## What is Count Dojo?

Count Dojo is the first app that actually teaches card counting — from complete beginner to casino-ready advantage player — through a structured, gamified curriculum.

Every other card counting app assumes you already know what to practice. Count Dojo assumes you know nothing and guides you step by step, the way Duolingo does for languages. For players who already know the game, the calculators, casino database, and results tracker are built for real sessions.

WHAT YOU'LL LEARN
- Complete basic strategy — hard totals, soft totals, pairs, surrender
- The Hi-Lo system used by professional advantage players
- Running count, true count conversion, mental math
- Bet sizing and bankroll management (Kelly Criterion)
- The Illustrious 18 deviations and Fab 4 surrenders
- Cover play and heat management
- Game selection — finding beatable tables
- Advanced topics: hole carding, side bets, team play

HOW IT WORKS
A Duolingo-style skill tree with 6 units and 100+ bite-sized lessons. Clear explanations, real math, and quiz questions. Side branches cover history, theory, and advanced concepts.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.18.0 — 2026-08-11

Cards that always fit your screen
- Speed Counting dealt up to 10 cards in a row that could run past both screen edges - on bigger deals, cards you were being graded on were literally invisible. Card fans now solve against your actual screen: same look when there's room, tighter overlap when there isn't (rank corners always stay readable), smaller cards only as a last resort.
- The same fix now covers the Running Count drill's 8-card sequences, the casino simulator's dealer and player hands, and the session-analysis hand history.

The small-screen sweep
- Strategy charts no longer cut off the 9/10/A dealer columns on any device.
- The profile activity heatmap now shows all 30 days (the most recent days used to clip off the right edge).
- The keyboard no longer covers the inputs you're typing into in casino sim setup, the Bankroll Planner, and the custom bet-spread editor.
- Option chips in sim setup wrap to a second line instead of spilling off the card; the penetration selector fits all nine dots on narrow screens.
- Drill titles, stat values, and lesson tables scale to fit instead of truncating or overlapping; unit and tool names can wrap to two lines.
- Wrong-answer breakdowns, the placement-test dialog, and bottom feedback sheets now fit short screens (and respect the home indicator).

Support
- The Contact Support button in Settings now opens the correct support address.
- If your device has no mail app set up (Apple Mail deleted, no default chosen), the button now shows the support address with one-tap copy instead of a dead-end error.

### 1.17.0 — 2026-08-06

The accuracy release
- We audited every lesson, quiz, glossary entry, and coaching string in the app - 1,500+ factual claims checked against the primary literature (Griffin, Schlesinger, Wong, Thorp, Wizard of Odds) and against our own calibrated simulation engine. Everything that disagreed got fixed. Roughly 200 corrections shipped in this release.

Bankroll and risk numbers you can trust
- All risk-of-ruin, bankroll-sizing, N0, and hourly EV/SD figures across Unit 3, the side branches, and the glossary now derive from the app's BJA-calibrated engine - the same one behind the Bankroll Planner. Lessons, quizzes, and tools finally tell one story.
- The bankroll doctrine is now consistent everywhere: roughly 100-200 max bets, a 150-max-bet drop-down floor, 20x-max-bet session roll - and the capstone lesson's bankroll advice now states its real risk instead of implying safety.
- Kelly cluster corrected (quarter-Kelly risk/growth figures), variance funnel and losing-streak tables recomputed exactly.

Strategy and counting corrections
- Fixed 12 impossible cells in the single-deck H17 strategy tables (7,7 and 8,8 vs Ten) and the A,8 vs 6 cell in S17 tables - both display and grading.
- One EOR dataset (Griffin's published values) now appears identically across every lesson that teaches it, with honest attribution.
- The KO side-branch was rewritten - the old page taught an unplayable version of the system (wrong starting count). Now canonical: IRC = 4 - 4 x decks.
- A,8 vs 6 is now correctly taught as an S17-only index - previously the lesson's "star deviation" contradicted the app's own drill grading.
- True count convention declared: Count Dojo grades truncation toward zero, with a negative-count worked example (and a note on where the books differ).

