## What is COVID Certificate?

Keep Swiss COVID certificates easily and securely on your mobile phone

COVID Certificate is the official app for storing and presenting Swiss COVID certificates. It is developed by the Federal Office of Information Technology, Systems and Telecommunication FOITT on behalf of the Federal Office of Public Health.
In Switzerland, people who have been vaccinated, or who have tested negative or recovered from COVID can apply for a COVID certificate.

COVID certificates are issued in hard copy or electronic format serve as proof of: 
1. Vaccination against COVID-19
2. Recovery from Sars-CoV-2 infection
3. A negative result following Sars-CoV-2 test analysis

How the app works

When the app is first launched after installation on the mobile device, a brief introduction provides information on how to use it and how to scan a hard-copy COVID certificate.
In the app, the required COVID certificate can be selected, and presented if desired. The app shows the time of your vaccination or test and how long ago you had the vaccination or test. All data contained in a certificate's QR code can also be displayed.

It is possible to store several COVID certificates in the app, e.g. for family members, or several COVID test certificates.

Use of the COVID Certificate app is voluntary and free of charge.

Data protection is a top priority

COVID certificate data is stored solely on the mobile device. COVID certificates are protected by a digital seal (signature) and are thus forgery-proof.
COVID certificates are generated by the FOITT, but are not stored in a central system. That is why it is not possible to obtain a copy of an issued certificate.

The use of the app is limited to Switzerland and is subject to Swiss law.

Die App ist gut, aber was ich bemängle ist die fehlende Möglichkeit die ID hochzuladen. Dies würde das Umständliche hin & her beim Eintritt vermeiden und verbessern! 3 B: Bitte, bitte, BAG: schnellstmöglich ändern.

I am a Us tourist headed to Switzerland and registered via the website with my CDC card and other info.  Canton Bern turned around my certificate quickly (1 day) but be aware they request you register five business days ahead of your trip. Used a ‘transfer code’ and when my Certificate was ready it loaded directly into the app.  Also, I could scan my family’s QR codes that I received by email to keep all our certificates in one app.

DOES NOT WORK FOR US CITIZENS. Paid sfr 30 application fee only to be rejected as US vaccine card did not contain “a stamp by the CDC” which doesn’t even exist anyhow although the Swiss somehow feel that it does. This app is an unmitigated disaster. Thankfully most Swiss establishments are ignoring this unnecessarily complicated protocol and are accepting visitors on basis of presentation of a visitor’s photo ID and paper proof of vaccination, and of course a mask. Keep it simple Switzerland. Not everything has to be as complicated as a Swiss watch!!!

Love it because it’s needed and does it’s job well.  Hate it because requests to developers and BAG for 1) an apple watch app and 2) ability to import Covid cert into apple wallet remain ignored. 

(Also wonder why my halbtax bus pass has my picture but I need separate ID for my Covid pass. It’s ridiculous. If you want people making entry controls to do a decent job make job easy by putting pic on the certificate.)

Beyond the fact a vaccinated person outside of the EU needS to send vaccination and other ID documentation to be evaluated. In the meantime you need to get rapid tests every 48 hours. Could not generate a transfer code in the app - had to rely on email. Could not get an SMS to open the PDF without using a local number as the US don’t recognize ‘00’ - please use the ‘+’ sign instead of ‘00’ and it will work!!
