirty...

### 2/5 — Coding Off

*2019-01-20, version 2.2.18*

I would love to use this app and love the concept (5* for that!) but I can hardly access it. I’ve downloaded it and redone loaded it and the page is not centered so I can’t see the content. It looks like a website in a browser with bad frame html. The screenshots look normal so I’m not sure what is going on. I can’t scroll to images in the slider because the images only appear halfway on my screen and run off the page.
Perhaps there is just a bug?

### 2/5 — Disappointing

*2018-08-10, version 2.2.15*

Not enough products from the UK, which would be ok if only they added the products submitted by their users. I’ve submitted new products 2 months ago and still waiting...

### 2/5 — Mandatory Facebook login

*2015-04-10, version 1.0.9*

Lots of useful info but you can't personalise without logging in via facebook. I don't want to do that, and see no reason why I should have to.

### 1/5 — Does not know any products!

*2014-11-18, version 1.0.3*

Has not recognised a single product ever scanned out of many, and also they don't bother to add missing products as promised or reply at all!

### 1/5 — Great idea - no database.

*2014-10-28, version 1.0.1*

Scanned about 30 products, only one was identified, my shower gel - as a fench hair spray.

None of the products I've scanned have been added in a week.

Poor.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Doesn’t work

*2025-05-06, version 3.5.6*

The app literally doesn’t work. Can’t scan and or find anything. Just keeps “freezing” after scanning

### 1/5 — Gatekeeping product safety

*2025-02-14, version 3.5.6*

Have to pay in order to see if products ingredients are harmful or not. There is much better apps out there for free. Examples like Think Dirty, Yuka, and Skin Safe. Download these instead!

### 1/5 — Not working

*2025-01-15, version 3.5.6*

I’ve tried to scan a handful of drugstore skincare products, it takes forever to come up with anything. Going to uninstall the app.

### 1/5 — Not working app!

*2022-12-31, version 3.4.7*

So currently this app doesn’t work. I tried to Sign up by my email, fb and by Apple. Nothing worked. Always said the email is already registered. I tried 3 email addresses . Always the same answer. This is ridiculous.. The only thing what works is scanning the product. You can see the ingredients. But. For the result if is good/bad. You need to log in/sign up. Which DOESN’T WORK!! 🤦‍♀️

### 1/5 — Basic functionality is extremely buggy, sometimes spammy

*2021-02-18, version 3.1.4*

I have several concerns about this app:
1. The personal ingredient alert list doesn’t work. I made a personal ingredient alert list that includes things like sodium lauryl sulfate. However, when I search for items that I know contain it, they appear with the green “safe” check. I double checked the ingredients, and sure enough, sodium lauryl sulfate is included, spelled exactly the same way. This is a BIG issue. If I can’t trust the alert lists to work, what’s the point?
2. Every time I move into a different app, then return to the CosmEthics app, I get a popup about in app purchases - specifically, that I’ve disabled them on my phone. Why is CosmEthics always trying to make in app purchases without my consent? It’s spam and makes me lose trust that this is a quality product.
3. The homepage never loads. It always says it’s tailoring the feed but even if I leave my phone for five minutes, nothing appears and I still see the loading message.

### 1/5 — Every product I wanted to scan was not in the database

*2020-10-26, version 3.1.3*

Got this app bc I recently found out I have a couple of allergies I need to watch out for in products. Every time I searched for something it “wasn’t in the database”. It is unclear how to best use the app for the purpose intended bc there is NO INFORMAtion. Super frustrating and a waste of time.

### 1/5 — Couldn’t find any of my products

*2019-01-30, version 2.2.18*

I downloaded this app hoping to find it helpful, but I couldn’t find any of the products I have/use in the database! I tried a variety of types of products and a variety of brands and couldn’t find a single one. The app also constantly is having alerts pop up when you're using it, which is incredibly annoying.

### 1/5 — The app crashes

*2016-02-07, version 2.1.2*

The app crashes as soon as I open it, please fix this

### 1/5 — Can not login!

*2015-07-09, version 2.0*

I can not login

### 1/5 — Poor App

*2015-06-12, version 1.0.10*

Doesn't have many products, links don't work, why make an app and publish it when things aren't fully functional? Looks like another app selling beauty cosmetics, trying to be ethical about it? Do you really care about what chemicals are in cosmetics or do you just want to make money from selling them, chemical links to Wikipedia is very lazy anyone can use Wiki to read the back of a label and look them up so why use this irrelevant app.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — An useful app for finding the best sun cream

*2024-02-09, version 3.5.6*

Helped me to find the best option for a new sun cream when travelling.

### 5/5 — Fabulous- a easy super helpful App

*2021-09-07, version 3.3.0*

I’m allergic to cocoa, Shea and jojoba and all their derivatives - wow there are a lot of products out there with those ingredients. This app makes my life so much easier, I love it. Thank you to all the team who developed it and work on adding new products 🙏🏼😍

### 5/5 — Shopping safety tool

*2019-04-11, version 2.2.20*

Thank you for putting all this information at our fingertips. Have taken shopping with me to determine which products I should purchase.

### 5/5 — Super helpful and easy to use

*2019-04-11, version 2.2.20*

Great app! Been waiting for it to come to the US!

### 5/5 — Just what I needed

*2019-04-11, version 2.2.20*

I care about ethical consumption, and the Cosmethics app has been a great help in providing detail about products. It has helped me make informed decisions as a consumer. Super easy to use

### 5/5 — LOVE, LOVE, LOVE

*2017-01-04, version 2.2.3*

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE this app. Only had it 30 Minutes and I love it. So helpful. It helped me find out which of my makeup was expired and which ones had harmful ingredients in them. Love this app so much.❤️

### 4/5 — Love it!

*2019-06-21, version 2.2.21*

The idea is brilliant! It is really helpful for people to be aware of the ingredients that cosmetics have. I could say I am becoming addictive to this app and check everything I wanna buy. However, the base data is still small. I have tried to help and add so new products but the analysis is been pending for too long.

### 4/5 — Needs more info

*2017-07-10, version 2.2.7*

Brilliant idea for those of us who would like natural make up and skin care but not enough products in database especially from U.K.

### 3/5 — Great concept but database lacking

*2020-06-30, version 3.1.1*

Whilst this app is great in theory - scan a product and get a colour coded answer as to how safe it is - in reality, it doesn’t quite do the job. I’ve scanned practically every product in my home and the database has none (or very few) results. The option to scan and upload products is also very clunky as the screen is partially obscured by the instructions and not working (uploading images from new iPhone gets an error message that the photos are too large, and yet there is no way to change this)
The home feed is full of products that aren’t even relevant to me and we’re approved / added in 2018/19. I was never notified of the products I scanned back when I downloaded this app which makes me wonder how many people are working to add new products to the data base (I would assume very few).

Still. It’s a great app when it (infrequently) works - but in the future I would hope that the government would require all companies to provide ingredient data that would be viewable using a similar traffic light system through an app. Would save an individual having to manually upload the ingredients and would provide necessary transparency for consumers.

### 3/5 — Good ideas, but needs improvement

*2016-11-02, version 2.2.1*

I thought the idea was great when I came across this app, especially considering that I am vegan. However it had told me that a certain product was unsuitable, when the label of the deodorant stated suitable for vegans.
You could also submit your own products if they are not in the system already, so I though oh wow amazing, however after a long wait my products have been declined without an explanation. Very disappointed. There's some great ideas, however it definitely needs improvement.
