### 2/5 — Broken since the upgrade

*2026-04-28, version 5.9.0*

Since the app was upgraded, the mechanism for amending advance tickets has broken. If you try and update a ticket, instead of paying for the upgrade, it logs you out and takes you back to the first page of the booking journey again. Then you have to call CrossCountry on the phone to amend your ticket. Very shoddy.

### 3/5 — No longer showing platforms

*2026-03-08, version 5.8.1*

Since last update, this was my go to app to find trains and what platforms to go to, now feels clunky every think is hidden

### 2/5 — Revised App

*2026-02-03, version 5.8.0*

I prefer the interface of the old version of the app better. It’s become less user friendly, does not remember my previous entries. Not as intuitive.

### 1/5 — Disappointed

*2026-01-18, version 5.7.0*

After the latest update, it’s much better than before, but there’s a major issue—both here and in the web version. The problem is that when you try to change the date and time of a ticket (where this feature is available), everything appears to work correctly. However, when you check again to see whether a new ticket has actually been created, you realize that nothing has happened. On top of that, every attempt forces you to log in again. It would be better to test things at least once before releasing an update—just once.

### 1/5 — Since last update this is unusable

*2026-01-16, version 5.7.0*

It’s unbelievable how bad this is now, compared to before the last major update - it all changed in the summer. Prices are no longer easy to navigate (like they used to be) it doesn’t save my railcard. It’s awful!! It used to be so good!

### 1/5 — Awful

*2026-01-06, version 5.7.0*

This company used to be really well run but since their upgrade they are a disaster.

### 1/5 — Update much worse

*2025-12-29, version 5.7.0*

Currently reviewing the other train company apps which seem to have the same user interface as CrossCountry did before the recent changes.

### 2/5 — Easy to lose money; frustrating to use

*2025-12-18, version 5.7.0*

While it’s not too difficult to amend outbound tickets it is very hard to amend return journeys. It’s cost me significantly. The tickets are now less well organised in Wallet than they used to be. And the bonus used to be with Crosscountry that you could amend bookings upto 15 minutes before departure but now it’s 6pm the day before, so there’s no benefit over other train companies apps anymore.

### 1/5 — Latest version is ruined

*2025-12-11, version 5.7.0*

There’s been an update and all the brilliant features are gone or not working. It doesn’t even recognise my home station anymore! Despite the booking fee imposed I’ve moved over to Trainline, which is quicker to use, offers me better, cheaper tickets and transfers tickets to my wallet properly. I’m sorry to go but really…

### 3/5 — New app is frustrating

*2025-12-03, version 5.6.0*

The new update has made the app frustratingly worse from a user experience. Usual searches don’t store or are limited which is very annoying when on the run. Not sure why they touched this element as couldn’t fault the app previously.

### 1/5 — Awful!

*2025-11-23, version 5.6.0*

Tickets bought prior to the new app launch were not transferred over to the new app and couldn’t be changed. XC were not helpful or sympathetic.

Having bought tickets on the new app, can’t change those either even though they show as amendable. Wasted nearly an hour trying to get it to work. If you’ve booked two advanced singles instead of a return, only allows you to try and change each single ticket on its own.

Clearly app has not been tested properly.

Terrible customer experience.

### 1/5 — Update effed it

*2025-11-23, version 5.6.0*

Before the update the app was great but now everything is glitchy! Timetable search doesn’t work, checking live trains doesn’t work, bookings are hard to navigate. And as someone who buys a lot of open returns the new app makes those hard to retrieve and they take ages to load even when on my apple wallet. Plus it’s so ugly now -1000/10. Put it back the way it was!!

### 1/5 — Shocking so called “Upgrade”

*2025-11-16, version 5.6.0*

Previous version was really easy to navigate and use. I’ve been using the new version since launch and it is all over the place. Completely useless and am about to delete from my iPhone

### 1/5 — new update is BAD

*2025-11-13, version 5.6.0*

I have used this app for over 12 years and has always been my go to. But I have no idea why the new update is so terrible? Not at all user friendly, harder to see fares, the calendar is annoying as it starts on a Sunday and more difficult to pick different dates to look at - and it makes it oddly difficult to just select an option for a day return having to jump through several hoops to do what was very simple before. Please change it!!!

### 1/5 — New update has broken the app

*2025-11-04, version 5.6.0*

The app worked perfectly before. And now I can’t find any trains to book. The app is completely broken and now I have book on a new app

### 1/5 — Ruined a usable app

*2025-11-04, version 5.6.0*

Since the latest update you have completely ruined this app. The UI is worse and all seems very antiquated. You cannot look at earlier train times without getting em error message and trains no longer show which platform they are expected on. Change it back it’s rubbish as it is

### 1/5 — Terrible update

*2025-11-03, version 5.6.0*

This latest update has made the app unusable. I can’t buy a ticket, the address lookup didn’t populate my address correctly and the in app support message option doesn’t always accept text suggestions. I’ll go via another app, a shockingly bad update

### 2/5 — V5.6.0 much worse

*2025-11-02, version 5.6.0*

Cross country is great for the 0 admin fees to change advance tickets. However the latest update makes it very difficult to check the live times of the trains you are planning on. The Live Trains section gives nonsensical information about completely different routes than the ones selected.

