## What is Counsel?

You don't need another journaling prompt. You need a room where someone has thought about hard things before, and is willing to tell you what they actually see.

Counsel is that room. You type the situation you're sitting with — the cofounder dispute, the parent in decline, the partner who won't go to therapy, the friend who married someone you don't trust, the boss who undermines you, the move you might be making for the wrong reasons. You choose three to five mentors from a council of sixteen historical figures: Marcus Aurelius, Sun Tzu, Machiavelli, Cleopatra, Buddha, Eleanor Roosevelt, Frederick Douglass, Virginia Woolf, and others. You tap Convene.

The council convenes, and you have your answer. Each mentor's view in their own voice, anchored by a verbatim quote with its citation. You see where they agree, where they don't (this is the most useful part), what one move they'd commit to, and a concrete action you can take tonight.

WHY THIS, NOT A CHATBOT

A chatbot gives you a smoothed-over average. Counsel gives you distinct voices on the same problem. When Marcus Aurelius and Machiavelli look at the same situation, they rarely land in the same place — and that contrast is where most people find the answer they couldn't see alone.

WHAT YOU GET BACK

• A summary of your situation in Counsel's voice
• Each mentor's response, in distinct voice, with a verbatim quote and citation
• Where the mentors converge
• Where they diverge — the philosophical wedge that surfaces the real choice
• A committed synthesis: one path, and what it costs
• "Your next 24 hours" — a concrete action

THE MENTORS

Marcus Aurelius, Sun Tzu, Machiavelli, Talleyrand, Cleopatra, Seneca, Lao Tzu, Confucius, Lincoln, Eleanor Roosevelt, Virginia Woolf, Frederick Douglass, Buddha, Benjamin Franklin, Sappho, Mary Wollstonecraft.

SAFETY

Counsel is not crisis support. Inputs describing self-harm or harm to others are routed to professional crisis resources (988, Samaritans, Lifeline, findahelpline.com) before any AI response is generated.

SUBSCRIPTION

Weekly $4.99 or yearly $59.99, both with a 3-day free trial. Manage in Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions.

DISCLOSURES

Mentor voices are AI-generated using Claude (Anthropic). Quotes are drawn from public-domain sources or widely-attributed sayings. The mentors are not the historical figures themselves. Counsel is for reflection, not a substitute for professional medical, legal, or financial advice.
