## What is Current?

Pay once. No subscription, ever.

Current turns your Apple Health data into a single daily recovery score — so you know whether to push hard or take it easy, every morning.

Most days you're guessing how recovered you are. Current does the math for you. It reads your sleep, heart rate variability, and resting heart rate, then distills them into one number from 0 to 100 — a clear read on how much energy you're working with today.

NO SUBSCRIPTION
Recovery tracking usually costs $200-plus a year, forever. Current is a one-time purchase. No subscription, no account, no upsells, no ads. Buy it once and it's yours.

NO EXTRA HARDWARE
If you have an Apple Watch, you already have everything you need. Current uses the data your watch already collects. Nothing else to buy, charge, or wear.

ON YOUR WRIST
A full Apple Watch app computes your score on the Watch itself, from the Watch's own Health data — no iPhone required. Swipe through your score and guidance, your daily insights, and the full breakdown. A complication keeps it on your watch face.

ONE SCORE, FULLY EXPLAINED
- A daily score from 0–100, with a simple tier: Fully Charged, Well Recovered, Moderate Energy, Low Battery, or Depleted
- Four sub-scores behind it — Sleep Duration, Sleep Efficiency, HRV, and Resting Heart Rate
- Every card shows exactly what it contributed: "HRV: 38 of 45 pts." No black box
- Open any sub-score for the exact inputs behind it
- Personalized daily insights drawn from last night's data

BUILT AROUND YOUR NORMAL
Current learns your personal HRV baseline — the 60-day median of your overnight readings — and scores each night relative to your own normal, not a generic average. You can fine-tune the baseline anytime.

SEE THE TREND, NOT JUST TODAY
- 7-day and 30-day rolling averages
- A History tab with your full trend chart
- Week in Review: your weekly pattern, best and worst nights, and specific recommendations for the week ahead
- Prefer the big picture? Weekly Mode hides the daily number and shows a once-a-week summary

STAY CONSISTENT
- Build a streak for every day you check in above your chosen threshold
- Milestone celebrations at 7, 14, and 30 days
- Optional daily reminder and proactive trend alerts (e.g. "HRV suppressed 4 days running")

ON YOUR HOME SCREEN
Home Screen and Lock Screen widgets put today's score one glance away.

SHARE IT
Generate a clean score card to share your progress.

COMPLETELY PRIVATE
Your health data never leaves your device. Everything is computed on-device. There's no account, no server, no tracking, and no ads — there is no backend that could leak your data, because there is no backend. Current requests read-only access to Health and never writes to it.

Current is for general wellness and informational purposes only. It is not a medical device and does not diagnose, treat, or prevent any condition. An Apple Watch is recommended for sleep and HRV data.

### 5/5 — My new favorite app

*2026-07-07*

I’ve tried quite a few recovery and readiness apps over the years, and this one has quickly become my favorite. The interface is clean, easy to understand, and gives me the information I actually care about without overwhelming me with unnecessary data.

What really stands out is how actionable the insights are. Instead of just throwing numbers at you, the app helps you understand what those numbers mean and how they relate to your recovery and overall readiness. It’s become part of my daily routine, and I’ve found myself making smarter decisions about training, recovery, and even sleep because of it.

The app is fast, well-designed, and integrates seamlessly with my Apple Watch and Apple Health data. It’s obvious the developer put a lot of thought into both the science and the user experience.

If you’re looking for a recovery app that is intuitive, accurate, and genuinely useful, I highly recommend giving this one a try. It’s one of those rare apps that actually delivers on what it promises.

## Frequently asked questions about Current

### What is Current's recovery score based on?

Current's recovery score is derived from your Apple Health data, specifically analyzing your sleep duration, sleep efficiency, heart rate variability (HRV), and resting heart rate. It then distills this information into a single score from 0 to 100.

### Does Current require a subscription?

No, Current is a one-time purchase and does not have any subscriptions, recurring fees, or in-app upsells. You buy it once and own it permanently.

### Do I need extra hardware to use Current?

No additional hardware is required if you have an Apple Watch. Current utilizes the data your Apple Watch already collects, meaning you don't need to buy, charge, or wear anything extra.

### How does Current ensure data privacy?

Current is completely private and computes all data on-device. Your health data never leaves your device, and there is no account, server, or tracking involved, eliminating any risk of data leaks.

### Can I use Current without my iPhone?

Yes, the full Current app is available on Apple Watch and computes your score directly from the Watch's Health data. You can view your score, guidance, and insights on your wrist without needing your iPhone.

### How often is Current updated?

The latest version of Current is 2.1, and it was last updated on August 4, 2026. Updates typically focus on improving features, performance, and data analysis accuracy.

