## What is Critter?

Critter Counter is the simplest way to keep score of the animals (and anything else) you spot on a walk.

Tap once for every critter you see. We'll quietly log the time and location of each sighting so you can revisit the walk later, see exactly where you spotted what, how many you found, and how long you were out.

Track one animal or twenty. Rabbits, squirrels, hawks, frogs, neighborhood cats, mushrooms, cool rocks... whatever you want to notice, Critter Counter will count it.
Whether you're on a slow evening stroll, a morning loop through the park, or a backyard wander at dusk, Critter Counter turns noticing into a tiny, joyful ritual.

FEATURES
• Count anything: Start with the twenty common animals we ship with, or add your own. Rabbits, squirrels, owls, butterflies, or "the weird heron at the pond." It's your list.
• One-tap counters: A big, satisfying button for each thing you're tracking. No menus, no fuss. See it, tap it.
• Sighting map: Every tap is pinned to where you were standing. Review your route as a map of small moments.
• Walk history: Every walk is saved with its totals, duration, and sightings. Scroll back through every evening you've been out.
• Apple Watch companion: Leave your phone in your pocket. Count from your wrist while you walk, even with multiple critters tracked at once.
• A calm design: Dark-mode-friendly so it won't blast your eyes after sundown.
• Undo a tap: Accidentally double-counted? One button removes the most recent sighting.
• Guest mode: Don't want an account? Use the app without signing in. Your walks stay on your device.
• Optional sync: Sign in with a magic link (no password) to back up your walks and sync between iPhone and Apple Watch.

WHY USE IT
Most fitness apps care about your pace and heart rate. Critter Counter cares about what you noticed. It's a small, single-purpose app for people who pay attention to the world around them and want a record of the small wonders they've crossed paths with.

Great for:
• Daily dog walkers
• Suburban evening strollers
• Birders, naturalists, and backyard observers
• Kids learning to notice wildlife
• Anyone who finds animals delightful (so, everyone)

PRIVACY
Your location is used only to tag your sightings and draw your walk on a map. In guest mode, nothing leaves your device. If you sign in, your walks sync securely so you can see them on any device you're signed in on. We never sell your data and we don't show ads. You can delete your account and all of your data from inside the app at any time.

Happy spotting!

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 3.3 — 2026-06-26

Critter Counter 3.3 brings your workouts and your counting together and introduces Friends!

• Choose your activity: Walk, Run, Bike, or Other, and log the matching Apple Fitness workout.
• See your effort on every walk: distance, active calories, and average heart rate.
• Add friends and see what they're spotting on a privacy-protected map.
• Apple Watch walks now sync to your phone automatically in the background.

### 3.2.2 — 2026-06-12

Critter Counter 3.2.2 rounds out photos and speeds up Quick Sighting.

• Add photos to your sightings after the fact — to past walks and saved Quick Sightings.
• Remove a photo you no longer want.
• Quick Sighting now logs instantly, with your location filling in automatically.
• Add a new critter type mid-walk right from your Apple Watch.
• Privacy and reliability improvements.

### 3.2 — 2026-05-30

• UI Overhaul
• Apple Watch + iPhone now share one walk. Start on either device and the count syncs live to the other — even mid-walk handoff works.
• Walks count toward your rings. Every walk is now logged as an Apple Health workout, so it shows up in Activity and Fitness alongside your other exercise.
• Weather and route, captured automatically. Each walk records the conditions at the start, and the path you walked is drawn on the map in your walk summary. Watch-only walks get weather too.
• Add critters on the fly. Spot something you haven't tracked before? Add it without leaving the active walk.
• Smaller touches: animal list is now alphabetical, the share card looks right in light mode and at full size, the Settings "Danger Zone" sits at the bottom where it belongs, and animal icons are a fraction of their old download size.
• Fixes: walks no longer occasionally duplicate after saving, the tab bar correctly switches back to "Start Walk" after a shared walk ends, and a couple of contact details in the legal docs are now correct.

### 3.0.0 — 2026-05-23

Critter Counter 3.0 — a big one.

Rabbit Counter is now Critter Counter. You can track any animal (or anyTHING) you want, not just rabbits.

What's new:
• Track any animal (or anything). Head to the setup page and add what you want to count. We'll remember it for next time. Twenty common animals come pre-loaded: rabbits, squirrels, hawks, owls, frogs, butterflies, and more! Plus you can add anything else.
• Multi-critter walks. Tracking more than one thing? The walk screen and Apple Watch now handle multiple counters at once.
• End-of-walk summary. See your total, plus per-animal totals, for every walk.
• New name, same app. All your past walks and sightings are still here.

Also in this release:
• Watch-to-phone sync is more reliable. Walks recorded on the watch now queue and retry if the phone isn't reachable.
• A polite in-app prompt to leave an App Store review after a few completed walks. (We'd love one if you've been enjoying the app.)
• Behind-the-scenes reliability and privacy improvements.

Happy spotting!
