O Conselho Regional de Medicina do Estado do Rio de Janeiro (CREMERJ) é uma autarquia federal, criada pela Lei nº 3.268/1957, com o objetivo de promover o perfeito desempenho ético e moral da medicina e o prestígio dos que a exerçam legalmente. 

Desta forma, o CREMERJ é responsável por habilitar o médico a exercer seu trabalho e fiscalizar o cumprimento da legislação pertinente à sua profissão. É o único órgão com autonomia para expedir a carteira profissional médica, além de orientar, disciplinar e julgar eticamente os médicos.
