## What is CuaderNote?

Take notes, highlight your PDFs, and review with spaced repetition flashcards. New: study the day's cards on Apple Watch, with your iPhone nearby or not. Spelling dictations read each card aloud and correct you letter by letter. Built for iPhone, iPad, and Mac.

CuaderNote brings notes, handwritten notebooks, reading, annotation, and flashcards into one native workflow. Capture an idea, connect it to what you are reading, turn it into a card, and review it without moving your study material between apps.

WRITE

Create focused notes with a block-based editor designed for learning. Structure ideas, connect related notes, and turn what you write into flashcards using simple inline syntax.

DRAW

Think visually in a notebook. Handwrite with Apple Pencil on iPad, sketch diagrams, add shapes, and keep visual notes beside the rest of your library.

READ

Import PDFs and EPUBs or save web articles. Highlight in four colors, annotate, draw directly on PDFs, and keep a companion note beside your reading. Select a word to look it up in the dictionary, and read books and articles in White, Sepia or Night, or let the theme follow light and dark mode. If you delete a highlight or a sticky note by mistake, Undo brings it back.

REMEMBER

Review everything in one place with FSRS spaced repetition. Create question-and-answer, cloze, image occlusion, and set-based cards. When answers belong together, one cloze card can hide them all. Each session starts with the cards that are due and adds up to 20 new ones a day, an optional daily reminder tells you when cards are waiting, and Undo takes back a rating you gave by mistake. To practice spelling, turn on Dictation in a note: CuaderNote reads each card aloud, you type the answer, and you see the correction letter by letter. On Apple Watch, you can see how many cards are due and review them from your wrist.

AI STUDY TOOLS

When you choose to use them, AI tools can suggest flashcards, summarize or explain selected text, translate passages beside the page, generate LaTeX, and extract text from images. An optional account is required only for these tools.

CuaderNote is built natively for iPhone, iPad, and Mac, with a companion app for Apple Watch. Your study library is local-first and can stay in sync across your devices with iCloud.

Write. Draw. Read. Remember.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 0.52.0 — 2026-10-23

Study on your Apple Watch, look up words as you read, and undo what you didn't mean to do.

• Study on your Apple Watch: see how many cards are due and review them from your wrist, with your iPhone nearby or not.
• Look Up in the reader: select a word or a short phrase in a PDF, book or web article and tap Look Up to open the dictionary. On Mac, right-click it instead. That menu also highlights text and sends it to AI.
• Take it back: undo the rating you gave a card by mistake, a highlight you made, recolored or deleted, or a sticky note you deleted. Press ⌘Z on Mac or tap Undo on iPhone and iPad.
• Two clozes, one card: hide two or more clozes in the same card, so it asks for both moons of Mars at once. Open a cloze's menu and choose Hide Together With.
• Daily study reminder: get a notification when cards are due, at the time you choose, and see how many are waiting on the app icon.
• Reviews first, new cards in moderation: study sessions start with the cards that are due and add up to 20 new cards a day. You can change the limit in Settings.
• Read your way: books and web articles have an Automatic theme, Sepia in light mode and Night in dark mode. Reading settings open in a small panel, so you see the text change as you pick.
• Translations next to the text: on Mac and iPad, translating a selection in a PDF, book or web article opens a panel right beside it, so the page stays readable.
• A new tour: choose how you like to study and try it with your own material. Replay it any time from Help, where the quick guides now walk you through numbered steps.
• A calmer look: highlights share one set of softer colors, the sidebar is quieter and note headings are smaller.

Also: highlights in EPUB books and web articles on iPhone and iPad go on the exact words you selected, a book or PDF that is still downloading from iCloud shows its progress when you open it, plus many smaller fixes on iPhone, iPad and Mac.

### 0.49.0 — 2026-10-15

NOTEBOOKS AND APPLE PENCIL
• Change the paper of a notebook page, say from grid to Cornell notes, and keep what you drew. You can also add the next page with a different paper. Both are in Actions › Page.
• Apple Pencil double tap follows your choice in Settings, in PDFs, notebooks and drawings.
• On Mac, ⌘Z and ⇧⌘Z undo and redo strokes in a notebook, and the mouse wheel and arrow keys turn pages.

EPUB
• Links inside a book take you to the section they point to on iPhone, iPad and Mac, and leave it in view below the toolbar.
• Footnotes open the right note, even when every chapter numbers its notes from 1, and the ↩ arrow takes you back to the text.
• On Mac, Page Up, Page Down and Space scroll one screen instead of jumping a whole chapter.