### What is the age rating for Current?

### Does Current have ads?

No, Current is completely ad-free. The developers have explicitly stated that there are no ads within the application.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 2.2 — 2026-08-10

How do you feel today?

Daily check-in
Current now asks how you're feeling — drained, sluggish, solid, or energized — and tells you when your answer and your body data disagree.

That disagreement is the point. If you feel great but your HRV is well below baseline, you'll hear about it, because that gap often shows up a day or two before people notice they're getting sick. And if you feel terrible while your recovery signals look completely normal, you'll hear that too — it's usually sleep debt or stress rather than anything physical.

Your answer never changes your score. It can't: the whole value of an objective number is that it doesn't care how you feel. That's exactly why the two can disagree, and why the disagreement is worth knowing about.

Most days the two agree and Current says nothing. That's intentional.

More accurate sleep efficiency
Some sleep sources don't report time spent awake at all. Current used to read that as a flawless night and score it accordingly. It now recognizes when the information simply isn't there and leaves that part of your score out, rather than guessing. If your sleep comes from something other than an Apple Watch, your score may shift slightly — it's more honest now.

Also fixed
Some people were getting two daily reminders each morning, one of them showing an out-of-date score. Now there's just one, and it always shows today's score. Week in Review could also describe an old tagged pattern — alcohol from months back, say — as something currently affecting you. It now says clearly how recent the pattern is.

As always: a one-time purchase, no subscription, and every byte of this computed on your own device.

### 2.1 — 2026-08-04

Sleep gets serious.

Sleep consistency
Current now tracks when you sleep, not just how long. It measures how steady your sleep timing is from night to night and shows the variation in plain minutes. This isn't a soft metric: sleep regularity independently predicts health outcomes at least as strongly as sleep duration does — and unlike sleep stages, it's something your watch measures reliably.

Sleep debt
See your running shortfall against a 7-hour night across the last two weeks. Oversleeping on the weekend doesn't cancel it out, because physiologically it doesn't. When the shortfall gets meaningful, it shows up in your daily insights too.

Both live in the Sleep Duration breakdown on your Today screen — tap the card to open it.

Light mode
Current now has a light theme. Choose Light, Dark, or System in Settings — your widgets and shared score cards follow along.

Also fixed
The daily reminder could show the previous day's score. It now only ever shows the score for the day it arrives.

As always: a one-time purchase, no subscription, and every byte of this computed on your own device.

### 2.0 — 2026-07-06

Current 2.0 is our biggest update yet — and it's free for everyone who already bought the app.

Apple Watch app
Your recovery score now lives on your wrist. Current computes your score right on the Watch from your own Health data — raise your wrist for the number, swipe for your top insight, and add a complication to any watch face. It refreshes overnight, so your score is waiting for you in the morning. Turn on the optional morning buzz to feel it land.

Ask Siri
"What's my recovery score?" — Siri answers instantly, even with the app closed. Add it to your Shortcuts and routines.

Tag your days, find your patterns
Mark what affected a day — alcohol, travel, stress, a late meal, a late workout — and Week in Review shows you how each one actually moves your recovery, like "After alcohol: HRV −18% vs your norm." All computed on your device; nothing leaves your phone.

Early illness signals
An elevated overnight wrist temperature (Apple Watch Series 8 and later) now flags a possible early sign of illness, alongside the existing HRV and resting-heart-rate signals.

90 days of history
See the longer arc of your recovery, with the key insight behind each day right in the list.

Score in your morning reminder
Your daily reminder now shows the score itself — "Recovery: 82 — Well Recovered" — so you get the number at a glance.

Plus: more reliable iCloud sync across your devices, a smarter Smart Stack that surfaces your score in the morning, and assorted fixes and polish.

Still a one-time purchase. Still no subscription. Still your data, on your device.

### 1.7 — 2026-06-29

Tap any sub-score card to see how much that signal contributed to your recovery total — and the HRV card now shows a 7-day trend sparkline so you can see at a glance whether your nervous system is recovering or accumulating fatigue.

Several accuracy improvements are also included:
• Resting heart rate now scores on its own even if your watch didn't capture an overnight HRV reading — so you're no longer silently missing 20% of your score on those nights
• The 7-day and 30-day averages now reflect only nights with real data; days when your watch wasn't worn no longer pull the average toward the middle
• Deep sleep insights no longer appear for devices that don't track sleep stages — a "0%" reading previously looked like a problem when it just meant the data wasn't available

### 1.6 — 2026-06-18

Updated scoring algorithm. Removes specific scoring related to sleep stages. They are inconsistent across devices, and the HRV reflects if the previous night's sleep quality.
