### 1/5 — Total Failure

*2026-03-12, version 2.2*

I use a password manager.
This app won’t interact with a password AND you can’t copy paste a secure password into this app.

### 1/5 — Why won't you take my money?

*2026-03-07, version 2.2*

Why build an app that doesn't facilitate selling tickets? I cannot log in!

### 1/5 — PLEASE bring this app into the 21st century

*2025-12-27*

This is effectively just a browser window. It’s not obvious (or even possible??) to find train schedules in the app, and forget about trying to coordinate with a Metro North train. Especially disappointing considering how good the MTA TrainTime app has gotten recently. Can CTRail borrow their engineering team a little bit to bring this app into the future???

### 1/5 — Outstanding

*2025-12-27*

The level of complete obsolescence is a feat of modern design and engineering rivaled by few. I’d like to applaud whichever half-sentient beings created this monstrosity, but clearly it would fall on deaf ears given the number of pleas to modernize this app that have gone untended. In particular, I would like to recognize the complete lack of ease, over-complication, and gratuity that reflects that of Connecticut itself. This app is like the DNC trying to fix systemic problems in America, except they atleast have enough sense to throw our tax dollars in large wads at the corpse until they can claim thy saw it move.

### 1/5 — App not displaying purchased tickets

*2025-11-26, version 2.2*

I purchased two tickets through the app using Apple Pay. The tickets show up in my email as purchased, but do not show up in the app. Therefore I can’t use the tickets on my phone.

### 1/5 — liar app

*2025-10-31, version 2.2*

terrible!! app wouldn’t let me create an account, claiming the email was in use. I’ve never made an account with that email before, but I tried to do the password recovery steps anyway. When I submitted, it said there’s no account with that email address! Make up your mind???

### 2/5 — Functional but looks from another decade

*2025-10-11*

I was able to purchase a ticket easily enough but wow this app looks like it was developed in 2010. Outdated tech like this makes public transit riders feel like 2nd class citizens. CT Rail could learn a lot from MTA’s TrainTime app, which is both easy to use and looks modern. There is also no way to view schedules in the app, which is totally inexcusable.

### 1/5 — Does not work

*2025-09-01*

The app does not work. Won’t let me into account, I try to get password changed says my email doesn’t exist, try to recreate my account says it already exists, tried it with both of my emails and my husbands and continued to do the same thing. I am an iPhone user no problems with other apps.

### 1/5 — Ticket machine broke and app doesn’t work

*2025-08-28, version 2.2*

Ticket machine broke and app doesn’t work at all

### 1/5 — Outdated

*2025-08-16*

This application despite having an update as recent as a month ago seems relatively behind iOS platforms. The font, inability to copy and paste, and the graphic layout are archaic compared to other travel applications. I declined the Face ID in concerns of this apps security. I may just buy my ticket with cash, as the older websites tend to be prone to hackers. I would have expected a better website for such a prestigious travel platform. Can be easily a few more stars with a better GUI.

### 1/5 — Useless

*2025-06-23, version 2.1*

Incredibly difficult to use, I’m sure in large part because it is completely outdated and running on iOS3

### 1/5 — Terrible

*2025-06-13, version 2.1*

This app feels like it was designed decades ago. It is slow, doesn’t feel secure and incredibly difficult to use. It doesn’t use any of the phones native tools like “save password” or autofilling email/contact info.

### 1/5 — Garbage

*2025-04-15, version 2.1*

Trying to make a new account, the app rejected my email as being in the system… and, thinking maybe I’d signed up previously, tried to reset my password. The app then claimed my email (now typed in like 10 times) wasn’t in the system. Get your act together CT Rail.

### 1/5 — Useless

*2025-04-14, version 2.1*

Downloaded the app but never got an email to complete. Checked spam folder as well. Totally useless. I’d rather walk.

### 1/5 — Update the app..

*2024-12-16, version 2.1*

Please.

### 1/5 — Please just use the website

*2024-11-07*

If you read any app review in your life, it’s this one. The devs seriously need to fix this; imagine being in a rush pulling up your ticket you’ve bought beforehand. Only to find out the app can no longer connect to service, forcing you to buy another ticket that you already bought. Which you also cannot use the receipt for.

