### 4/5 — Great, Somestimes way to Encrypt on the Cloud

*2019-05-01, version 1.3.8*

While some minor UI issues, this app and tool has worked as advertised. I appreciate having a guaranteed endpoint encryption option even on Cloud services that claim end-to-end encryption, when it turns out there are still several vectors in to their services.

I’d prefer that the folders are completely hidden/masked when not unlocked but I am sure a feature that developers can work. Additionally the iOS Files integration is still a bit spotty. Sometimes forcing me to save unencrypted on iCloud or device to then move it into a Vault. Once they fix some of these issues and update their mascot/logo (a bit hideous for a legit company), definitely will update to 5 stars!

### 1/5 — Broken. Do not endanger your files!!!

*2022-04-12, version 1.6.3*

I have no idea how this crap is supposed to be an improvement over regular Cryptomator, which never gave me issues.

While I am able to create new folders just fine with 2.0, it actually *crashes* when I attempt to view the folder and asks for the password again. Is there some kind of size limit before it crashes? Could you pretty please tell us what this invisible rule is so that we might have the privilege of accessing the files we paid you to encrypt?

I also am completely unable to ADD any new pictures to folders. As in, it does not work, period. I have tried it in every way — grabbing dozens or just one picture at a time — and they do not appear in the folder. Even when viewing the same folder on my laptop, it is completely empty. Strangely, I have successfully transferred some .PDF paperwork files, but not a single iOS native photo or video.

What this app essentially does is nominally allow more seamless integration of Cryptomator folders into iOS Files, but this doesn’t matter because you will not be able to access large folders nor transfer photos.

Don’t waste your time, sanity, or potentially whatever files you entrust to this garbage app. And for the love of god, do NOT pay them money for it!

### 2/5 — Fix search please

*2022-08-21*

Have patiently waiting for 4 years for you guys to fix/update the search functionality but nothing.

I have my files within folders and search only finds documents within the folder that you are in. Makes it so hard to use it on the iPhone/iPad. You have to know what folder/sub folder are your files to find them. Not the same experience from a computer.

Time to move on to bitwarden I think.

### 2/5 — Does not integrate with ios 11 files app

*2018-04-07*

It is annoying to edit files stored in a vault because they have to be copied locally to the device, edited, then copied back into the vault, also when accessing the vault from multiple devices, changes appeared not to sync, deleted files were still there on other devices. I expected better integration from a paid app.

### 3/5 — good but buggy

*2020-12-20*

The app is great and does things as advertised.
But their are concerning bug.
When you set vault to auto-lock instantly, it does lock normally on most condition. But when you turn off and turn on the screen of the device while viewing certain file, the vault is not locked and can’t be locked until I restart the app. I think this is a serious security issue and I hope it will be fixed soon.

### 3/5 — Close to perfect.

*2020-05-20, version 1.5.0*

Update: since my original review, a cache feature has been added. It still doesn’t let you pick and choose which files you’d like to have offline, but it’s better than nothing. Beware that it will start to take up lots of space if you use the app often, and the only way to reclaim that space is to clear the entire cache. That means any offline files you had get cleared and you have to open them up again to make them accessible offline again. It can be a hassle on devices with less storage.

Original review:
My only gripe with the iOS version is the inability to download files onto my device while keeping them in an encrypted vault. I often work and travel in bandwidth constrained environments (remote locations with no signal, flying without wifi, etc) and can’t use Cryptomator because I’m not connected to the internet. I don’t want to download unencrypted versions of the files from Crypomator partitions onto my device due to their sensitive nature. Being able to store encrypted files locally with Cryptomator would make it the ultimate secure storage solution for me.

### 3/5 — No Folder Upload in iOS

*2020-04-11, version 1.4.3*

App works, and the concept is great. For some the shortcoming(s) of not being able to upload folders via the app and duplicate file name issue will be able to be worked around - for others these will be reasons to not purchase.

Folders can’t be uploaded via the app itself - only selecting individual files is allowed. When you use the Share menu via the Photos app (which does allow you to select all) Cryptomator decides that all/a majority of your selected photos are duplicately named and the upload can’t proceed until the file(s) are renamed.

I thought perhaps this was actually due to duplicate photos, but this is not the case - I would suggest everyone to go look at the Cryptomator iOS App help tag on their forums prior to app purchase.

