The built in presets are great. The iPad version has a lot more sound editing capability in terms of preset creation plus includes a keyboard interface. The iPhone layout is powerful given the screen size and this is the way a great universal app should be. This is totally my loss! After diving into it on the ipad, it has become one of my favorites alongside Nave and several others. Crystal's modulation routing matrix among other features just make it such an incredible tool for making fantastic sounds that can evolve or cut or whatever you need. It's crazy good. Highly recommended! I am a professional composer/ engineer/musician/sound designer and I'm crazy grateful that this was ported to the ipad. Sell it to me again *2014-04-08, version 2.0.3* Yes I want to buy crystal synth xt twice. My suggestion is an in app purchase for the less feature rich crystal synth, allowing crystal synth to function as a second instance on crystal synth xt. Yes I will be willing to pay the same cost for a second instance of crystal synth xt, I love it that much. I want to support you guys, I don't know if that is too much trouble dealing with in app purchases, but I would gladly buy it. I use multiple instances of NLog and Sunrizer, but the flaw with those apps is I cannot run two instances of either on an iPhone or iPod because neither are universal. Crystal synth and crystal synth xt are already both universal. Ideally for receiving midi data from genome and lemur, i would run both instances of crystal synth audio through audiobus into whatever iOS DAW I'm running currently. Sorry if this is not where you want suggestions, I cannot find a valid contact link. So if I have not made it abundantly clear, crystal synth xt is really really great. Right after this review I am going to go buy the basic version of crystal and cross my fingers. Btw thank you for the Dropbox updates, very useful. ### 5/5 — Excellent! *2014-03-06, version 2.0.3* The only complaint I have about this synth is the aesthetic could be improved....the app icon is horrible. Other than that, this is an amazing instrument, and should be in any serious musicians arsenal of tools. I love it! ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — clicks and crashes *2012-07-30, version 1.8* No good. The idea is great. It crashes on ipad2 with latest OS. It sounds are ok until you try to adjust parimeters, then all clicks and then crash. No good. Newest update does not solve the crash issue. Horrible app. This app is no fun. The sounds are not up to par with other synth apps like Animoog and TC-11. I do realize that it is cheaper in price, but the bar has been set. Adjusting parameters in this app is no fun. The interface is not too good. I would recommend avoiding this app and getting something better. ### 1/5 — No Polyphony = No Fun *2012-02-29, version 1.5* It's great that you can share patches with the desktop version, but the lack of polyphony on the iOS version is a serious deficiency. It's confounding that the desktop version supports polyphony on a 500 MHz PC, but the iOS app doesn't support polyphony even on an iPad 2 with multiple 1+ GHz cores. Otherwise, the preset system varies from version to version, on my iPhone, I can find different folders, on the iPad there is only one folder. Yes, this old app has always been ahead of its time… I find myself using the working versions of it still. **Developer response:** Hi - Crystal Synth XT was recently updated to 2.1.9, which includes a fix for a crash which sometimes occurs when launching the app. Can you please download version 2.1.9 and see if that fixes the problem you reported? Thanks. ### 2/5 — Not impressed *2017-01-26, version 2.1.4* Have only just started using this on my iPad Air 2 and whenever I play a chord on the screen keyboard I hear sharp crackles. No other app does this and it is not due to high cpu usage according to the cpu meter. Turning down volume levels, etc. does not help. The problem goes away when using an external MIDI keyboard. Most of the presets are monophonic and to be quite honest, are really not inspiring at all. The presets are presented as a long list of an unnumbered names with no folders, categories, or favorites to assist in finding your own patches. ### 2/5 — Audiobus fails *2016-05-31, version 2.1.3* iPad Air. Latest iOS. Breaks up when switching between apps. Sounds great when it works. ### 2/5 — Has Potential... *2015-10-22, version 2.1* This app has plenty of great sounds, but there are so many issues. The main one being crashing. I am running the latest iOS and have the most current version of this app. I am running the app on an iPhone 6. This is the first app I have encountered, since I acquired this phone, that crashes on a regular basis. There are also many small glitches within the app that arouse as time goes on. There are broken links, issues with recording, glitchy inconsistent rhythms, and a subpar interface. This app has so much potential to be great, but it has way too many issues for me to even consider using it for any work right now. I gave it 2 out of 5 stars, instead of 1, because I believe a little hard work from the developers can make this a great app. As of right now, I do not recommend that anyone buy this app. ### 2/5 — buggin *2012-01-29, version 1.5* the sound just starts becoming distorted and buggy about as soon as I press a note on the iphone 4. Seriously, the sound quality, the warmth and analog feel of this Synth is nothing short of stunning! Finally our IOS hardware is catching up and this gem can be fully enjoyed to the max, especially after the developer brought it up to date. If you don't believe me, i think there's still a free version, not sure. But for the price of admission, just skip a latte and get the most awesome synth for such a low price! One request to Mr. Developer: Could you please transform this beauty to the AUv3 standard? Would love to be able to have multiple instances of this in Modstep, AudioBus3, AUM or Auria Pro!!!!