### 2/5 — Access to a schedule ?

*2024-10-26, version 2.1*

How can this not be available? Are you kidding? 🤣🤣🤣

### 2/5 — Doesn’t work

*2024-08-27, version 2.1*

Get on the train and have no way to buy a 10 trip ticket so have to pay higher price

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Don't take my word for it

*2026-05-31, version 2.2*

It's possible this app was designed by a five year-old who's never been to school. Just read the other one star reviews and you'll get the picture pretty quickly.

### 1/5 — This app could’ve been made in the 1960s and no one would’ve known

*2026-05-20, version 2.2*

Utter trash, a total waste of time I would rather carve into a tablet, then have to use this piece of trash app. If the lowest bitter bid five dollars in the state took it I wouldn’t have been surprised this might be the only app AI is capable of doing better

### 1/5 — Awful

*2026-05-14, version 2.2*

Horrible App. Don’t even bother.

### 1/5 — Worst app in history

*2026-04-06, version 2.2*

Completely broken, impossible to create an account, reset password, etc. How are we supposed to buy tickets for the train if the app is broken?? Incredibly frustrating.

### 1/5 — Not user friendly

*2026-04-06, version 2.2*

The user interface on this app is atrocious.

### 1/5 — As bad as everyone says, if not worse

*2026-04-04*

Even if I were to overlook the atrocious UI, the app is literally unusable. Attempting to create an account says my email is already in use, but attempting to reset my password says there’s no account associated with my email. I’m stuck in an endless time loop, experiencing a level of insanity and brain tissue degradation I can only imagine is similar to what this app’s designers must have been undergoing for years in order for them to think it would be acceptable to release something like this to the public. Avoid at all costs.

### 1/5 — does work half of the time

*2026-03-24, version 2.2*

hasn’t been updated in a decade probably

### 1/5 — Unusable

*2026-03-23, version 2.2*

Could not even make an account and you can not use it without an account

### 1/5 — Absolute worst app

*2026-03-19*

After 1 painful hour I have finally installed and updated a weak password, which I used just to create my account. My password app did not recognize this site, therefore the weak password, Once I established an account, I had to call to find the path for changing the password. No option was listed. BTW, you have to logout to see it. Not worth the anguish and time

### 1/5 — Horrible app

*2026-03-17, version 2.2*

No schedules available any longer on an app to buy train tickets? Is this a joke?

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Functional and easy to navigate

*2025-05-15*

A lot of apps these days have difficult to use designs but this is straight forward and accessible. The text is big and does the job. Many low reviews here criticize the layout and design but I have no complaints. Keep it as it is!

I commute every day with CTRail and I think the illustration and large buttons are quite useful. My elderly parents also have an easy time navigating. If there are changes to the app it would change the ease for a large user base that relies on accessibility.

### 5/5 — Never an issue with it

*2022-12-29*

I use this to travel to work. Never had an issue with it.

### 5/5 — CT Rail e ticket app - glad to see this!

*2020-02-11, version 1.1*

Easy to download and super simple to use.

### 4/5 — Works fine

*2024-08-27*

I was able to make an account within the app and purchase my tickets fairly quickly. Interface is a little dated but in my experience it still does the job just fine.

### 4/5 — Does what it needs to do

*2021-06-13*

I give this a good rating because it fulfills its purpose - I can buy a ticket and it is accepted by the train conductor. I don’t really care about the UI but I do agree with other reviewers about the potential security risks of only being able to pay by credit card and not Apple Pay (even though it says the option is available).

### 3/5 — Ct sticks

*2023-08-17, version 2.0*

Why does every web site CT has look like a 5th grader developed it?

### 3/5 — Does what it needs to do.

*2023-02-19, version 1.9*

Good app but it looks like it hasn’t been updated since the iPhone 5. Update it!

### 3/5 — Please add updated train schedules

*2022-09-17, version 1.7*

Please

### 3/5 — Decent, UI needs improvement

*2021-09-07, version 1.4*

The process for buying and displaying eTix could be improved by reducing the number of browser windows that appear in the app.

### 3/5 — Needs a little help

*2021-06-13, version 1.4*

It’s decent. It’s great that there are finally ETix for the Shoreline, so hooray them. But it would it be so terrible to add a schedule(s) page? Would be nice to be able to do all one’s rail business in one app, instead of having to go check the website for train times.
