I had a live audition and felt really confident about the character, but couldn’t remember the lines for the life of me. I ended up using Counterpart right before my audition and now I’m recurring on a huge show! ### 5/5 — Excellent Idea! *2026-02-02* Best line learner app on the market. Easy to use and very cost effective! ### 5/5 — I LOVE THIS APP! *2026-02-02* I’ve used this app a few times since downloading and have felt so much better self-taping, and especially for doing in-person auditions and callbacks. Since I live in NYC I really like using the quiet flashcards as well to practice on the train. I love being able to sen to a friend so I can use one of my actor friends for rehearsal without having to take up too much of their time!! I really reccomend this app!!! ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Can’t sign in *2026-08-04* It won’t accept my phone number and can’t sign in any other way ### 1/5 — Utterly Unreliable *2026-07-24* Unreliable for important auditions. App routinely stops talking in the middle of a sentence, especially if the scene is several pages long. Routinely misses cues. For important emotional scenes it is absolutely infuriating, making you repeat the performance over and over because it will fail mid-sentence, omit a line altogether, or leave you hanging without responding to your cue. ### 1/5 — Confusing and doesn’t really work *2026-04-06* There is not much to it. Even with minimal functions it’s overly complicated. When trying to upload scrips it would miss pages at a time. There are a lot better options out there ### 1/5 — Can’t Sign In *2026-02-10* I put in my phone number and it would not send me a verification code so I could not use the app at all. **Developer response:** Hey there, Thank you for your feedback. We use an external service to authenticate phone numbers - They briefly faced a large outage in certain regions in the US. The login is currently back up and running. Please get in touch with hello@counterpart.actor and we will do our best to make it right. So sorry for the inconvenience. ### 2/5 — App sux when it comes to importing scripts *2026-07-07* Tried importing multiple times, multiples ways after reading FAQ explanation of how it is supposed to be done. Failed. God forbid coding the app to directly access/open the file directly……or worse, have a spot to drag and drop the file for importing. Do not wast your time. **Developer response:** Hey there, The mac app doesn't support importing. It's designed to be a reader version of the iOS app to just read scenes with you that are already set up on iOS. Sorry this wasn't clear. ### 2/5 — Great potential, lacking execution *2026-06-22* This app has the potential to be a godsend when you can’t find a reader, but the bugs it currently has make it at best infuriating, and at worst unusable. It will randomly decide it’s gonna ignore all cue words anywhere in the script (frustrating, especially while in a long scene), the first reader line echos very loudly in playback like 70% of the time (borderline unusable), and will sometimes bug an entire script so hard it will start reading a line and then skip half the script and start playing a line 10 lines ahead of where you are every time(unusable); changing cue words, manually reentering lines, deleting and reentering lines, nothing works. The script is permanently bugged, and if you’re importing it, it’s bugged forever. I suspect it’s something with the AI voice as recording the lines yourself and keeping it in your own voice seems to solve the problem. It still needs a video playback in the app so you don’t have to wait for an export to see it, and the AI voices, while novel, are mostly unhelpful as readers as they have a monotone, obviously AI delivery. As it stands, stay on the free version. **Developer response:** Hey there, Thank you for your review - it's super helpful. We are always trying to make Counterpart better, especially for taping. I’ve found, as an actor, that it’s easy to put off learning your lines sometimes and Counterpart erases that. Gone is the excuse of not having a scene partner. You upload your material into the app and you’re ready to go. It helps me to stay accountable and it allows me to enjoy the “tedious” work.
