### 2/5 — Not free?

*2026-02-28*

All I want is the free part of the app. What happened to free with in-app purchases? Doesn't that usually mean I have the option to buy stuff or not? I downloaded this app because I was under the impression that it was entirely free with the exception of in app purchases? Which of course are usually optional. I want to see the updated crime rates for specific neighborhoods in certain cities.

### 2/5 — Just purchased and the app keeps crashing

*2025-04-17*

I just purchased and when i go to type in an address the app crashes…every time. This is sad because i really like the idea of the app. We need more, unbiased data out there to help home buyers find safe neighborhoods to live in and raise their families. Hope this bug can be fixed soon. If so, I’ll give it a better rating next time.

### 4/5 — Does it’s job!

*2023-07-02, version 5.2*

I like the app. It serves it’s purpose and is easy to use.

### 4/5 — I like the app

*2023-02-28*

I just feel that it could be more detailed… using more data to label certain areas more precisely. I’ve been vacationing a lot lately and have been checking the app regularly during my stays. Big cities are always pretty dangerous so they’re always mostly red but recently I’ll be checking and the areas and they all have the same dangerous red labels but when I speak with locals they says I’m in the rich part of town at the moment or I’m in the extremely dangerous part and I need to get out asap to protect myself but on the app they’re labeled the exact same.

### 1/5 — Greedy Developer

*2021-10-13, version 3.8*

After subscribing to the app for several years at a reasonable price, they are now extorting subscribers for $50/ year. Good app for $15, not for $50. Save your money!

### 2/5 — Too much now

*2021-10-09*

I wouldn’t have minded a little increase but to go from $5/yr to $50/yr is insane. Stop getting mad at your customers for leaving this on the reviews. This is your new business model and we’re not happy. Waiting for competition to arrive with better pricing.

### 1/5 — scammy and scuzy

*2021-10-01, version 3.7*

this app should on the crime list

### 1/5 — Free app, not free information

*2021-07-16, version 3.6*

After downloading the free app it notified me it is using sample data from 5 years ago. However, for a monthly fee it could access current data.

Not good

### 1/5 — Doesn’t work

*2021-07-01, version 3.6*

I got this today, signed up, they sent me the code, I put the code then all I get is error messages and pop ups. Disappointed. Wouldn’t recommend. If you can’t even signup, how is it suppose to “help” or “save” your life.

### 1/5 — SWITCHED ON ME

*2021-05-07, version 3.5*

Purchased it when there was no subscription. Now they want me to pay a subscription to keep using it. It’s just not the sort of service that the average person would use often enough to warrant paying a subscription.

### 1/5 — Get the Citizen App

*2021-03-01, version 3.4*

This is a pay app that does not have half of the services & features of its free competitors. Not as user friendly either.

### 1/5 — This won’t go well for you

*2021-01-15, version 3.3*

This developer has raised the subscription fee for the app by 1000%.

Yes that’s right, 1000%.

ONE........THOUSAND..........PERCENT.........

Was $5 annually, now it’s $50. That wasn’t the deal when I paid $10 for just the app alone.

There are other ways to get this data, and the accuracy of the data in the app is questionable to begin with. To be fair the developer is very good about addressing any concerns within the app and the product is very well laid out, but even still it feels like I have been stolen from by this guy which is ironic for a crime app.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Very limited

*2024-12-19, version 7.2*

This app is extremely limited on options for configuration or settings or notifications even. Uninstalling.

### 1/5 — IPAD Crash

*2023-12-10, version 6.0*

Every time I try to open it crashes.

### 1/5 — 2019 sample data?

*2023-10-14*

When you look at the map, it says that it’s 2019 sample data, which is the rough equivalent of saying, “The weather is going to be 75 and sunny… Oh wait that’s what we thought was going to be four years ago.” How do I know any information on it is even remotely relevant anymore? probably going to delete it. How pointless.

### 1/5 — Not current

*2023-08-12, version 5.4*

My map says it’s from 2019. And that a very small city next to me has a higher crime rate than New York City. Yeah, right.

### 1/5 — Crash crash!

*2022-11-23, version 4.3*

Still crash after it “supports ios16”

### 1/5 — Need an update

*2022-11-08, version 4.2*

It’s not working with the latest OS. Keeps on crashing on the 14pro.

### 1/5 — Broken App

*2022-07-11, version 4.2*

7/11/2022 Just installed the latest update, now the app crashes as soon as it tries to open. Nice work folks. 🙄

### 1/5 — Data is SIX YEARS OLD for Non-subscribers

*2022-04-16, version 4.0*

What a joke. “Sticks” Larkin, you should be ashamed for recommending such a piece of crap app! What a waste of time. Very disappointed!

### 1/5 — Can’t sign up

*2022-04-08, version 4.0*

No matter what password you put in fails.

### 1/5 — This used to be such a great resource for the $

*2021-12-30, version 3.8*

I’m really disappointed that this no longer costs $4.99yr. I used to suggest it to others but not anymore.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Crashes at Launch

*2025-08-09*

App crashing at launch on iOS 18.6. Delete and reinstall same issue. And annual subscription just renewed a week ago 😖

### 5/5 — Great for house hunting

*2024-11-21*

We use this app to find how much crime there is in a neighborhood. We are looking for a new home and this is important information.

### 5/5 — One of a kind?

*2024-08-30*

As near as I can tell this is the only app that directly helps you navigate away from dangerous places. It will also find and label places of interest based on the levels of crime nearby. It has flaws but is the best navigation safety app by default.

I don’t like subscriptions any more than the next person, but this seems worth it to me. Have recommended to family.

### 5/5 — Good travels app

*2024-08-02, version 6.9*

I like knowing the crime rate in areas when traveling. Just keeps you aware and knowledgeable.

### 5/5 — Travel Buddy Galore

*2024-06-12*

It helps me quite a bit, I've been traveling the country on foot. And understanding the different threat levels in the different areas I visit is extremely helpful.

### 5/5 — Go Police, Military, Fire Department, Freedom & Peace

*2023-11-28, version 5.7*

Thank you to people looking out keeping track of the bad guys continuing to try and disrupt our society 24/7. Id love to help.

### 5/5 — Nice layout. Old data

*2022-03-05, version 3.8*

The app itself is great. If it had current rates it’d be better.

### 5/5 — Great app for travelers!

*2021-11-11*

I have enjoyed having this app on my phone while traveling alone and while traveling with my husband. Seeing the crime stats of places we have visited before as well as new communities has been enlightening. Knowing that my grandson lives in one of the safest cities is comforting as well. Thank you Crime and Place!

**Developer response:** Thank you for your reviews. We're so happy that your grandson is living in a safe area - and that Crime and Place helps show you where crime has occurred in other areas. It is a great way to "explore" a new community before you visit it.

### 5/5 — Good

*2020-12-31, version 3.0*

Are you people nuts ? $50 for 1 year subscription good luck.

### 5/5 — Invaluable when traveling/house hunting

*2020-07-09*

Don’t leave home without it. One of only 2 apps I to which I subscribe. Before I decide to look at a property this is the first stop I make. Traveling with a young family I can easily avoid questionable areas. Would like to see this overlaid on my gps.

**Developer response:** Hi. We appreciate your comments. Once your GPS navigation has given you a route, you can use the "radar sweep" function to see crime areas around you as you drive . We'd glad you're enjoying the app. Be Safe!