### 3/5 — Major update – major problems with the app.

*2025-11-02, version 5.6.0*

Up to now this has always been our go-to app for booking train tickets. But the recent update has brought significant difficulty, where all too often it gives the message “no journeys found“, when there are lots of journeys available. It’s also really unhelpful that when booking a return ticket the prices seen initially are for each leg of the journey.

I still have a little residual loyalty, but it is quickly being eroded – and there are _plenty_ more train ticket apps out there.

### 1/5 — Doesn’t work

*2025-10-29, version 5.6.0*

Can’t select times of travel and then it doesn’t return any results on a main route.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Doesn’t show bike reservation

*2026-06-06, version 5.12.0*

Booked a ticket through the cross country website and clear the booking clearly shows the bike reservation. The booking details for the journey on the app don’t show the bike reservation. The Booking Confirmation email doesn’t show the bike reservation either.

### 1/5 — Updates have ruined this app

*2026-05-23, version 5.11.0*

This app used to be so helpful. Now it’s full of bugs, weird quirks, lack of information. I’m deleting it today.

### 1/5 — Poor service and rubbish app

*2026-04-28, version 5.10.0*

Travel often and always hate cross country. Trains are old and smelly. Some great staff but others aren’t.

Zero customer care

### 1/5 — Worst update ever

*2026-04-04, version 5.9.0*

Absolutely terrible. One stand out failure is I cannot seem to find the platform number anywhere! Look at all the other 1 star reviews for all the other failures. Utterly useless, I hope whoever came up with this didn’t get paid. I’d be asking for my money back. Why do almost all app updates these days just seem to make the app worse?

### 1/5 — Used to be good, now useless

*2026-04-02, version 5.9.0*

You've taken a very good App and replaced it with a useless one. Booked one ticket after much hassling. Went to buy another and it says my email is not recognised. So I switch off the phone and on again. Now I can select the out journey date but it won't allow me to select the time. Waste of time

### 1/5 — Right of Nonsense

*2026-03-17, version 5.9.0*

When Cross Country Trains are late they have right of way in the North of England causing Northern Trains to be delayed or cancelled while XC trains keep operating. This causes Northerners to loose their jobs, miss bus connections and miss flights from airports when NT have to pull over and let this southern operator past in the North. This week a XC train was 15 minutes late causing a NT to be delayed by 15 mins. This meant the delayed NT service (a victim of XC monstrosity) ended up carrying passengers for the NT 30 mins behind and it became clogged up and NT passengers missing the airport bus from Leeds for there flights to the European Union. XC trains are the talk at NT owned stations as a threat to Northerners and the North of England’s economy.

### 1/5 — Poor app - Trainline is better

*2026-02-25, version 5.8.1*

The app is poor and it automatically log out. I think Trainline is better option only downside is paying extra booking fees.

### 1/5 — Used to be great

*2026-02-19, version 5.8.1*

All great things come to an end eventually. The app is broken following the update in late 2025. Oh well … better get used to admin fees from Train line 😭 we had it good for a while

### 1/5 — Bugs bugs BUGS

*2026-02-08, version 5.8.0*

Reducing rating to 1 star as can't even submit query via website due to bug with postcode checker. Encountering a bug when amending journey, app crashes or error message comes through after hitting "pay" for the amended journey. In this case the payment was £0 as journey was of equal value. Please fix. On iOS

### 1/5 — Bugged

*2026-01-22, version 5.7.0*

Frequently crashes and closes the app when I try enter a station in the journey search page. Also when I try to look into live journey details on a train I just get a blank page. I am on the latest IOS 26

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Change tickets - zero admin fees

*2025-10-17, version 5.6.0*

The fact that you can change booked ticket dates on this app without a nonsensical £10 ‘admin’ fee that all the other train apps charge puts it head and shoulders above the rest. The app itself is fine and easy to use.

UPDATE : the new app (oct 2025) is a massive step back. Why do companies break things that work just fine as they are?

### 5/5 — Great app

*2025-08-13, version 5.5.4*

Great app never had a problem booking a ticket. Very straight forward to use.

### 5/5 — My New Favourite Train Tickets App

*2025-06-30, version 5.5.2*

Reviewing my previous review of this app, I find they have fixed almost all the issues I previously had with it.
I initially Switched to this app when the GWR app was playing up- but will now stick with this one because:
It keeps you logged in without having to do this every time you open the app
It now takes Apple Pay
It remembers that I have a Senior Railcard so that’s selected by default
You can now save tickets directly to Apple Wallet from the App
AND it automatically deletes tickets from the Apple Wallet once they’ve expired- an incredibly small detail but a nice touch
Job done!

### 5/5 — The best U.K. train app I’ve found

*2025-05-10, version 5.5.2*

Really like this app. It’s reliable and updates by the minute. No fees for booking is also great.

### 5/5 — Jess

*2025-04-21, version 5.5.2*

I always use this app to book my train tickets. Very easy to use and always keeps you updated

### 5/5 — Easy

*2025-03-05, version 5.5.1*

This app is really easy to use and, as a bonus, you can pay with Apple Pay.

### 5/5 — My New Favourite Train Tickets App

### 5/5 — Makes trains easier

*2025-02-09, version 5.4.11*

I can’t complain. It’s easy to buy tickets - the price isn’t marked up too. Makes getting travel sorted a much simpler job. Idk it does what it says it does and it’s convenient

### 5/5 — Change tickets - zero admin fees