### 3/5 — Upload Folder

*2020-01-22*

Not being able to upload folders is a huge headache. Its only allowing to upload files. Plus, the iOS and MacOS are not truly in sync. I didn’t know this until after the purchase o_O. The concept of this app is good, but really need to fix these issues.

Please fix or provide a remedy. Thanks

### 3/5 — Can’t open from “Files” app

*2020-01-18*

A lot of cloud services as well as local storage can be accessed via the native iPadOS/iOS Files app. Maybe I’m missing something, but from what I can tell, Cryptomator doesn’t seem to have a way to open a vault from the Files app, which limits you to using the cloud services built in as options in the app. Unfortunately this means I can’t use it a planned. Still great to see Cryptomator supported on iOS nonetheless!

### 4/5 — IOS Files Integration

*2021-03-03*

I love this tool but can’t use it yet. I’ve paid to use a competing product simply because I require the IOS Files integration. I know it is slated to come and on that day I will be 100% Cryptomator.

Still giving 4 stars because this is such great work and I recognize that FOSS sometimes takes a little longer.

### 4/5 — Great Concept, Annoying Bug

*2019-12-15, version 1.4.3*

Great idea for encryption and privacy however it’s frustrating because the app times out on every single upload and even while just trying to create a folder. Have to keep force quitting this and other apps trying to send files to it. The files successfully upload but Cryptomator sits there and hangs, holding the other app and your screen hostage. Hope there’s a fix on the way.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Please don't force us to use the new version

*2022-10-02, version 1.6.3*

I don't want to upgrade to Cryptomater 2, it forces me to download my files to unencrypted folders. I don't want my stuff visible to Apple, I want it to stay encrypted. Otherwise it will just defeat the purpose. I will even pay for full encryption a second time as long as I don't have to expose my documents to Apple.

### 5/5 — Essential

*2021-12-21, version 1.6.2*

This application is essential to anyone looking for complete control of their privacy when backing up to a cloud service. The files integration is excellent. The only two downsides are no thumbnail previews unless you download a file which takes up local storage. The cache has to be cleared manually (should probably include an expiration system).

### 5/5 — Very straightforward

*2021-10-31*

Clean user interface and quick synchronization across my devices. I would still like to see an option to compress folders into zip files and share them via email, rather than having to share all files individually

### 5/5 — Perfect to to prevent Corp eyes from prying

*2021-09-26, version 1.5.1*

I’ve used Cryptomater for a couple of years now to block cloud storage providers from scanning my files. While that’s still my primary objective I now work for a corporate company who relies on Microsoft 365 and OneDrive. So this prompts an opportunity to use Cryptomator to protect my files from the potential prying eyes of the IT department. I recommend this for all employees of any size company to protect their data.

### 5/5 — Amazing Tech!

*2020-07-17*

I’m allowed to use my company issued computer for personal business, but they sync everything, so there goes my privacy. And what if their data gets hacked later? So I encrypt all my stuff and sync it on Google Drive. It’s all the security you thought you had already, but you were mistaken. This is what you need to protect your privacy.

### 5/5 — Simplicity at its Best

*2020-05-13*

Really liked the simple solution that works for any cloud storage. Have been searching for this kind solution which works across all platforms and devices. Finally found one. Though price is on higher side but apparently worth it.

### 5/5 — Fantastic! Just understand what you're getting

*2020-05-10, version 1.5.0*

I've donated to this project and also paid full price for the ios version. This is by far the best cloud encryption software you can get.

Just understand what the ios version is... You're paying for the app, which allows you to manage single files. You are not going to get access via the file app, swiping of images, or anything else fancy. The app is as basic as can be, but it does the job of getting you access to files when needed.

### 5/5 — Hope to add picture thumbnail function;

*2019-10-25*

After unlocking, hope to add a function. When viewing pictures, you can slide left and right to view the pictures before and after. Also hope to add a picture thumbnail function, which is very useful when there are many pictures.

### 5/5 — easy to read files from dropbox

*2019-04-01*

it is able to read txt, pdf, and csv files in a vault, created on desktop. However, it does not support editing files directly in the app. Its better to do editing on desktop.

### 5/5 — Perfect!

*2018-02-06, version 1.3.0*

I have been trying all sorts of encryption apps this week and I am glad I found Cryptomator. It does exactly what I need it to do. Easily protect my files on my Dropbox. Dropbox has the best syncing and now I have the best encryption to protect my files. And it unlocks my encrypted files with Face ID on my iPhone X. Very easy to upload encrypted files to my Dropbox from within the Cryptomator app. Highly recommended!