IPAD AND IPHONE
• With a hardware keyboard, menu shortcuts such as ⌘N, ⌘K and ⌘W work on iPad, and ⌘B, ⌘I and ⌘E format the selected text in a note.
• Find in Note without a keyboard: tap the magnifying glass on iPad, or choose it from the note's More menu on iPhone.
• On iPhone you can close one tab at a time and add sticky notes and mark areas on a PDF, and the text selection toolbar fits on screen.
• Typing --- inserts a divider.

FLASHCARDS
• Image occlusion cards show their image with their own mask in Flashcards, so you can tell them apart.
• Occlusion cards stay with their image when it moves inside a note. The occlusion editor asks before discarding changes and has Undo and Redo buttons.

NOTES AND LIBRARY
• Press Return in an empty quote to leave it, as with lists.
• Imports from a folder's + menu, and files dropped on a folder in the sidebar, go into that folder.
• Icon and Tags open next to the item you chose them for.
• On Mac, ⌘W closes the tab and ⇧⌘W closes the window.

READ ALOUD
• Read Aloud stops when you leave the document it is reading.
• The app no longer freezes when you tap Speak or open a note's Dictation menu.
• On iPad, the Read Aloud player sits above the Apple Pencil palette.

### 0.48.0 — 2026-10-12

This update brings everything new in versions 0.47 and 0.48.

DICTATION
• New dictation mode for spelling practice. CuaderNote reads each card aloud, you type what you hear, and it corrects you letter by letter and suggests a rating. Choose Make Dictation Cards on the lines you want, or turn a whole note into cards from its dictation badge.
• Regular cards have a listen button that reads them in the card's language.

ICLOUD
• The sidebar tells you when your library is only on this device, when files aren't uploading to iCloud Drive or when iCloud storage is full. Click or tap the label to see what to turn on.
• PDFs, EPUBs, web articles and images saved while iCloud Drive was off upload once you turn it back on.
• A document still downloading from iCloud opens on its own as soon as it arrives.

APPLE PENCIL AND NOTEBOOKS
• Canvases are now called notebooks, as in the online manual. The drawing you add inside a note from the / menu is called Drawing.
• Less Apple Pencil lag, and strokes that follow curves more closely.
• The fountain pen writes like a calligraphy nib held at 45 degrees, responds to everyday Apple Pencil pressure and keeps its shape at sharp corners, on screen and in exported PDFs.
• Pinching on iPad keeps what's under your fingers in place, and pinching on a Mac trackpad zooms around the pointer.
• Undo and redo in PDF ink follow the order you drew, on any page.
• Deleting a notebook page with drawings asks first, and each page keeps its own undo history.

READING AND STUDYING
• Listen works on iPhone and iPad in silent mode and pauses your music or podcast while it reads.
• Export PDF can include your sticky notes, which show up as notes in Preview and other PDF viewers.
• The PDF reader uses the full width of the screen on iPhone and iPad in landscape.
• Editing a card while you study keeps its formatting, links and images.
• On Mac, ⌘⇧F turns the selection into a cloze card, and the Shortcuts list in Settings shows the shortcuts that work on each device.
• You name new notes and notebooks in a dialog, then start typing right away.

AI AND PRIVACY
• Each AI action counts as one generation. Generate Flashcards, Summarize, Translate and Explain used to count twice.
• When you're not signed in, importing a PDF or EPUB no longer sends its file name to our server.

FASTER AND MORE RELIABLE
• Large libraries open and refresh much faster, moving items to the Trash is nearly instant, and the flashcard list no longer freezes the app.
• Autosave no longer clears your undo history.
• Fixed a bug that could remove images from notes.
• The Help Center now matches how the app really works.

### 0.46.0 — 2026-09-24

CuaderNote is now available in French on iPhone, iPad, and Mac.

Use notes, canvases, readers, and flashcards in French. Choose Français in language settings, then restart the app to apply the change.

French is also supported when saving content from other apps and following study sessions on the iPhone Lock Screen.

### 0.45.0 — 2026-09-24

Give your canvases a cover you can write or draw on. Choose one when creating a canvas, start without one, or add a cover to an existing canvas.

LaTeX formulas in imported web articles now display correctly, even offline. Highlights remain visible and tappable.
