## What is Cove?

Share a work folder with a colleague — and no cloud sits in the middle. Nothing is uploaded to a server, they never need an account, and they never see the rest of your data.

Cove is one app that does the work of five: share work folders, send full-quality photos and files, keep your devices in sync, run professional folder Sync Jobs, and clean up duplicate photos.

Light, fast, no clutter, no ads. Open it and start — no account required.

— WORK FOLDERS: SHARED, WITHOUT A CLOUD —
The thing a cloud drive cannot do: share one folder, and only that folder.
• Files move directly between your devices and theirs — never through a server
• No storage limit, because nobody is storing it for you
• They don't need an account, and they never become one of your devices
• Two-way, mirror or one-way — you review every change before anything moves

— LOSSLESS TRANSFER —
Send text, full-resolution photos, and any file between your devices with zero compression.
• Originals only — no quality loss, no app-imposed size limits
• Direct device-to-device over your local network when possible
• Pair in seconds with a QR code or short code
• A green "original · lossless" tag on every file you receive

— CROSS-DEVICE SYNC —
Your photos and notes stay in step across every device you own.
• Sign in once (optional) and your devices sync automatically
• Synced through a cloud you already own — never a Cove server
• Fully usable with no account at all

— SYNC JOBS: PROFESSIONAL FOLDER SYNC —
The kind of two-way folder synchronization people normally pay a yearly subscription for — built right in.
• Two-way sync merges both folders; if a file changed on both sides, both copies are kept
• Mirror mode makes one folder an exact copy of another
• Analyze first, review every change, then apply — nothing moves until you approve
• Re-runs move only what changed

— SMART PHOTO CLEANUP —
Took forty near-identical shots? Cove's on-device cleanup groups the look-alikes and keeps the highest-quality original, flagging the compressed copies.
• Recognizes duplicates even after re-compression
• Runs entirely on your device — your photos never leave
• Cove never deletes on its own — you review and confirm, and removal goes through the system's own recycle bin

— A NOTEBOOK YOU OWN —
A beautiful, iOS-style notebook that works entirely offline.
• Clean lists, bold titles, tap-to-check to-dos, pinning
• Everything saves the moment you type it
• Kept in sync across your devices when you want it

— YOUR DATA, YOUR CLOUD —
• Local-first: works offline and stays readable forever
• There is no Cove server holding your content
• If Cove ever disappears, your notes and files are still on your device

— WHY COVE —
• Five tools people usually buy separately, now one app — one purchase, huge value
• Works across all your devices, whatever the brand
• No ads. No pop-ups. No sign-up wall.
• Built to be stable and reliable before it is fancy

Free for a limited time. No in-app purchases.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 2.1.1 — 2026-09-25

Your devices, private by design.
- Your devices now form a group with its own random key, not your account. Removing a device really removes it: the group moves to a new key it cannot read.
- Photos from shared chats are no longer saved to your Photos library automatically, and photos and videos you send to a shared chat no longer carry their location.
- A work folder added on one of your devices appears on the others right away.
- No more banner listing every synced folder each time you open Cove.
- Devices find each other with Tailscale on, and folders with subfolders sync reliably between all your devices.
- A device still on an older version is named, with a prompt to update it.
Signed in with Apple? Link your devices once more: Account > Link another device.

### 2.1.0 — 2026-08-27

Work folders got the fixes they deserved.
- A shared work folder that sent every file but delivered none now delivers
- Folders keep themselves in step, and the button says so
- A folder no longer needs both sides online at the same moment - changes wait
in a durable inbox, so a device that was asleep still gets them
- An album is now a kind of sync you can create
- Two local folders on the same machine can Sync now, without a review step
- Eight defects found in a review of automatic sync, all fixed

### 2.0.0 — 2026-08-22

Cove now speaks thirteen languages - every screen, not just parts - with a language picker in Settings that follows your system until you choose otherwise.
- A six-screen welcome tour on first launch
- Albums load faster: the synced-album wall no longer decodes full-size originals
- The sync board stays quick with many devices
- A file too big for the relay now says so, instead of sitting at 0%
- 'Waiting for a direct link' is a real state now, and it retries itself
- Fixes: a folder card's notes stay with the card; hidden-file rules are consistent everywhere

### 1.2.0 — 2026-08-20

- Folder sync gains a real lifecycle: Pause, Reset and Remove a sync job without guesswork
- A transfer that had to wait now resumes itself instead of failing
- The sync board shows which device it is moving bytes with, and who shared a folder with you
- Re-accepting a folder you already sync no longer creates a duplicate
- Fixed: a message is filed under the room it came from
- Favorites and Favourites are treated as one album

### 1.1.9 — 2026-08-19

Sync your photo albums
Keep one album matched across all your devices — however many photos are in it. Cove identifies each photo by its contents, so the same picture is never copied twice.

Folder sync is more dependable
• A folder Cove can only partly read no longer leaves Analyze waiting — it says which place it could not read.
• Very large folders and albums now compare correctly instead of appearing to get no answer.
• When two devices edited the same file, both versions are kept and both devices agree which is which.
• A device with view-only access can no longer remove files for everyone.
• A photo you take out of an album and later put back stays put.

A free trial you can actually judge
One of each kind of sync is free and complete: one folder across your devices, one photo album, one work folder, and one two-folder job on this device — with no limit on how many files or photos are in them.

Also
Settings moved to the Devices tab, next to the things it configures.