New content
- True Count Theorem + floating advantage (why the count doesn't "drift back to zero").
- Cash handling, CTRs, and structuring - the compliance page every serious player needs before their bankroll crosses reporting thresholds.
- Trip vs lifetime risk of ruin. The 73% two-hand sizing rule. Cover-only-under-observation doctrine. SCORE/DI literacy. Field-craft notes (labeled as practitioner lore, not sim math): backcounting posture, green-chip heat reality, demeanor, backoff phrasings.
- Legal reality: using a counting app inside a casino is a felony in Nevada (NRS 465.075). The app now says so, prominently - the phone stays in your pocket.
- Three new glossary terms (True Count Theorem, CTR, Structuring) - 128 total.

2026 Reality Check
- New labeled blocks pair the classic teaching with what you'll actually find on the floor in 2026: 6:5 as the default low-limit product (and the real price of "just walk away"), no-mid-shoe-entry making wong-out the live skill, RFID/surveillance deployment described honestly, the Griffin agency story's actual ending.
- Casino sim presets renamed to match reality: "Vegas Main Floor" (6D H17) is now the default preset; the old "Strip Standard" is labeled the high-limit game it is; a Strip Low-Limit (6:5) preset shows why you avoid it.

Sim and drill coaching
- Simulator surrender coaching is now rules-aware (7-cell H17 list / 4-cell S17 list). Underbet cost figure corrected. Deviation drill medal copy matches actual thresholds.
- Chips and Bet Sizing drill intros now show YOUR configured unit and spread instead of hardcoded examples.
- Settings now disclose that drills grade Hi-Lo (other systems: reference + sim only).
- Simulation data refresh: the no-deviations comparison tables were re-run at 10x the sample size, fixing the Bankroll Planner's "None" deviation toggle.

### 1.16.0 — 2026-05-30

Strategy chart + grading consistency
- Drill and casino-sim grading now use the same 48-table source the displayed reference chart already shows. No more "the chart says double but the drill graded hit." Drills are unchanged for the default 6D H17 DAS LS; casino sim grading is now correct for 1D / 2D and S17 variants where the old engine had wrong cells.
- Strategy reference defaults to H17 (matches how drills grade) instead of S17.

Casino sim - deviation feedback
- Deviation feedback now shows the real index number for matched deviations (was hardcoded to "0" in three of four feedback paths). When you correctly hit a deviation at TC +3 or higher, the feedback panel says "+3" not "0".

Casino sim - bankroll integrity
- Fixed a stale-state bug where a winning hand at exactly the table minimum could end the session because the broke-check read the pre-payout bankroll. Sessions now correctly continue after wins / pushes / blackjacks at any chip level.
- All animation timers now cleaned up when you leave the simulator mid-hand. No more "lingering setState into unmounted screen" React warnings.

Casino DB - D9-11 / D10-11 tables
- Casinos with restricted double-down rules (D9-11 / D10-11) now actually grade differently in the sim. Previously they were treated identically to "double on any first 2 cards." Hard 8 vs 5/6 and similar plays now correctly fall back to "hit" at restricted-double tables. Edge calculator also reflects the small EV cost (-0.09% / -0.18% per Wizard of Odds).

Strategy reference - Deviation EV column removed
- The "EV" column on the Deviation Indices reference was positionally fabricated - it just walked +0.220, +0.210, +0.200... down each row, with no relationship to any specific deviation's real EV gain. Removed entirely. The Index + Play columns are the actionable info; we won't fake precision.

Account deletion - server first
- Delete Account now calls the server delete RPC FIRST and only wipes local state on success. Previously a network blip during deletion could leave the server account fully alive (with active premium entitlement) while the local UI showed a clean slate. 10s timeout; clean error on failure.

