It is paywalled. I appreciate such privacy endeavours cost money, and I’ve no issues paying for it, but there is no way of testing with any longevity due to being paywalled. A continuous but modest allowance should be considered rather than a ‘trial period’. I’ll source this encryption elsewhere. 3 stars as any privacy focussed app deserves praise irrespective of peculiar commercial decisions. ### 4/5 — Good but has no search functionality *2026-05-14, version 3.0.1* $30 for a license is expensive but then, there’s no alternative. What makes me look for alternatives is not having a simple search function. Dann kann man gespeicherte Dateien weder löschen noch sonst wie editieren. Das gibt echt ein Kuddelmuddel im Back-up Ordner und ist so nicht mehr zu gebrauchen. Dieser Fehler betrifft nicht nur eine einzelne Cloud, sondern alle Clouds, d.h. von verschiedenen Anbietern. An der Cloud liegt es also nicht. Außerdem: wenn man beim hochladen, mal keine Fehlermeldung bekommt und in der Dateien App prüft, ob die Datei wirklich hochgeladen ist, wurde, steht dort "warten ". Der Upload wird also nicht wirklich ausgelöst, und man wähnt sich fälschlicherweise in Sicherheit. Darüber hinaus: Manche Dateien, die man in den Tresor hochlädt, können nicht geöffnet werden. Man müsste also jede hochgeladene Datei nachträglich überprüfen. Es gibt auch keinen Support. Der neueste Spaß, den sich Cryptomator auf meinem iPad erlaubt (aktuelles IOS): Die App belegt sage und schreibe 90 GB Datenvolumen vom lokalen iPad Speicher. Dabei sind sämtliche Safes extern. Sie sind auch vollständig hochgeladen. Cryptomator hätte keinen Grund am iPad so viel Speicher zu klauen. Einzige Lösung für mich: Cryptomator App löschen und neu installieren. Das hat wenigstens geklappt. Zur Zeit bin ich dabei, mich von dieser App weg zu orientieren. Ist nicht mehr verlässlich. Und wenn man die Probleme in der Community postet, kümmert sich keiner, und das über Monate. ### 1/5 — Changed the app *2026-04-22, version 3.0.1* Incredibly disappointed with the update. The app used to be free. You could upload and download from cloud platforms no problem. Now, an open source app is asking me for a subscription?! Why would I use this stupid service, when I can get Proton Drive or any other encrypted service for cheaper AND with less bugs whilst not depending on the Google/Microsoft/etc… ecosystem. This icon is so ugly that people can't stand it. ### 1/5 — Thumbnail previews visible even when vault is locked *2026-03-01, version 2.7.3* I feel this app has a lot of potential but there is a huge security flaw regarding the integration with the Files app. If you have photos and videos in a locked vault, clicking on the Cryptomator vault icon in the Files app will display all the thumbnails and filenames and folder names, even when the vault is locked. You can even grab a screenshot or click into a folder within the locked vault if you’re quick enough. Works through iPad file manager directly too without opening the App . Having had a reasonable time to assess it I am happy to buy it for £10 . Não há outro igual em segurança. ### 5/5 — Great for my needs (so far) *2025-11-24, version 2.7.2* Because I’m just traveling with my iPad/iPhone, I was able to use the app for 30d in trial mode. The app is free except for the Apple devices where you won’t be able to write without the license. During the trial I kept a duplicate of all files in my Files storage just to make sure I did not lose anything. I was able to save/write to storage, edit files stored in storage, etc. So after the trial ended, I decided to get the lifetime license because I like to keep things that are good. I like to be able to keep my files in the cloud to be free from “sneaky” eyes. And I use GDrive and OneDrive. And everything looks fine. But yesterday, I renamed a folder on my iPad and quickly changed to another folder without waiting for the name change to complete. And now it just says “Unavailable, something happened, an error…” I shut down my device, restarted it and still nothing. And I said to myself “is this what happened to others as I’ve read in some of the reviews?” No. I did not believe so. My virtual copies are still working on my iPhone, which means that I only corrupted the copies on my iPad. So removed the virtual copy from my iPad and added it back again. And Voila! Everything was there. So I believe I made a good choice is believing in this app. It’s a great app and please keep it great.
