Fundada en 1994, Cubanet es un medio de prensa digital sin fines de lucro, dedicado a promover la prensa alternativa en Cuba e informar sobre la realidad de la isla.

El apoyo de CubaNet al periodismo alternativo y la sociedad civil en Cuba se basa en nuestra concepción de que en cualquier tipo de régimen es la sociedad civil el instrumento más eficaz del individuo para ejercer sus derechos y hacer un mayor aporte a su comunidad, mientras busca un mayor bienestar personal. Los ciudadanos necesitan organizarse en instituciones sólidas para balancear el poder del gobierno, la institución social más estructurada.
