## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.4.0 — 2026-06-29

A few small updates, clearing the decks for me to start work on a major new feature!
- NEW: Sharing images via the share sheet will also suggest accompanying text for apps that support it (e.g., X, Instagram Posts, but not Instagram Stories)
- Some text details you previously entered (event details, review pull quote) are now select-and-copyable from the details page
- The onboarding view for iOS included an embarrassingly annoying bug that made stepping through everything nearly impossible. Apologies!
- Some people (I *think* only private TestFlight users) might have seen "What's new in v1.2" after seeing "What's new in v1.3" in their previous app usage. That would have been confusing.

### 1.3.0 — 2026-06-20

EXCITING NEW STUFF
- Event pages now dress for the occasion. A full-screen hero on iPhone and a tinted detail page — plus smarter headers on iPad and macOS — pull their colour straight from your key photo, so every event looks like itself.
- New weather section in event detail keeps an eye on the forecast for you. If the skies are likely to turn while you're tucked away inside, you'll get a heads-up before curtain-up (just set a duration).
- Today's cards on the dashboard now show off a full-colour background — your day, in living colour.
- The sidebar keeps things tidy, separating the always-there system filters from the custom filters you've saved yourself (iPad, Mac).
- Saved filters are yours to tinker with: edit or delete them right from the sidebar, by context menu or a quick swipe (iPad, Mac).
- Links to event pages and reviews have ditched Apple's default link style, so no more giant card-sized buttons hijacking your layout.
- Each event's document store has grown up: alongside files like PDFs, it now welcomes production and rehearsal photos and web links too.
- Quick Add (press and hold the + button) now takes a URL as well as a text description. If the two disagree on the details, you get the final say on which to keep.

JUST-AS-EXCITING FIXES
- Bulk action toolbar buttons are plain buttons again — no more mystery dropdown arrows (Mac).
- Banished a stray extra search bar from the events view (iOS only).
- Windowed event forms now reset their data properly, instead of haunting you with the last entry (Mac only).
- Onboarding got a splash more colour, and on iOS that final page now transitions as it should.
- The star rating slider has been rebuilt from the ground up, and it shows.
- When a venue won't load, the basic info now presents itself far more gracefully.
- Donating events to Spotlight is noticeably snappier.
- Squashed some CloudKit crashes for anyone sitting on years of data (hi, it's me, I'm the problem).

### 1.2.0 — 2026-05-19

BIGGEST WIN: When you share files from other apps, you can now select shows that have already started. This is perfect when you scan a QR code for a digital programme during the interval and want CritiCal to match what’s currently on. It’s a direct improvement inspired by a working critic and real-world audience timing.

OTHER UPDATES:
- Show end times are now hidden when you haven’t specified a run time, so event pages no longer show confusing “19:30–19:30” ranges.
- The Quick Add form (press and hold the standard Add button) has a smoother parsing experience, plus fixes for some macOS layout issues.
- On macOS, event forms now open as standalone windows instead of sheets on top of the main window.
- On the dashboard’s “Today” view, times are more readable in dark mode.
- Travel time estimates now display “Arrived” when you’re at or very near the venue.
- Ongoing performance optimisation in background mode, including faster, more reliable refreshing of your Home Screen widgets.

### 1.1.0 — 2026-05-13

What’s New:
- Add a photographer credit to your poster images. The credit will appear on the shared images, so their work is recognised when you share artwork on social media.
- We improved the large and medium “Next Event” widgets to display more of an event’s poster artwork, so you can spot what’s coming up at a glance.
- Today’s events now use bold, higher-contrast cards with clearer start times. You’ll also see larger, easier-to-read weather and travel time details.
- CritiCal on iPhone now supports landscape. While it’s not essential for viewing data inside the app, it’s a big upgrade for presenting e-tickets at the venue door.
- Since CritiCal is brand new, we added a direct link to Support on the Dashboard view, and we also kept the Support links in About. Got a question, comment or suggestion for a new feature? Get in touch!

Fixes:
- Improved reliability for background activity and widget updates to make CritiCal more robust when you multitask or keep widgets running.

### 1.0.10 — 2026-05-11

- Location proximity alerts are now explicitly available for all. Previously, they were advertised as a premium feature, but only the ability to switch them on and off was gated.
- Travel time estimates are now set up on demand (a "Show travel times" button in the appropriate position) if location access has not previously been granted. If location access is denied, the feature will be disabled but can be re-enabled in Settings.
- A new "Today" row on the Dashboard features extra prominence for today's event(s), with clearer travel time and weather information
- Spacing between sections in an event's detail view has been improved. Whitespace is good, too much whitespace is worse.
- The lock screen "next event" widget is now less likely to get stuck on a placeholder view