Cold-boot resilience
- The app could previously hang on the loading splash if Supabase getSession() or initialSync() didn't respond within a reasonable window. Both now race against an 8-second timeout - bad-network cold boots fall through to local-only mode and the app loads.

Sync - quieter offline UX
- Network-related sync errors no longer surface a toast. Sync auto-retries on next foreground / app-state transition, so a per-retry toast is just noise. Real (non-network) errors still toast.

Privacy - vote rows
- Tightened the casino DB intel-votes table read policy. Previously any authenticated user could enumerate every other user's vote history (intel ID + vote direction). Now own-votes-only.

Achievements consistency
- Practice-drill achievements (10 / 50 / 100 drills) and best-accuracy achievements no longer count lesson quizzes. The unlock checker already excluded them; the progress UI now matches.

Strict-LT deviation drill fix
- The "Hit 12 vs 4 at TC less than 0" deviation drill was generated at TC=0 (the index itself) and graded HIT as correct - but at TC=0 basic strategy says STAND. Drill now picks TC = -1 for strict-less-than deviations so they actually fire.

Other polish
- "Deviations Indices" to "Deviation Indices" typo fix.
- Glossary Zen PE corrected from 0.67 to 0.63 (matches the unit 2 lesson table).
- Counting-system IDs canonicalized (hi-opt-i/omega-ii to hi-opt-1/omega-2) so when Phase 2 enables them the engine doesn't crash.
- Four more screens migrated to useGuardedRouter (paywall, personalized practice, reference results log, deviation reference).
- ~4 MB of bundle bloat removed - raw HTML scrape sources moved out of the production asset bundle.

### 1.15.0 — 2026-05-05

Count Dojo v1.15.0 — What's New
=================================================

Casino Sim — Personal Bests overhaul
- "Best Hourly Rate" replaced by Highest AV (advantage × bet — your true edge per dollar wagered, not just dollars per hour). Better signal when you've genuinely played well.
- New Best Deviation Accuracy card on the personal-bests screen — your highest-accuracy deviation streak across all sessions.
- Both stats backfilled from your existing session history on first launch, so you'll see your real numbers, not a fresh 0.

Casino Sim — Strategy lock
- True count and bet sizing now lock the moment cards hit the felt in Integrated Simulator drills, so you can't peek at the deviation answer in your bet ramp / count tracker before committing to a play.

Drill intro sheet polish
- Fixed the half-swipe-down regression where the sheet would cancel and re-snap when you flicked it.
- Footer no longer overflows on smaller phones with longer drill intros.

Personalized Practice prompt
- Fixed a freeze when dismissing or starting the prompt — sometimes the modal would lock the UI thread until you backgrounded the app.

Lesson tables — readability pass
- Every cell across every lesson table now renders at one consistent size + font (Inter 15px). Previously, columns mixing words and numbers (e.g. "A + 6" alongside "10 + 7") flipped between Inter and JetBrains Mono row to row.
- Smarter column widths: ~58 tables across all 6 units + side branches now allocate room based on actual content. Short "Action" / "Step" / "Year" columns are tighter; long "What It Does" / "Why It Matters" / "Examples" columns are wider, so descriptive text stops wrapping to extra lines just because the layout was equal-flex.

Lesson visual revamp
- The 9 remaining hand-drawn SVG diagrams in Unit 2 (Why Blackjack Can Be Beaten, Hi-Lo Card Values, Your First Running Count, Pair Cancellation, Full-Shoe Counting, Deck Countdown, Counting with Distractions, History of Counting) are gone. Pages now flow as text + typed blocks (statRow / table / conceptCard / splitAttention) consistent with the rest of the curriculum — no more dark-frame SVG element clashing with the Jade Dojo theme.
- Hi-Lo Three Groups page got a new colored statRow (+1 jade / 0 sage / -1 crimson) replacing the SVG.
- Pair Cancellation page got a new statRow surfacing the cancellation-rate stats (~30% cancel completely / ~41% have a neutral / ~29% need real math) to motivate the technique.

