We're working on simplifying this flow (auto avatars etc) but we did want to form a community where we can show leaderboards for folks in a meaningful way. We use Google and Apple sign-ins so we can enable friend-to-friend play, mobile-web sync, and offer you deep comparative analytics on your game play that are otherwise impossible without sign in.
