Pretty much whenever you use the map. ### 3/5 — Great game but lost all my progress *2024-06-19* I loved this game and had gotten really obsessed with it. It has great gameplay and the little missions are fun to complete. However, once I got to Tundra, and got about halfway through, my saved game will not load anymore. It still shows a file but will not load anything and just stays on the main start screen. It is a shame because I put in a lot of time and effort and it really is too bad to lose all of that. I played on my tablet, hit “sync to cloud”, saw “sync succeeded”, but when I tried to load the sync from my phone it wasn’t able to find a more recent save and seems to have overwrote whatever progress I had on my tablet. I had an issue with this in the past where I lost ~15m of progress, but now that I’ve lost a full 2 tiers of equipment, I’m not willing to return to the game. If you play this game, make sure to be very careful around your cloud syncs and try to just play on one device if possible. ### 5/5 — Resource gathering and fighting, but funny *2022-04-01, version 100.0.116* A simplified Skyrim with clever dialog. This is my first app review ever, but I so enjoyed this game I felt an obligation to tell others what a good game/adventure this is. There is lots of help on the web if you get stuck or can’t find something. The game mechanics are easy. I enjoyed this game so mush I played through it twice, once on the Adventure mode and then again on the Challenge mode. I thought that was one of the reasons for iCloud sync to exist: your important data is stored off device! Fun game, proven by the probably 40 hours I played when I temporarily uninstalled it, and lost my progress. There’s no way I’m starting over though. Having three separate biomes kept the gameplay interesting and fresh. I had a great time designing and redesigning my homestead with my pets and my potted plants and furdle field. I really felt like I could customize my game experience MY WAY, even with the weapons and armor. The juice machine was a great addition once unlocked! I have very few complaints, but what review would be complete without them right? •I wish you could look at an actual inventory to see how many of a certain thing you have. • I wish the game gave you a choice with the epic weapons (such as Megagong) to choose the weapon type. • I wish you could “track” quests, and that there was a tiny bit more direction for what to do in them sometimes. • I felt like the weapon/damage progression was too slow in comparison to the enemies you fight. • This one is petty but OMG FLUX MOVES SO FRIGGIN SLOW. Even with move speed buffs. • When it gets “dark” it’s DARK. Like even with phone brightness all the way up. Overall the game still gets a solid 5 stars from me. I just beat the game and I’ve already got all pets maxed, and all the crafting recipes unlocked. The alien guys are fun and the creative mode option is my favorite addition. The only problem is that it’s too good. I play it so much it gets me in trouble and I can’t play the next day. Also consider adding the story to creative! ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Sadge *2023-01-13, version 100.0.117* Was so hype for this when i first started playing, but as you progress you realize that the seemingly small flaws in combat in the beginning turn into glaring issues later on. Every boss enemy will one shot you unless you over level your armor, the hit boxes are scuffed leaving you dead from an obvious miss far too often, and being forced to use melee only for a while forces you to play hit and run while you pray rng kicks in and you get a stray weapon effect to shorten the fights. Not to mention the countless times where i’ll be soloing a boss and enemies from 100 feet away somehow agro on me. This game has a lot of potential, but in the end falls short due to some damning mechanics. ### 1/5 — Awful controls, zero guidance *2022-04-10, version 100.0.116* I hate games that present their worlds as though things are obvious when they aren’t. In the very first sequence, you have to collect packages behind doors that won’t open while using bad touch controls that are inconsistent, all while trying to navigate hazards. Literally can’t get further into the game, because there’s zero indication how I’m supposed to open the doors. I’ll never get another game from this developer, because I have zero trust in their ability to guide a player toward a solution. Reinstalling the game causes you to lose your progress. After reinstall and starting a new game, you will receive the same message causing you to never progress in the game. There is no way to access saves from other devices and no way carry over save from your iOS device to pc or console. This one is sci-fi, 2D and has a comic art style. That’s about all. ### 2/5 — Shouldn’t be on Arcade *2022-01-25, version 100.0.109* Can’t play on a Mac or on Apple TV, or with a controller or use cloud saves or… basically anything that we expect with Apple Arcade. It’s free, but that’s it. 😕 Shouldn’t be on Arcade. ### 2/5 — Fun game, cross device iCloud saves are broken *2022-01-21, version 100.0.109* On iPad I’m consistently getting the error “Cannot communicate with iCloud. Please check that you have enabled iCloud for this app.” I have checked, iCloud is enabled, and it’s still not syncing. Lowered the review a star because trying to get support is so terrible. The developers use Rumpus for support, but you can’t file a support ticket until you have a “verified email” with them, and that doesn’t support “sign in with Apple” when using Apples email address privacy feature. **Developer response:** Hello, sorry to hear that the game is not syncing for you. Can you please check if iCloud is enabled specifically for Crashlands+? You can check this official Apple guide on how to do that: https://support.apple.com/guide/icloud/set-up-third-party-apps-mmfeb236a772/icloud ## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated) ### 5/5 — Great game, Great battery life *2024-04-03* Today I had an unexpectedly long wait for a minor surgery… on an empty stomach, thirsty, I was told that I would have to wait another four hours! I hadn’t played Crashlands in years, but I noticed there is a plus version now on arcade so I grabbed it. First of all, I noticed additional polish and additional features in the game that we were not there when I played originally. It passed the time really well. And as an added compliment, as someone with a computer, science background, and who knows that this game was built in GameMaker, the work that must’ve gone into optimizing it… well let’s just say I’m really appreciative because I was at 44% battery on my iPhone 15 Pro Max and two hours later I was still at 18%. And as a sidenote, butterscotch shenanigans are great guys.. I know this because I once reached out to them with a game maker/computer science question (the data structures utilized) and I got a great answer which helped with my own endeavours at the time. How did you guys do this, it’s a amazing game! I love how you merge story and gameplay, it’s really good. I love the survival aspect of it! There are a few things that would be good to add, but you don’t have to: 1. Please make it easier to find squee barrels in savanna biome because a lot of important things use them. Or maybe more recipes that take squee, like a squee health potion? 2. It would be nice if there was were more bosses and story after you finish the game, because it get’s a little boring after a while. 3. Make eggs easier to find. Sometimes it’s really hard to get a monster egg, but I came up with a solution to it. But for the beginners? Thanks for reading this, I love your game! Plenty of game play on this one! Three different areas to explore. It can be played with the story or without. With the story you can die many, many, many times (and I have) Without the story you have limited number of deaths. Usually I get bored with a game after a few weeks, but this game has kept me hooked. I intend to play until there’s nothing left to do. I hope the team has plans to add more quests! Update: I have to lower this to one star because hours of play was just lost due to improper cloud syncing between devices. This needs to be fixed. I love this game — it has become my new playing obsession. The open world, the main and side quests, the crafting system, the humor — it’s wonderful. However, I would give it five stars except the game sometimes does not sync to the cloud properly, which is a problem since I play this both on my iPhone and iPad Pro. Sometimes I am asked to resolve the conflict, but other times it simply loses progress. It happens enough times that it has become frustrating. I’ve learned to manually sync to the cloud at the end of each playing session, and I check always synced saves before starting a new session.