Card-back crest — performance
- The Count Dojo crest on every card back (drills, casino sim, lesson Scenarios) now renders as inline SVG paths instead of a PNG inside SvgImage.
- Crest also bumped a bit larger and is now theme-aware (fills with the same emerald as the rest of the chrome).

Dev mode — drill skip
- Skipping a drill or quiz in dev mode now lands you on the completion screen at synthetic 100% (with a working "Go to Next Lesson" button) instead of bouncing back to the unit path. Lets you fly through lessons quickly while reviewing content. No XP / stats / medals recorded — dev skips don't pollute progression history.

### 1.14.0 — 2026-04-30

Count Dojo v1.14.0 — What's New
=================================================

Bankroll math, sim-anchored
- Bankroll Planner now reads from 60 per-true-count {frequency, EV, SD} tables generated by a deterministic offline blackjack simulator. The legacy quadratic edge model is gone from the planner path.
- Reference penetrations deepened for 6D and 8D shoes to better match real-world shoe play.
- Late surrender, RSA, and 6:5 corrections (lsSdFactor, SIX_FIVE_SD_FACTOR) applied as deltas on top of the base table so unusual rule combos don't fall back to ad-hoc math.

Casino database submissions
- "Submit a new casino" form now searches OpenStreetMap as you type, drops the casino on the right map pin, and autofills the address, city, state, ZIP, and country in one tap.
- ZIP autofill: typing a 5-digit US ZIP fills city + state automatically.
- Inline formatters: state codes are 2-letter uppercased, phone numbers reformat to (xxx) xxx-xxxx, websites get https:// prepended, and casino names + cities are title-cased on submit.
- One submission can include multiple games (e.g. a casino with both a 6D H17 pit and an 8D S17 pit). "Add another game" + per-game remove inside the form.
- Duplicate-detection guard tightened: the matcher no longer flags "Resorts World New York City" as a duplicate of "The D" because both names contain the letter D.

Admin Intel Review
- Rule update submissions now show a per-field "before → after" diff (red strike-through old value, bold green new value) so reviewers can see exactly what's changing without scanning JSON.
- New-casino submissions render the full address block, geocoded coordinates, phone, website, and each submitted game's rule grid.
- Approving a rule update or new casino now actually persists. Previously the row visually moved to "approved" but the underlying casino_games rows weren't being touched, and on the web admin the status itself didn't even save (RLS silently denied the update).
- The casino's updated_at is bumped on every approval so the mobile delta-sync picks up the change on next sync — no more "approved but the casino still shows the old rules."
- Submission flow only sends fields the user actually changed, so editing penetration on one game no longer accidentally rewrites shuffle type or DAS.
- Submitting a rule update or new casino no longer briefly appears as a JSON-formatted note in the casino-detail Intel tab.

Community intel: real display names
- Posts in the casino-detail Intel tab now show the submitter's current display name from their profile, not the snapshot stored at submit time. Users who set a username after posting now show up by name on every historical post instead of "Anonymous."
- Admins additionally see the submitter's email next to the display name.

Pre-launch audit fixes (40+ items)
- Sync-conflict modal no longer fires on a fresh install just because the schema version bumped (transient + per-release flags excluded from the conflict projection).
- Typed routes enabled across the app.
- Drill changes apply consistently to both the practice path and the lesson path.
- Lessons that previously claimed "always X" now acknowledge H17 + late-surrender carve-outs (8,8 vs A, 17 vs A, 15 vs 10/A, 16 vs 9/10/A).
- Friendly error mappings for sign-in and purchase failures (RevenueCat error codes, network issues, cancellations).
- Account deletion + auth tracking migration fix.
- Geocoding regression fix: new casinos used to show up "5,400 mi away" because admin approval was hardcoding lat/lng to (0,0).

Plus dozens of small content + math accuracy fixes across the curriculum, drills, calculators, and sync engine.
